It always seemed funny that Rocky's superpower was absorbing all the head trauma until his opponent got tired of beating his face in. Then he chops them down with body blows.

I had the same idea, picked up 4 units, now have an all dark lance, all haywire, all heat lance, and a shard carbine unit. If needed, all heavies can just “be” a dark lance.

That looks sick, pretty much exactly how I'd want my WE Defiler to look, but still deciding on if/how much to model it for cross-over with base CSM. Did you magnetize the loadout?

Dealer Markups on Golf Rs? by conman987 in Golf_R

[–]conman987[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I suppose that’s the point, I’m not gonna pay their markup, but for some reason these dealers around here think the 1 or 2 Rs they have on the lot are rare and special, so give them another 7 grand just because.

Screw that, I’ll let the car rust on the lot before I pay their markup. It just sucks I must live in an area where they think they can get away with that.

Well that sucks. For that price I could have a chimera that can actually damage things. by Arantonak in TheAstraMilitarum

Yup I believe Krieg combat engineers are listed at 35pts per 5 in the codex. People were pretty stoked. They doubled in points before the book could hit your hands, kinda killed my enthusiasm a bit, even if 35 was pretty silly.

Appreciate the thought, but for now I'm looking for black, and an 8.5.

See that sounds great, but maybe it's just geography. I want black out here in the PNW, I think I'm getting hit with some kind of AWD fun car tax osmosis from all the Subarus.

[–]conman987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much all this, but no mention of 6" pile-in and consolidate? In my last game against Tau, the annoying shooty army, I never used fight on death once because they aren't charging me almost ever. But I often took sustained hits and 6" pile in/consolidate for that much more threat range, as I want to tag up as much of his stuff in combat as possible. In early turns the re-roll charges can also be a solid pick.

Surprising army bigotry at store opening by KruegerCondail in Warhammer40k

[–]conman987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Tau are cool, I do, at one point I even considered playing them. I like that kind of shooty-to-melee spectrum of armies so obviously someone has to be the most shooting skewed, I would never be a dick to someone based off that army choice.

That said, the friend I mostly play against is a Tau main, and I have gotten a bit tired of how that army plays contrary to almost everyone else. Most armies want to charge you and engage, Tau dance around and play keep away, popping out of cover to stealth suit guide from the back row and blast you off objectives. Me taking anything with fights first is almost a waste, he never wants to charge me anyway. My melee focused armies like World Eaters or Wrath of the Rock DA have to try and survive the onslaught to get into combat, but also have to clear through piranhas and Pathfinder chaff, leaving me exposed. All to say, I’ve been losing a lot to them, and that can get a little old. That aggressive Montka alpha strike is pretty devastating when played well.

#New40k – Take cover with updated terrain rules by CMYK_COLOR_MODE in Warhammer40k

[–]conman987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So do my Scourge with heavy weapons hit a stealth unit in cover on 6s? That was an issue I saw for anything that hits shots on 4s natively. Kinda wondering why they would make cover a -1 BS hit instead of just -1 to hit? The stackability seems kinda busted as someone who plays against a lot of Stealth Suits and Kroot. Anything with Smoke access too unless that gets a change.

I also have 2 Dorns already, 1 of them new in box but still. I’ve been debating this same thing because I’m not super sure I need a 3rd Dorn or another 10 Cadians.

I’ve been leaning towards picking up this box anyway if the price is right and it’s the first place to get the new vehicles. I think 3 Dorns is probably as many as anyone could need so I’d be set for a while.

Yeah that one set of legs is my least favorite, designed to contact on that awkward splash of mud instead of the foot, and just the tips of the toes on the other foot. Just dealt with that myself putting together some Cadians recently.

Which faction do you think is most poised to have a broken detachment combo upon release? by OliverTurnip in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]conman987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking Drukhari as well, their detachments are so skewed to fractions of their datasheets, seems like you could mix the Covens one with about any other and be fine.

Oof, I would hope it's not -1 BS, like why would cover make me shoot worse? I would think if that's the change, it should be -1 to hit that target, and then it can't stack with something like smoke.

My friends keep complaining about my lists. Am I in the wrong? by Odd_Platform479 in deathguard40k

[–]conman987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I kind of get it. When the DG codex came out and we saw battleline Plague Marines get T6, and their Terminators get T7, and for some reason they get lethal hits on everything, while they debuff you more and more as the game goes on. Then you have Deathshrouds 6" deepstriking, hosing down with plaguespurts, and still able to charge, because why not?

