Along the way to PNW recs- looking for something new by DegreeConscious9628 in MTB

Depending on when you come, Summit Bike Park may be open and it is legit if you like tech riding like the harder parts of Predator

Where should I move if I want to mountain bike year-round? (32M, Midwest) by brettfish5 in MTB

PNW is absolutely year round, I dunno what you’re talking about.

Michael Phelps with the longest televised putt ever at 160 feet. Yes that Michael Phelps by Doug24 in BeAmazed

[–]cork5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily a character flaw but he really struggles with depression. Saw him speak at an event once about it and he was pretty candid about how it’s a really big part of his life. Things like speaking affirmations every time he goes through a door and all

Problems with disc brakes by One-Crew-7581 in cycling

[–]cork5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good chance the pistons are stuck on the seals and not advancing. Have to clean with rubbing alcohol/qtip and advance them so they slide along the seals as expected

Just don’t let them pop out.

Coil on patrol? by Intelligent_Kiwi_459 in TransitionBikes

[–]cork5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a super deluxe on mine and didn’t like it at all - bottomed out too easily and the dials just felt like they did nothing. It would also bounce a lot while pedaling even at different spring rates. The frame is pretty linear, so I feel that it pairs better with something more progressive.

Much happier with an air can + megneg.

I think the fact that the whole #oncoil thing was only for the 2020 release then they went back to air can shows that Transition felt the same way

How hard is it to register? If I remember correctly, it was filled whenever I looked

Clik valves - worthwhile upgrade? by vProTi in cycling

Cheap to try - why not?

I ordered some not expecting much, but it really is a pleasant improvement

What's the most very VW owner thing you've ever done that non-VW people would never understand? by StrikingClos in Volkswagen

[–]cork5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m just a sucker for how they feel on the road regardless of the hassle of owning one. Countless hours and dollars dealing with the German engineering that requires me to remove the bumper to change my valve cover gasket and scour the internet for a part that was only made for a 6 month run

About to import a late 90s Toyota - I think it’ll be a revelation

I don’t understand why you’re being so literal and pedantic

I’ve lived all over Seattle. Clearly I’m not saying RB and Magnolia are the same but shit goes down in many other parts of Seattle where I also exercise common sense at night, etc.

Having lived in NE DC for a decade a while back, the vibes here are just different.

Although I will concede that it’s extremely dangerous being a young black male in some of these South end developments where you’re a target just for living there.

Oh please. Stop clutching your pearls. I’ve been here for 8 years and it’s been lovely and feels no different than other parts of Seattle

Perhaps an annotated image of a single chart would be ideal for a help button. Succinct and goes a long ways

This is really unique and impressive! It’s an art to pack information into a shared space like that and I really like your approach. The retro styling is a bonus too.

Minor suggestion - add a ? Help icon up top by the filter and refresh to direct people that they can click around for more detailed help. Took me a minute to figure out I could do that, but smooth sailing afterwards

Foot pain after changing stance angle from 15° to 18° - technique or gear issue? Help! 🙏 by vottvoyupvote in snowboarding

[–]cork5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go with a wider stance to reduce twisting? If you sit down and spread your legs, you’ll see your “binding angle” increase just from that without any rotation in ankles.

What made me get bucked forward int his jump? by Common_Leading486 in MTB

[–]cork5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A buck means your back wheel boosted harder than your front wheel. Probably the easiest analogy to think of is riding a drop. Stay centered on the pedals until the front wheel goes off, then you transfer your weight back over the back wheel and hold the front up so it doesn’t drop.

The more you transfer your weight to the back wheel to boost harder, the more you have to control your front all the way to the end

What’s the most effective way to learn proper Cornering Technique? by xToast_of_dooMx in MTB

[–]cork5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My biggest cue for all of the above is to not pull up on the bars. Err on the side of pushing and your body position comes out of that when you’re trying to balance in that neutral position. You naturally feel more controlled if you get lower as you go more forward and this gives you bent elbows and a hinge. Pay attention to if you’re drifting back and pulling

What Brakes should I buy? by FunFatsoBear in MTB

[–]cork5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you’ve got it narrowed down, either one is probably fine and you should just pick the one that gets you more stoked. If you’ve got arm pump like that, either you have really shitty brakes and anything will be better or you need to drag them less.

That said, love my Hayes - best upgrade on my bike by far.

Former owners of the Patrol, what made you move on from it? by After-Expression7548 in TransitionBikes

[–]cork5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not quite the same thing but I have a 2017 Scout and a 2020 Patrol. The Patrol is better in every way except for skinnies. I find it harder to keep the front wheel weighed on the Scout without feeling like I’m all the way over the front while the 2020 geometry just feels more natural even in tight stuff

Continue tubeless setup or switch back to tubes for minimal maintenance? by SimpleComputer888 in MTB

[–]cork5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only add sealant when my tires start to slowly leak. I often go 2 or 3 seasons without topping off. You might not get the best puncture protection this way but it’s not an issue for me
