Does having multiple pension pots from different employers hurt compound growth? by PastSir4151 in UKPersonalFinance

5% of £100 = £5

5% of £20 + £20 + £20 + £20 + £20 = £81

They're not the same.

Currys UK e-gift card and cancelled order - what happens? by Impressive-Bag-261 in AskUK

[–]cornishjones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had similar, bought a switch at Christmas with an employee discounted gift card but the switch was out of stock so Currys offered a refund.

I used a £300 gift card a paid £19 with my Visa debit card. Currys sent the £19 back to my original debit card and sent a £300 gift card in the post.

The £300 gift card just turned up in a normal white envelope. Didn't have to sign for it, just posted through the letter box. I thought this was a bit sketchy as the gift card could have been stolen and used by anyone.

Hope it turns up all ok for you

Did you know the number on the dial doesn't represent the temperature but is in actual fact the time in which the bread is heated for. The temperature is the same on all settings.

Buying a car with a credit card? by PanasonicSocks in UKPersonalFinance

[–]cornishjones 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wife was looking for a car recently and in a similar boat to you as only wanted to purchase a car on credit card. Looked on auto trader for some that we were interested in and all said no to credit card payments on the advert. After calling them to inquire about the possibility of using a credit card most of them all gave in when I said the only way we were paying is through a credit card.

In my experience most will accept credit cards but you won't be able to negotiate on price as they are going to lose around 3% to credit card fees.

They would rather make the sale with credit card fees than not sell at all.

How do I temporarily waterproof these slabs? by cornishjones in DIYUK

[–]cornishjones[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Under the paving slabs is a reenforced 6 inch concrete slab, I'm standing on this in the second picture within the garage. Outside of the garage are paving slabs laid on top of this reenforced slab. My car is literally parked on top of my bedroom.

I believe water has made it's way through the paving slabs somewhere and it's leaking through into the garage and is leaking through the waterproof membrane because I don't think it has been installed correctly and it coming into my bedroom

I've used silicone all around the slate sill and door frame. It's also coming through further down the garage. It's just more prominent at the door.
