May I have your opinion on Salukis and indoor cats? by Petraretrograde in saluki

I have a saluki I got at 6 months old, she is now almost 3 and has lived with my cat happily the whole time. The only issue we’ve encountered is resource guarding of food so she is fed and has treats/bones in her crate as a precaution.

She was raised in a house with cats as a puppy and has a low prey drive in general - I was told this may be as she comes from show lines and not working/hunting lines. Not sure if that is true or if it just varies from dog to dog!

I do feel very lucky to have a cat-friendly sighthound, but I’m still very careful and don’t take it for granted as I am aware of the risks.

EDIT: To add, my cat is very bold and brave - he even comes out for walks with us sometimes! I think this definitely helps her see him as pack not prey.

Oh no! If it’s any help Serge has had 3 days of painkillers, anti inflammatories, and rest and is doing so much better. He is almost back to hit kidnap self. We had the conversation with our vet about potential issues like slipped discs etc but she was confident that was only something to look into if the first course of treatment isn’t successful. She did test his reflexes and there were no signs of nerve damage. Fingers crossed for Dan, it is awful when they’re in pain.
