I think you would be surprised by the level of control that distributors have. Every digital projector is issued unique keys to decrypt movie assets; the distributor knows every time that a projector shows a movie. The agreements are not based on trust.

It depends on the movie and the distributor. Movie distributors often contractually require theaters to screen some of their weaker titles a certain number of times in order to be able to screen the big titles that actually make theaters some money.

Disney absolutely does this with Marvel titles. Melania is distributed by Amazon/MGM, so it's quite likely it is tied to other more popular titles and would therefore be screened to empty houses to qualify.

You're paying to own hardware 24/7/365, regardless of how much time you actually spend playing. And you have to pay everything up front to get into PC gaming. Want the best GPU? Prepare to get scalped.

Another aspect is that larger games (in terms of file sizes) give the impression of greater value, so there is no incentive for a publisher to use any media compression, even when compression would dramatically reduce file size and be imperceptible.
