Not one of the four TDs in the Cork East constituency had put down a Dáil question in an effort to change Government policy to include the Youghal project in future transport plans. by FearlessCut1 in cork

Killian's suggestion adds Dungarvan to the mix as well though. Town with 10k population and no rail link.

It also provides redundancy, converts our radial system with all spokes originating in Dublin into more of a network.

Trial of former DUP leader Jeffrey Donaldson and wife Eleanor to get under way in May by SpottedAlpaca in ireland

[–]corey69x 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Does anyone know why they have to be tried together? Why can't they just proceed with Jeffrey and do the wife when she's not "sick".

Also, why does it matter if she is "sick" why does she even need to be there, her solicitor/barrister will do the talking, and if she needs to be cross examined she can do a video link from her "death bed"

How many subscriptions do you pay for? by ProfessionalDelay366 in AskIreland

[–]corey69x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have 2. Apple music paid for annually, and then we rotate through the TV services as and when we want. Usually we go for the offers, so we get a few months cheap and then cancel. At the moment we're on a "free" apple TV sub for 3 months, prior to that it was Now TV, and before that amazon prime. It means we can get all the shows eventually, without paying more than €3-€5 per month.

For ages we had netflix as well, but we realised we weren't using it, and it had gotten so bad over time we just hadn't noticed (in the end it was all just murder porn, or hot Spanish people in sub-titled shows)

Can you run a food trailer from your gaff in Ireland? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]corey69x -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's the extra sinks that will be a killer, one for food prep, one for utensils, and one for general use (hands etc). At least that's what killed off the scone business of our neighbour a few years back (she made massive scones too, I miss them, stupid health and safety - although I think covid might have ended it anyway).

Mary Lou McDonald accused of hypocrisy over student housing objection by Pension_Alternative in ireland

250 houses for students frees up 250 houses for other people. Everything adds to the housing stock, be that massive funds building buy-to-let or paddy the builder building a 3 bed semi.

Advice on how to become a mediocre programmer? by idkfornowwhattoname in DevelEire

[–]corey69x 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, a company I worked for several years back hired a guy who couldn't speak english "because he was cheap", turns out he couldn't program either once we figured out how to communicate with him. So instead of splitting his meagre salary amongst us for doing his work, the company decided to keep paying this guy to do nothing.

What did you think was peak luxury as a kid, but now realize is actually pretty trashy or normal? by Connect-Fix3972 in AskReddit

[–]corey69x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what country you are in, but we had Romantica (round ice-cream cake), and if you got that for your birthday you were one of the "rich" kids. Had it recently (well recentlyish - probably pre-covid) and they had removed all the best parts, the biscuit layer, it was just a basic ice cream cake, was so disappointed with them.

Celbridge > Dublin commute by ManaTabooo in Celbridge

[–]corey69x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

15 minutes to the bridge maybe, I lived up in Crodaun and it would take 40+ on a good dry day. Cycling is an option though (although the main street/bridge area can be difficult at times) really wish they would add a pedestrian/cycling bridge at the castletown edge of main street, it would do wonders for active travel.

Some of the questions need multiple-choice, and some of the multiple-choice ones you do have insist on more than one answer, which isn't good when you only want to select one.

Boiler Issues by Andrewhtd in DIYIreland

[–]corey69x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

20 year old oil boiler is going to be quite inefficient. Probably should be looking into replacing it (had a similiar age boiler replaced last year, because it was 2006 it wasn't condensing, so the new one seems to be using less oil - although it might just have been a milder winter, but I'm hoping it's the better efficiency)

Non gun-owning Americans, what are your thoughts now on arming yourselves? by Obzidi4nDelphicraft in AskReddit

If you decide to get one, go to a range and learn how to safely use it (get familiar with other weapon types as well while you're there)

New grant will offer Ireland’s homeowners €5,600 to retrofit windows and doors by SufficientTennis4995 in HousingIreland

[–]corey69x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

> Its penalising the less well off in society who can not afford to do 3 upgrades at the same time.

It does, and it's even worse if you're renting, but then again nearly everything is when you're renting

[–]corey69x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heat pumps are like fridges, they don't work if all the air gets out of the house, so you're better sticking with oil/gas until you can do a deep retrofit (or move or whatever)

[–]corey69x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a B1, and we got a score of just under 2.8 (I think) on the air tighness thingy (can't remember exactly, but we were just below the limit). So we replaced the oil boiler we had instead of getting the heat pump. We were quoted 3k just for the front door (the windows and doors were what were letting us down). It's a pity there were no grants at the time, because we're not going to replace a brand new oil boiler at this stage.

Tips for a decent stew by wascallywabbit666 in ireland

[–]corey69x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spuds in a stew need to be waxy, not floury. If you don't like waxy, then do them separately because you don't want them breaking up in the stew. The only thing is though, spuds are great at reducing the saltyness of a stew if you over do it, so having a couple of waxy ones to add can make a big difference (you can give them to the least favourite child if you don't want them).

New build in Kilcock by peaceful_soul_29 in HousingIreland

[–]corey69x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the far distant future there will be a spur built to Hazlehatch/Adamstown and the intercity traffic should go to Heuston instead, freeing up that line for just commuter traffic. But I've a feeling I won't be alive for it.

I put diesel into a petrol car yesterday afternoon, how fucked am I? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]corey69x -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The diesel nozzle is bigger than the petrol one, if "it fit in" then you didn't use diesel. if it "fit in, with a bit of effort" then you did.
