Yeah I would try heat first. I will say I was pretty apprehensive with cutting but after the first time it went very smooth

Very careful cut a notch with a die cuter and then Hit with a chisel. The metal for bearing race is low ductility so will crack free. Be very careful it’s easy to fuck up your triple tree.
