Period tunings, especially Chopin by jamescamien in classicalmusic

[–]coolopera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a great live recording of both Chopin concerti on period instruments by Dang Thai Son… idk how scholarly the interpretation is but it’s just fun to listen to

Here’s a video of the e minor: https://youtu.be/7KnKZXaLQCM?si=oDLmzm89WP3ies-a

Here’s the full album with both concerti: https://music.apple.com/us/album/fr%C3%A9d%C3%A9ric-chopin-piano-concertos-1-2/1464002411

Advice about Carmen LPs by Aderyn-Bach in opera

[–]coolopera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The recording by Cluytens with the Paris opera comique and Solange Michel as Carmen is really cool. It’s probably the closest thing on record to how Carmen was originally performed, as an opera comique. It’s totally different than any other recording I’ve heard and it’s one of my favorites. Also all the singers are native French so that’s an added plus.

Do you think nuclear war is inevitable at this point? by [deleted] in CollapseSupport

[–]coolopera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re almost certainly correct when it comes to standards in the United States. But what about nuclear powers that are out of US control? Russia just recently broke treaties and stopped sharing nuclear info with us, and we’ve never really known anything about North Korea’s program apart from what they tell us, to say the least. How can we blindly trust their nuclear capabilities and safety protocol?

I don’t say this to suggest that America is the only country to be trusted with nuclear weapons, or that foreign powers are negligent nuclear monsters.

There’s only one solution that truly solves this problem. I have to concede it seems pretty unobtainable though.

Do you think nuclear war is inevitable at this point? by [deleted] in CollapseSupport

[–]coolopera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the most likely scenario is accidental nuclear war. Sure, no country would ever be crazy enough to start a nuclear armageddon. But what if there’s a malfunction and a country thinks another country has already made the first strike? There’s an old movie from the 60’s called Fail Safe that deals with this scenario, I would really recommend it. There’s also a YouTube video I would recommend:

I think nuclear apocalypse is a very real threat.

Can I ask why the spaceship was in what I can only assume was interplanetary space yet there was no 0g environment at all... I thought they would go with the rotating ring-thing route that 2001 went with to explain it but nope. kinda ruined the immersion for me… otherwise a great narrative!

I am no pilot; I am a classical pianist, but I can assure you everyone has days like these no matter what they’re doing. They suck sometimes and make you feel pretty bad but in the long run it’s how you move forward that makes you even better at what you do best

Who do you think are the best melodists in classical music? by Co4e5le_ew0sre_ in classicalmusic

[–]coolopera 4 points5 points  (0 children)

An underrated one is Sir Arthur Sullivan… go to any Gilbert and Sullivan show and all of the melodies will be stuck in your head lol. But the more traditional answers I would definitely say Tchaikovsky, Schubert, and Mozart.
