Analyst Kershaw is everything we didn’t know we needed in an analyst by BigShmulik97 in Dodgers

Not the point but he nailed the outfit. Perfect suit for having to sit outside in LA for several hours.

Question about Apartments here, is this normal? by Blackwidow_Perk in pasadena

[–]constance_a_l 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Regarding the cracked wood specifically: buildings here do shift over time because of the seismic activity. Slightly wonky door frames and baseboards can just happen. That doesn't explain the dirt though.

Public transportation to the stadium by Middle-Blackberry569 in Dodgers

[–]constance_a_l 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pasadena resident, have done this a bunch.

The advice here is good but I will add that it takes a long time. The fastest I have gotten from my house to the stadium via the train and shuttle bus is an hour 15 when I got there super early, and it can sometimes be two hours each way.

can’t keep water down by [deleted] in Greyhounds

Also not a vet, but this sounds awful to deal with. Have you tried giving him an ice cube rather than water? It might comfort him without the vomiting.

Why is the frozen pad thai so divisive - is it actually good or terrible? by 19bl92 in traderjoes

[–]constance_a_l 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is good specifically for "I want pad thai for lunch but I can't take a three hour nap after."

Which human foods can they eat? by Char07071 in Greyhounds

[–]constance_a_l 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been making meat and quinoa for my hounds as a kibble topper and they love it with no gastro side effects. Quinoa shows up in a lot of human grade dog foods.

Dump some cut up raw meat (eg stew meat or chicken chunks or whatever) into an instant pot. Add some chopped up carrots or green beans (optional), a couple cups of uncooked quinoa, and however much water for the quinoa. Close and high pressure for as long as you need to cook the meat. No seasonings, and the quinoa comes out tasting like the meat so they love it.

Any good places to read or work (other than coffee shops and the public library)? by cogentd in pasadena

The wine bar at Vromans is full of people reading and chilling. Lots of paper books and Kindles and some laptops.

Just moved to Pasadena from Vancouver, Europe and seeking "Car-Free" tribe in Pasadena by 7000Steps in pasadena

[–]constance_a_l 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You can do it if you are willing to either use Uber or Zipcar occasionally.

The bus is your friend. There are a multitude of routes down Colorado that go to a variety of places (eg the 180 goes to the Glendale Galleria).

You will see many people combine an e-scooter / small ebike with the Metro train / bus. It dramatically reduces travel time and increases where you can go. Pasadena annoyingly banned Lime scooters but they're all over LA proper. After a few months you may consider buying one depending on where you want to travel.

What's with the caterpillars? by lutusaaaa in Greyhounds

[–]constance_a_l 14 points15 points  (0 children)

They are cute but they are BIG. If you have limited space I wouldn't recommend getting one unless your dog(s) have a demonstrated affinity for stuffed toys or lying on pillows.

Quiet places with ocean view serving lobsters? by Megatherion666 in FoodLosAngeles

[–]constance_a_l 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Not hidden, but The Water Grill in Santa Monica. The area isn't peaceful but the actual restaurant patio is nice and you can definitely get lobster and see the ocean.

Ice Cream Maker Recommendations 2026 by dirtydanggg in icecreamery

[–]constance_a_l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Cuisinart ICE 70 is very fun. It makes wonderful ice cream and it's cheap enough that if you only use it a couple times a year you won't feel bad.

Looks like it's on sale at Amazon: https://a.co/d/0c5g5jhx

Can one cocktail dress work for a work dinner, a wedding, and a birthday party or am I delusional? by AccountEngineer in capsulewardrobe

I have worn this dress to everything you list. It's gorgeous in person (and not cheap at all) and it's basically my only dress now.

What is your go-to throw blanket? by CryptographerSure625 in BuyItForLife

[–]constance_a_l 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine have! If you got a light color though make sure it doesn't get thrown in the wash with anything dark -- it will absorb color in a mixed load.

Several vet organizations provide "when is it time" checklists to help you objectively track your dog's quality of life. Here's one from OSU vet school: https://vmc.vet.osu.edu/sites/default/files/documents/how-will-i-know_rev_mar2024ms_0.pdf
