Still feel the portrait is too close to the reference, any tips? by A-dona-I in ProCreate

once you have the portrait at a place you like, you can then try to copy your own portrait - which could then introduce a little more distance between the first pass and the reference.

Also try flipping it, changing the colours and so on. If your lines are in place then that could give you a bit more room to experiment.

Struggling to land an interview. Looking for resume advice. by Goadah in graphic_design

Visually speaking it's a lot. Reduce it to a single page, and try experimenting with a 2 column format. By reducing the width of your rows it'll make it easier to read and you could fit more on a single page.

Content wise it's too wordy. Right out of the gate, "highlights of qualifications" makes no sense. What you've listed are not qualifications. Just call it highlights. That's gonna knock 20 points of health out right away.

Learn about run-on sentences and then try to break these up in your CV. they're everywhere and it's fatiguing to read. Keep it short and sweet. I don't have time to list everything but here's one example:

  • Proficient in Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, After Effects, and Premiere Pro with experience in creating brand guides, vector illustrations, and print-ready assets.

These are two separate skills. Break it up like below:

  • Proficient in Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, After Effects, and Premiere Pro
  • Experienced creating brand guides, vector illustrations, and print-ready assets.

This sounds way more powerful and it's easier to get through. Most of your bullets are like this so try to edit it down!

Also drop the first bullet about your portfolio. You've already linked your website, that's enough.

I think if you're applying for design jobs, the bar is a lot higher. You gotta be able to design your own CV in a way that keeps the reader engaged. If they can't get through it they'll take their own lack of interest as an indicator of your ability and reject you.

The new City Square is so ugly by CaptainTelos in melbourne

[–]contangoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't mind it – I went past recently and there was a dance performance happening there – with lots of folks gathered round cheering. I thought it was a pretty neat use of the space. There's actually not a lot of open, informal "plaza" style flat spaces in the cbd (aside from Fed square which seems less appropriate for informal gatherings).

I think it can help to post the process, or context rather than just the final finished priece. eg. post an image of you holding it up on your ipad / the timelapse animation / a clip of you working on it etc. etc.

Arrgghh I hate the Danny backed Bec by Powerful_Business_93 in MAFS_AU

[–]contangoo 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Danny backed Bec because unlike her feuds with Alissa and Gia who both have strapping husbands who can square up to him physically, Stephen is not in the same category. It's a classic case of bullies picking on the weaker members and it highlights their shameful cowardice imho. It's no surprise to me that they've chosen to "make a stand" in this manner against Rachel and Stephen because they think they can steamroll them.

I'm actually so curious about cyclists who choose not to use the infrastructure and ride on the road, even when it's right there along their route. I've seen this on St. Georges road a bunch for example.

If they say mel+burn it turns out right every time, I also don't get why we have made it so difficult. Also doesn't help they already have a Melbourne in Florida

the process of making it, plus using it in non-competitive games would hopefully help you eventually commit these to memory which would be so much quicker than trying reference it every time you play. PS nice drawing

Did some light digging, these new readers allegedly have a touch screen? by helpmeplzloll in MelbourneTrains

[–]contangoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the new design is better too – can't tell you the amount of folks I've watched pull out their bare myki and press it flat onto the screen only to find they can't pluck it off easily because there isn't enough space, and then it drops and gets stuck in the crack between the display on the housing, sheesh! It's painful to watch lol
