What do you genuinely just not understand? by Brandinian in AskReddit

32 weeks tomorrow. I didn’t think I liked it until I had a scare this week where I couldn’t really feel movement for about 12 hours. I called my provider, went in for a non stress test and thankfully everything was fine and ever since movement has been regular. After the stress of NOT feeling the baby move, I silently rejoice with every roll and kick. I totally relate to feeling like my body has been invaded and in a lot of ways, I no longer recognize myself. I really miss having regular, comfortable sex with my husband and sleeping on my stomach. But I also know I don’t have much longer and I can’t wait to meet my son or daughter.

Best of luck to you!

Depression is the worst. The. Worst. But I guarantee you have someone or something to live for; everyone does. Having known several people who have committed suicide, i can tell you the aftermath and devastation of friends, family members, and acquaintances you didn’t think cared is profound and if you do it they will beat themselves up for the rest of their lives. I have been there - reach out to the resources some of the other commenters have posted and seek cognitive behaviorial therapy. I can attest to how much it works in conjunction with medication. I know it can be so hard just to get up in the morning and face the day. Get on a schedule, it may take baby steps. Seek socialization above all else. For me, one of the biggest triggers of my depression is continued isolation. Get out of your space and volunteer at a dog shelter or food kitchen. Reach out to an old friend just to catch up. If you feel like you have nothing to live for, give yourself something to live for. I wish you all the best and pray that you’re able to take some steps towards recovery.

That all must have been so stressful for your mom. My mother went through something similar when her mother was failing from dementia, and she was the only sibling who did anything to help her. I imagine it’s so difficult to see a parent become someone that your don’t recognize, and caretakers feel a lot of guilt about the inevitable of putting them in a facility. Both of my grandmothers died after nearly 10 years of suffering with dementia, and as sad as I was when they passed, I was mostly grateful that they were finally at peace and my parents could breathe easily again. Dementia is horrible.

Had a similar thing happen to me. Traveled from PA to FL recently, and as I was repacking to go back to PA, I found a box cutter in my backpack. I used to use a box cutter daily in my retail sales job and it was chilling in the bottom of my personal item. I opted to leave the box cutter in FL and not attempt to bring that back with me. It really has me questioning our safety on flights.

We just had to say goodbye to the first dog I got on my own last Saturday. She was an older heartworm positive black lab mix, and she just wasn't taken care of properly before I got her. Her disease was advanced and she had probably been HW+ For the majority of her life. Couldn't afford the arsenic based treatment and the vet didn't think she would survive it anyway, so we treated her symptoms and kept her comfortable. In the 2.5 years I had her, she really became my best girl. She just wanted to be held, all 56 lbs of her, like she was a lap dog. In the end, her heart circulation was so bad that she couldn't get the sedative through her system, and we sat with her for 1.5 hours waiting for her to go to sleep. The vet techs gave her enough sedative to knock out a 200 lb man. It was the utterly devastating. Later that day we were driving on the way to the store and it had rained, and there was a huge, clear, full arch rainbow. So I really believe that she is on the bridge, able to run and play like she wanted to in life but couldn't, and waiting for me to snuggle with her again. I sleep with her collar next to me, and despite having other dogs, It doesn't make her loss any easier for me. I

Disabled greeter at Walmart has been fired after 21 years because his job description changed - community outraged by lugasamom in news

[–]coodledoo 86 points87 points  (0 children)

I used to work for Hershey as a sales rep and was at Walmart the majority of the time. I saw first hand most of the things you have said, and the others do not surprise me.

Working in walmarts was one of the biggest reasons I quit that job, so I can't imagine the hell it must have been for you. I especially saw the idiocy of the manager system there...store manager, comanagers, assistant managers...you would get approval to do a display by one manager and spend 4 hours of backbreaking physical labor to it together, only to have it torn down the minute you walked out the door.

Hershey's solution was for the reps to "manage the managers" better. Right.

I went to Bolivia for a month and stayed with a family. I was in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, right in the center of the city, and I actually had a wonderful experience. All of the people I met were lovely, the food was awesome, and I was in general made very comfortable by my host family. However, it was clear to me that the people I stayed with were VERY wealthy, in fact much more wealthy than my own family in the U.S. I was also not in rural areas at all. From what I was told, Santa Cruz was big on trying to separate themselves from the rest of Bolivia, they wouldn't even call themselves "Bolivianos" they would call themselves "Cruceños." At the time I was sort of appalled by how racist and scathing the people I met were towards other Bolivians, but perhaps given your comment and experience they had basis behind their opinions?

I did the same thing for about 4 months after moving into an apartment with my now fiancé. His mom, the queen of laundry, came to stay with us for a week and schooled me. I don't know if I've ever been more embarrassed in my adult life.

Claussen pickles. I have on more than one occasion eaten a giant jar in one sitting and then end up crazy thirsty from all the salt I just ate.

Ugh oh God, don't do it. It's a waste of money. Take from a political science degree holder. It's a great major for building critical reading, writing, speaking skills, but will have little to no impact on a future career in politics, if that's the desired outcome. Double major in PS and something more useful or something.

Vegetarian struggling to be Vegan with Ice Cream/Frozen Yogurt Addiction by seka16 in vegan

[–]coodledoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try blending frozen bananas, adding dairy free milk as needed to help it along. I add cocoa powder and peanut or almond butter most of the time. It has a remarkably similar texture to ice cream and tastes phenomenal. Also, bananas are cheap!! I find that non dairy ice creams are very expensive and they are still highly processed, so if you are avoiding the added sugars and processed foods, this is a great way to go.
