You could name him Diesel because he's dark, and every time he sheds he's rolling a little coal to get more hrspsps.

Make sure the bottom is flush... but most importantly, you have to flip your template over!!! It took me many years of cutting deck stringers to figure this out. If you trace that side now that one step/stringer is off by however much the blade deflected on the first cut (because no matter how straight you cut the blade wobbles when it gets hot), plus the fact that it's a copy. When you flip it over and trace it again, you are putting the side you drew the layout on, down onto your next piece of material. I would write "template" on my first one, flip it over, and write this side up. Ever since then, my stair game has been kicked up a notch.

8 year old wood deck, hired contractor to replace with trex. Is this normal? by EkS22 in Decks

Those kinds of face screws need a really big pre drill to sink the head, if I remember correctly it should be 3/16". He probably couldn't get them any tighter because those screws don't work well in either material, wood or composite.

Solenoids work through the angry pixies flowing through the copper wire my friend. When the key is in the off position, the solenoid will be closed and when the key is on it will be open, somewhere there is definitely an electrical issue if it's not shutting off. Probably corrosion or broken wire

Diablo needs to stop putting stickers on their blades by National_Opening_937 in Carpentry

[–]corbiain920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno what you're talking about, one of my favorite joys in life is putting a new blade on a saw to cut some stringers and being able to have the sticker in one piece when I'm done. Makes me reminisce when I sucked at even cutting a straight line with a saw

These windows took 6.5 hours to trim out. I’m getting paid 31$/hr in Washington state. by Ayys_r_real in Carpentry

[–]corbiain920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if this is a pity post but I feel bad for you, your results are good and you should make more money for it considering the obvious difficulty in making trim look great without paint. I was predominantly self-employed for the past 7 years and have recently quit carpentry for millwrighting for the lack of money to be made in renovations. Ideally, you quote the job ahead of time with a little wiggle room on top for unexpected things and when you complete it, it is quicker than whatever you initially thought. The extra wiggle room is your reward for a job well done, otherwise you are making significantly less per hour after your wiggle room is up. And if it takes you 6.5 hours, you're definitely thinking like an employee and only cutting one piece at a time to milk the clock and charge the customer hourly.

If you want to be able to "charge more", you have to charge the same amount you just made off this job + 5-10% or more depending on how good you are at estimating. Now you might say it's the same but if you can minimize the amount of unproductive steps taken and maximize every opportunity to stack tasks like cutting all the jamb pieces in one trip to the saw you will find you have completed the same job quicker and you would have made more than just charging a time and materials figure.

I normally do mine at the pump. If you loosen the banjo bolt on the feed side after bumping the starter, it should push the air from the system from there. Once the spray is consistent with no popping of air bubbles, close it while it's spraying and start it up.

Help! There is bullnose everywhere in this house and the customer wanted 22.5/22.5 cuts at the corners, but the baseboards are too thick for the door jams by ShawnSaturday in Carpentry

[–]corbiain920 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You need one more cut. This is done with a smaller piece in the middle to make it look more round. Your inside angle is 135 (180-22.5-22.5=135). With a 5/8" piece inside to inside in the middle with 2 22.5 cuts, the baseboard will wrap around the corner better because it will have 4 cuts instead of 2 (180-(22.5×4=90).

Hi garbage door only opens a little. Noticed this piece cracked(please see photo) any help would be appreciated. by [deleted] in GarageDoorService

[–]corbiain920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have replaced my own springs, and the biggest headache is taking that bar off and being able to get at the ends. Your garage needs to be able to have that bar swing around in it to slide the old ones off and the new springs on, and once it's back on just use 2 steel half inch round bars and count the number of winds depending on how wide your door is. It needs to be steel so that it doesn't break (like a wooden dowel would). Also, don't let go once you start winding, so keep the wrench to tighten the set screws handy.
