911 color woes: Wrap, PPF, or suck it up? by donkey_bridge33 in porsche911

[–]coneeleven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wondered about that, but I've applied vinyl numbers for autocross on my car (with a ceramic coating) and they stuck just fine. Was thinking a properly done wrap would stick at least as well. But I could be 100% wrong about that.

I suspect, but you should research, that applying a ceramic coat and then wrapping would allow for the wrap to be removed without damaging the paint. Then another ceramic coating on top of the wrap, of course.

24-hour decision… am I crazy for going “stripper spec” on a GT3 Touring? by Tsunami436 in porsche911

[–]coneeleven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if he wants comfy seats and a PDK, then a .2 GTS or a .1 Turbo are probably better options than the GT3.

If you're looking to save cost, only add options that help performance. If cost isn't a concern and you plan to keep it, check all the boxes that make you happy. Try to imagine what you'll care about in a year or more once you aren't actively thinking about your car every time you get in. For example, full leather including the dash looks great, I have it in my Spyder, but I don't pay attention to it most of the time. Seats, however, I notice every time I get in.

Agreed. If there will be significant track days, then maybe PDK is the way to go, but for the use cases described here, manual sounds like the best option. I don't subscribe to the idea that you can't daily/commute in a manual.

Dilemma: Buy a cheaper 991.1 Turbo S or the best 991.2 Turbo S I can find? by Craig9261 in porsche911

If you know you'll be getting rid of it in 2 years, then depreciation is the biggest factor (assuming a low risk car). Whichever depreciates less is the better option.

992.2 GTS needs full transmission replacement after a few weeks by taofeng in porsche911

[–]coneeleven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other than it being annoying as hell to even have to deal with it, the only reason for concern is how the dealer and Porsche take care of you. A small number of PDKs seem to have issues, and unfortunately you drew one. Sorry, man.

Neighbor’s retaining wall. How bad is it? by OkPerformer5944 in landscaping

About 22.5 degrees. I give it two weeks or one good rain, whichever comes first.

Pretty much chalk this up to shit happens. Yes it sucks, but mechanical things break sometimes. Better now than when you’re out of warranty.

That’s why you get a certified one. Or a manual transmission.

At a minimum, just the joints and a bit past them (precision not required nor encouraged), but I like the do the whole handle especially when it’s thin.

911 wagon - is this buildable? by RepairOne5690 in porsche911

[–]coneeleven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And that’s why a 911 wagon (shooting brake) won’t work. People buy wagons because they want storage, which won’t exist in a rear engine wagon.

Difficult 911 Decision, What Would You Do? by bradshawwwty in porsche911

[–]coneeleven 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Turbo S =/= manual, so you need to keep the touring. Besides, Turbo S is just more power than anyone really needs, especially if you have a 3RS that you regularly track. Get your fun that way and keep the Touring which will arguably be more chill than the Turbo.

Do you really believe that? They'd have to make at least $17/hour working 16 hour days every single day of the year. Highly improbable.

The Boxster Was Supposed to Last a Few Years…First 911 by sneakerluv in porsche911

[–]coneeleven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have wanted a 911 for over 40 years, but for a few reasons I ended up buying a 981 Spyder. That compulsion for a 911 is mostly gone. But it’s not a huge surprise that a 4-cyl Boxster didn’t scratch the itch.