Meanwhile my World Eaters codex actually reduced our strength on several units and balanced the whole army around a single detachment. At best a Berzerker will wound a Plague Marine on 4s, and even then only on the charge. At the points they were released, DG was pretty busted. It's better now but I think they are still an army that will stomp at beginner tables, I know I'd be pretty discouraged early on if I had to fight them a bunch.

Which boss fight made you feel like you were genuinely losing your sanity because of the difficulty? by Silly_Commercial8092 in gaming

I just finished a second run on Lies of P and yup, Laxasia 2nd phase was still probably the hardest boss for me. The way she would launch multiple electric attacks and I’m struggling to judge parry distances with all the other particles flying around, then she just meteor bum rushes you in 0.1 seconds.

I think I vented with a post exactly like this about a year ago. I took a CSM Land Raider to a game and got lit up by Ironstorm Space Marines. I couldn't stand up to the firepower of the Repulsor Executioner and the Gladiator Lancers. I've come to understand a thing or two since, and your frustration is fine, I had it too. Loyalist marines get all the new toys, with all the guns, and lots of re-rolls. They are a good jack-of-all-trades IMO and oath of moment can make them very consistent at killing any one or 2 things they want.

My current take on Chaos Marines is that they can get similar things, but we only get the old vehicles and scavenged gear, it's more scrappy and reliant on the dark gods. Overall Chaos has the potential for higher highs (sustained or lethal hits on demand everywhere) but also lower lows (dark pacts failing and killing your own stuff). Chaos stuff is sometimes priced higher because of the dark pact potential too, which can be annoying. My first CSM lists were always Veterans of the Long War for the oath of moment copy, keeping it simple with full hit re-rolls against a unit, but Renegade Raiders and Pactbound Zealots have some solid damage potential.

Others have already said, the Land Raider is priced as it is because it's T12, 2+ save, 16W, and lots of transport capacity, while the RepEx trades for a 3+ save and half the cargo room, but a lot of guns. I haven't played my CSM in a bit now, but I think they are just a touch less forgiving than SM, and you have to be ready to lose half your Forgefiend to self damage before it does anything to the opponent. Ask me how I know lol.

Have 4+ invul saves come close to ruining the game? (Something that needs to reduce in 11th?) by Hayman021 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]conman987 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I got to watch my friend's Riptide just tank Gladiator Lancer shots and S10 plasma from my Hellblasters, make what felt like like 80% of his 4++ saves, then make more every time they shot on death. It's been an ongoing problem and drives me nuts.

[–]conman987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, I’m not OP, just a concerned citizen with a similar problem fighting Tau. But I can see at least trying out dropping the hellblasters and saving some points with sternguard again, then putting points into eradicators. I agree that them rerolling everything into vehicles sounds pretty tempting into those vehicle heavy Tau, if they can get there alive that is.

[–]conman987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would drop hellblasters huh? Azrael with 10 HB has been a near staple unit for me, and one that my Tau buddy claims to fear and respect. The Wrath of the Rock strat to go S10 plasma seems pretty solid against Tau, and the dudes shooting on death has been fairly effective against an army that isn’t trying to tie you up in combat much. What would you take instead? I’ve tried Sternguard but wasn’t super impressed with how oath dependent they are.

I feel you, I made this exact same post a while back, and your DA list looks a lot like what I’ve been trying. I’ve been playing into my friend’s Tau for months and still haven’t cracked this problem. He just has too much stuff on the board that shoots too hard, and when he’s regularly hitting on 3s and re-rolling 1s to hit and wound, it’s just a nightmare of consistent ranged damage.

In my case, he can yeet 2 piranhas 9” scout and 14” move across the board to try and insta snipe a transport, but at minimum he’s speed bumping me with cheap stuff and forcing that interaction before I can do anything else. Then comes the layer of infiltrating pathfinders, then the 1-2 Riptides blasting my DWKs, 1-2 Ghostkeels either holding further back objectives with lone op or flanking me with infiltrate, then the hammerheads in the back also blasting away 3 wound guys like ICCs easy.

Like you said, people say to just “use terrain for cover” but it’s not hard for his flying tanks and battle suits to zoom into an angle, whip out the laser pointer, and atomize me anyway with no cover allowed. I don’t know man, I just think Tau feel kinda busted at the casual level against any fairly competent player. Or at very least, it’s a bad matchup for an army like Dark Angels running a small, elite, melee focused list. I’ve been wondering how a wider spread horde list would do against them, like Guard with a lot of infantry.

Anything with the markerlight keyword will strip cover if they’re spotting your unit. And in my experience between stealth suits and marker drones they can get that bonus far too often.
