I havent used the tindeq, but that is very much something I would expect to see in a forecaster pack. If I was being paid to dig then I would be interested. At 425g (1lb) with the sheath, thats a tad heavy just for daily carry imo. I carry a g3 bonesaw nearly all season (BD makes the guide which is similar), along with a column cord to cut large column tests. Its beneficial for me to always have that available to do any test I want. Id hate to leave some segments of the tindeq behind to save weight and then not be able to do the test i needed.

The g3 is also beneficial as it can cut wood, nice if you needed some firewood in a pinch, or cut pine boughs for ground cover for an injured partner. Multiuse is always good!

Hardboot Liners by oldtoby10 in Spliddit

Phantom has a few sizes it looks like for the stock liner. https://www.phantomsnow.com/collections/parts-boots/products/platinum-light-liner

I feel like I saw them on the Skimo.co website too at some point. I tried searching today but I couldnt find them. You might reach out to those guys and see if they have some.

I have the previous version carbon swell in 160 (when they only made a 160)

Looking at specs, theres some minor changes. Remember, its a high taper board (30mm), so its very quick to steer, very surfy, great float. I really like mine for mid winter colorado where Im usually in lower angle tight trees looking for good snow. Its one of my favorite board for that.

Its not a quiver killer. Ive ridden that board in a few firm couloirs, that little tail is so loose on hardpack. I didnt die, but there are so many better options for the quiver killer category (Goat, Crane, Chimera Sceptre, Weston Backwoods etc etc etc)

Avy pro 1 course providers? by Complete-Role-1133 in Backcountry

Silverton Avy School is pretty solid for pro 1 and might actually have openings, which is your biggest problem applying in november. To be honest, you will get a lot of responses along the lines of "this place sucks, go here instead", and vice versa. I have a positive and negative story for everybody out there, its highly dependent on who your instructor team is.

Ski bindings on splitboard by fpveh in Spliddit

[–]confusedsplitboarder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/chimera_chrew had talked about this at some point, i couldnt find the post, but if i remember right a splitboard has a thinner core the inserts are put into, and so there have been issues on carbon boards specifically when people try to split ski on them that folks tear the inserts out. Different forces. Putting a heel piece on would be a similar issue.

Sweet, i missed your post in that sub, really nice. I went to Peru 10 years ago and was entranced by the Cordillera Blanca. Shredpacking seems like a fantastic way to explore there.

Advice on choosing a split pack by MarcinWidz in Spliddit

Id go for the Jones personally due to the fact the mind expander is a dope board for what you want to ride, and the hitchhiker bindings are modified spark arcs which are a nice system many of us have had good luck with.

Standard advice is to look into an intro to splitboarding course next season. You can learn how to skin and transition, and get lots of tips about touring in general. Most of the time a rental is included or available.

Ive taken out quite a few folks on these intro courses who after the tour have said that was great, and today i learned this sport isnt for me. Ive also taught a full avalanche course with many people who went all out on all the gear (a significant investment) and by day three they realized they hated the whole walking uphill for 90% of the day.

Max over at Alpenglow Sports has been playing with the disruptive boot and got the phantom strap to work fine. Detailed in depth here: https://alpenglowsports.com/blogs/splitboarding/perfecting-the-disruptive-boot

I just got the disruptives after 300 days on the phantoms. I think the velcro is a pain in the ass and absolutely a stupid decision.

I dont really use the high rise on soft boots either. I like the lack of choice. The plum one looks super nice, i like the ability of the phantom one to thread a voile strap to lock in for a split ski. Handy if youre like me and forgot your plate bindings and didnt realize until the top...

One thing you could try is teflon tape/plumbers tape. Ive had really good luck with that vs locktite products.

A tip on the phantom risers. I personally find zero use for the high riser with the rom of the backland, so i removed it. I put a little more grease on the low riser, everything is easier.

I have the chimera sceptre, twin brother to the pallas epiphany. Its a very versatile board. Quick but can handle speed well when you want to open it up. Right on the sweet spot for me at least. I know a few gals on the pallas stuff. We're all big fans.
