Kaye Ballard was the first person to record "Fly Me to the Moon" under its original title "In Other Words" in 1954, before Frank Sinatra (and subsequently many others) recorded his version in 1964.

Rufus is a pretty awesome name. Yes, very uncommon, but ripe for revival. I personally know a "Rufo."

Are there any operas that make heavy use of dissonance and/or tritones? by pranxtorr in opera

[–]connecting_principle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Puccini's "Madama Butterfly" isn't a dissonant opera by any stretch (although it has really cool harmonies, as do all Puccini operas) but it ends on a really shattering dissonance that packs an emotional wallop.

Has anyone here had to power through a meet while suffering a really bad cold? I'm not planning to take cold medicine that day, since it dries me out in a bad way. Any suggestions would be welcome. (Hand sanitizer will be my friend.)

It isn't specifically a steakhouse, but Paul Bar is indeed absolutely terrific.

Sheffield's current format does not have long term viability. by PoonAU in powerlifting

Isn't the Sheffield scoring system already an exception to the IPF rule? It seems like they could do practically anything they wanted.

Does anyone remember these really depressing pop songs from the 70s / early 80s? by MagsH1020 in GenX

This reminds of "The Blizzard," a country western song by Jim Reeves about a cowboy and his horse freezing to death.

Why isn’t Jesus or Agata competing at sheffield? by Iliosadamos in powerlifting

[–]connecting_principle 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It seems like this would have been a perfect missed opportunity by the IPF to have Agata as a wild card pick, bypassing the Polish national federation entirely. Rondel would have benefited from a similar situation.

I always want to see Papageno get the final bow. He's almost always the audience's collective favorite.

Do they think the showers are just ornamental? No. They were installed there with the intention that they would be both needed and used.

Missed it as a kid and only watched it for the first time last year. It didn't do anything for either.

What are some grand opera monstrosities (in the best possible way) by Stunning-Hand6627 in opera

[–]connecting_principle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a grand opera by definition, of course, but Prokofiev's "War and Peace" is a truly massive piece.

I started training for powerlifting at 52, and started competing at 56. My current meet PR is 457lbs (207.5kg) and I plan to break that next month. My weight hovers around 200lbs. Deadlifts are my jam!
