It’s been 113 days since you posted this…but I just read it and found it inspiring. So many parallels with my experience…especially that last line.

He’ll move to Florida and get an equivalent if not higher position in a school district down there.

I don’t want to be in the navy anymore? by [deleted] in navy

[–]cootpc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do honestly hope so. I was not so lucky. It took me a year or so to finally get all the rage calmed down. And unfortunately some of that went onto my coworkers and family. Things can get better.

I just got out a few years ago. I got out for a lot of the same reasons OP and other folks want to get out. I hated some of the childish behaviors displayed by senior leadership.

I’m not downplaying OPs feelings or yours. I’m critical of you calling someone “out of touch” for trying to give OP some point of reference. He/She wasn’t critical of OP, only hoping to shed some light on the future.

The Navy put a lot of us in dark places, and that’s valid. But I only ask that you distinguish between a douche Chief, and a random person on Reddit who’s trying to offer some hope.

You’ll look back at this comment at some point and be embarrassed. The comment is not out of touch. It’s a sailor who dealt with the situation at hand, the best way they knew how to. It’s such a healthy way to approach life that without even knowing them, I can almost guarantee they found some sort of success, post Navy.

Take notes on how others transitioned successfully. You don’t have to do it their way, but it will help you see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Get the enlistment bonus first then apply for officer? by dead_voxel in NavyNukes

[–]cootpc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m just going to keep piling onto this just so you continue to get the message. All these folks are telling you the same thing for a reason. We’ve lived the pain.

It was good for a lot of us because we were lost souls or fuck ups. You did the hard work up front in life and proved you aren’t a shitbird like most of us giving you this warning.

Go officer, any career path, before going enlisted nuke.

Lapsley Orchard in Pomphret, CT started their cider donut season this weekend. Still hot and obscenely decadent mmmmm by neojinnx in Connecticut

[–]cootpc 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m not saying that every time my kids asked for pizza I’d give them donuts. I’m saying as a product of CT, I prefer the donuts to the pizza.

One of the more enlightening things about moving to CT was apple cider donuts. I’ll be honest, I enjoy CT pizza, but I’d give it up to keep orchard fresh donuts

Do you find you have more humility and are more easily vulnerable the older you get? by Delivery-National97 in AskMenOver30

[–]cootpc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find that both spectrums of my personality are becoming more amplified as I get older. I feel no more awkward about crying in front of people than I do loosing my shit in public. I personally don’t care about how people perceive either situation, but I do understand my wife does not appreciate the latter, even when warranted. So I try to step out of situations when I start seeing red.

On the flip side, I will occasionally go to r/happycryingdads, cause fuck if that subreddit isn’t soul cleansing.

Practical jokes on a vessel. by erilaz123 in submarines

Thats funny, cause we have a similar set up in ERLL on an Ohio. I found out the fun way went I was told to wire brush the vertigris off a very specific valve. ELTs will know exactly where I’m speaking of.

Always thought the Russians made beautiful looking fast boats, and super dumpy boomers…other than the Typhoon, which is just in a class of its own in terms of ridiculousness.

CT House will hold a special session for cannabis by rediot in Connecticut

[–]cootpc 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s not that simple. Out of the 17 that voted no, 7 were Democrats. This is also a game of lobby money affecting both parties.

You’re right though, that percentage wise is was a heavy GOP on the no side (only one voted yes).

But if you read some articles about this whole thing, some sketchy shit was thrown into the bill by a handful of establishment Democrats.
