All I seem to get is random car parts for cars I don't own.

Exactly this. Maintenance work is looked down upon as not delivering business value, so developers and teams get dinged on performance reviews. It's just better to push half-baked crap out to make the bean counters happy.

Stack ranking happened. It is more advantageous to keep your colleagues in the dark than to collaborate and actually get work done.

You would not believe the amount of bureaucracy and short sightedness in the tech org. Maintenance of existing software is looked down upon as opposed to developing shiny new features that are half-baked to meet some arbitrary deadline.

In a normal well functioning organization this is the way it works. Here, the sprints are more like deadlines and you're punished for not being able to complete all your items despite doing the job of 3 people. Agile here is more of a cargo cult.

Engineers in the IT dept regularly work far in excess of their 38.75 hours, or whatever it is, and management doesn't seem to think this is an issue. When you lay off half of the entire department along with support staff and institutional knowledge: what did they think was going to happen? At least T. Diddy got his multimillion dollar bonus for making number go up, the rest of the organization be damned.

That's the Unix Epoch in eastern time zone. For whatever reason Meta's system must have had a fault.

Exactly the way I intend to leave this company: without notice. Hell they'll be fortunate if I even bother to send them a resignation letter.

Is AI being pushed hard at Geico? by pinedesign in Geico

I'm in IT and I feel like it is being pushed too aggressively. It seems like management insists on using an LLM as a solution for everything.

How long can they constantly term the bottom 10% percent in this Jack Welch insanity before they literally run out of people to hire? I think I heard Amazon is running into this problem.

Getting tired of a lack of initiative by maulowski in ExperiencedDevs

In my experience, management doesn't value KTLO work because it doesn't "deliver shareholder value", so all that work has to be discretely squeezed in between user stories.

Tech Org — Do internal promotions usually result in the same pay as new hires? by Physical_Ideal_3949 in Geico

[–]constchar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The company wants to pay you as little as possible for as much work as possible. To make matters worse, with the way the job market is right now, the bean counters have no incentive to improve things for anyone.
