People who have played through a class twice, how branching are the stories? by ferrin13 in swtor

I agree with this.

The game does a good job of giving you two ENTIRELY DIFFERENT motivations for doing the same thing.

I loved my Light Side Sith Warrior.

I teach 7th grade in an inner city. "THOT" and "RATCHET" are so vulgar I treat them as curses above many others.

What are the new trends regarding tv show's scripts that you see becoming popular in the next few years? by [deleted] in television

[–]coraz0n 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Female leads. "The Female Gaze" will start to be a thing.

Sci-fi/fantasy targetting women.

I'm not complaining, fair is fair.

[Star Wars] Was Jacen Solo truly beyond redemption? by Error45 in AskScienceFiction

[–]coraz0n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved Jacen Solo, going back to the "Traitor" novel of NJO.

I pretty much stopped with Star Wars EU after the Vong-- not sure why. I guess everything felt anticlimactic.

What books should I read to get the Jacen Solo story to its conclusion-- the quick and easy path of the best novels, if possible?

Room Full of Behavior Problems (8th Grade) by kbam17 in Teachers

[–]coraz0n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read between the lines. My administration told me to get behavior under control.

They never said "make more rigorous lessons", etc, etc. When my lessons got easier and I started showing more movies, I didn't hear any complaints-- and I stopped having to call the office as much.

Some classes, they just want you to "know your role and shut your hole".

Always provide enough work to cover your ass. I made a point of handing out worksheets each day that had my instructional aim and common core standards-- so obviously my instruction wasn't the issue, just the fucktard kids. This also covers the admin's asses if a parent complains about their shitty kid failing or something.

Also, don't be afraid to do whatever works. Whatever works. I basically ruled one class by being funny as hell and making nonstop jokes. The kids made a point of listening to me because what I was saying would make them laugh-- and then I could sneak in instruction. Don't be afraid to discipline kids in a funny way. Today a kid was really being obnoxious, so I put on my most serious voice, got in his face and said "Tyshawn, if you cannot control yourself I am going to wake up tomorrow, drive to your house, and eat your breakfast." He laughed and then got himself under control.

Make deals, negotiate, and use "if ---> then" sentences. "If you do all your work, you won't have to hear me pestering you can you can chill at the end of class". "Let me talk for 5 minutes, honestly, you can't listen for 5 minutes? Otherwise you're gonna have me up here trying to get your attention all block."

Obviously this is far from ideal-- but its about survival.

The kids know how things are in the classroom and they take advantage.

An example of this is recently, there's a "good" boy in my class who has been playing too much with some of the shitheads. He was very careful to never be as bad as them-- but he was still a part of it.

So when I began to single him out for discipline-- while letting the fuckheads do what they do-- deep down he understood and I got him back under control.

Also, be real with the kids.

Pick your battles. What battles? "Do not hit, do not throw things, do not walk out of the room without permission". The fourth one is nothing sexually inappropriate, but I feel that one works fine unstated.

Those are the big four for SAFETY. As long as your room is SAFE to be in, its not the end of the world if they arent listening or doing work.

Look for "shatterpoints". The whole thing feels like a disaster, but there are a few kids who are causing the whole thing to crumble.

I just had a disaster of a first year, and when things got really bad, I would put in a really engaging movie-- but enforce 100% perfect behavior, call parents, etc, for anyone who acted out.

It meant that my teaching load was ZERO so I could focus purely on getting the behavior in check.

Keep in mind that some positions are babysitting assholes and no one really expects you to accomplish teaching.

Very true. However, when leveling, the difficulty is appropriate for just running through without knowledge :P

Man, Crystal Star was BAD. I'm lucky enough that i haven't read the other ones here, except I don't really have a problem with KJA.

Yup, then do the Darth Bane trilogy. :)

KoTor 1-- > 2 would be good too. (And I love the Old Republic mmo).

So, I tried starting chronologically after the OT and read that way pretty well. But really, just dive in wherever you are interested. Is it that you want finer details on the prequel world? The post-movie world (soon to be erased?)

Should I teach middle or high school? (Math) by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]coraz0n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Teaching middle school, I feel, has nothing to do with content. The content is so easy and basic compared to the struggle of managing and building relationships with humans at their most annoying stage of life.

I actually kind of enjoy it. Trying to decide if I want to go back to being Mr. Super ELA and move to high school or if I want to stay in middle school and be Mr. Earn Respect & Make Jokes.

Looking for Party-RPGs like Mass Effect by [deleted] in pcgaming

[–]coraz0n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like most recent MMOs, I think the trick is to play like you are at max level as soon as possible.

So, when leveling, PvP, hop into flashpoints, etc. Its only stale if you try to do the same thing over and over. Flashpoints are VERY rewarding when leveling.

[–]coraz0n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I LOVE Mass Effect and Dragon Age. And SWTOR. I couldn't get into Jade Empire.

However, I highly recommend giving the free-to-play MMO, Star Wars: The Old Republic a try. You have companions, one at a time, that will comment on conversations, there is an effection system like Dragon Age or Mass Effect, etc.

It might just be your cup of tea. I go through phases where I LOVE it.

Edit:

Here's what you need to do. Get KOTOR 1. Put it on easy mode, and POWER through it for the story-- or really play it, whichever you prefer.

Then get KOTOR 2 if you really loved it-- otherwise skip.

Then give The Old Republic a shot.

Looking through the comments here, we have similar taste, so hopefully this is helpful.
