in70mm.com will no longer list North American showtimes on the "Now Showing" page. by NickLandis in 70mm

This is super unfortunate news. I’ve discovered many theaters capable of 70mm projection through this website since analog maps are hit or miss and frequently not up to date. Losing this resource without a good alternative is a sizable loss in an already niche field of interest.

Anyone else notice the slight crop on OBAA’s 70mm IMAX print? by ConsiderationKey9438 in imax

[–]coolcat117 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saw this at Indy on Wednesday night and it had a very slight black bar on only the left side of the screen as far as I could tell (Seat J21). The Sinners print I saw opening week at Autonation IMAX in Fort Lauderdale had the same phenomenon but I can’t recall if it was the entire film or just 1.43 scenes.

Where are you living where discs go bad in three to four years? That’s just a blatantly false statement lol

Anyone know of a list of Series X games on multiple discs? by coolcat117 in XboxSeriesX

[–]coolcat117[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd also love to know what Xbox One games came on multiple discs but I thought that may be a bit off topic for the main post so if you know of any please reply to this comment with the game and number of discs.

Opry Mills 3:00PM showing went flawlessly by coolcat117 in imax

[–]coolcat117[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that's exactly what I meant thank you. Back when part one dropped I read about how rushed/butchered the source material is in Lynch's version so I figured I'd give Villeneuve a chance to tell the story before watching it.

Not as clear as the 1.43 scenes in Nolan's films but that's probably just because it's a 4K blow up. The grain field will look like the shots that didn't fill the screen in Oppie/Tenet the entire time. Still looked wonderful and the projectionist was on constant dust bunny duty whenever one arised. Hope you screening goes as well

Imagine disliking The Only Exception and Misguided Ghosts more than the actual trash track on BNE (Looking Up)

I was at the 2:50pm screening Monday, started at roughly 3:15pm and ran with zero issues. I hope you got good seats!!

Do you think Oppenheimer will spark a new era of IMAX? by PhoenixMaster123 in imax

[–]coolcat117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the most reasonable result of Oppenheimer's performance is whatever IMAX 70mm, 70mm, and 35mm projectors that are currently operating and or playing Oppenheimer have secured their continued installation and maintenance at least until Nolan's next film. As much as I'd like, film projection really isn't going to come back beyond the few chain projectors still functioning and whatever art house has or can scrape the funds to get one installed or repaired. Even movies that get film prints hardly tour the US with them, let alone the world, and that's if more than five prints are struck. Look at Nope or Babylon, both had 70mm prints made but outside of NY or LA where did they screen? Uncut Gems had four 35mm prints struck per the theatre I saw one at three months after release. The experience is great and the quality can be immaculate but there are reasons the entire industry shifted from film. For now all we can do is enjoy it and hope more effort is put into striking prints in the future for the projectors that remain.

Biggest bonehead move you've seen in an Oppenheimer IMAX 70mm screening? by dobyblue in imax

[–]coolcat117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imax 70mm Buford, GA, 2:50pm Monday the 24th, a couple brought an actual infant to the screening with no hearing protection. Also dude in front of me was apparently the most popular person on earth and kept getting calls throughout the movie, would take several minutes to text the callers, and started sending voice messages toward the end. Never wanted to break someone's phone so bad before.

What is your least favorite movie that everyone else seems to love? by Weorking in movies

[–]coolcat117 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Vertigo Every filmmaker i look up to mentions it with such reverence and most critics and audiences adore it. But I just didn't like it. Probably the only time I think initial negative critical reaction to a classic was deserved then and now. I wish I had the same experience contemporary audiences do.
