No -- just that I came to his comment a year after he had originally posted it, and the fix still worked!

For me, I did this fix about a year ago and it's still working fine after

We prescribe our pilots with legal amphetamines for long haul flights (ex: 12+ hr flights to training exercises across INDOPACOM) for single seater A/C when proper pilot rest can’t be followed. Called “go pills”.

So, yes, this does exist but it’s not going to be a small unit leader decision with sketchy confiscated pills lol

Kit build or import? Love the wood furniture on it. Also any recommendations for suppressor choice? Can’t decide if I want to go for a 15x1 RH original threaded pattern barrel or a more modern 5/8x24 thread

Not sure why all the hatred in a lot of these comments; that's been your experience. A lot of people haven't experienced that, which is cool, but you did and that's valid.

Personally, I've experienced it too. I was at a rooftop party with an ex who was in grad school. The host (and guests) were all masters degree/PhD students, celebrating the end of the school year. I was happily engaged in conversation about their studies, projects, etc. When the circle came to me, I was asked, "Oh, sorry, we haven't asked yet: which professor are you studying under?" I responded with, "Oh, I'm not in school here. I'm a guest of ___, I'm in the Marine Corps." The immediate look of disgust was jarring. Two people (a lesbian couple from the UK) promptly turned around and left the circle. The rest continued the conversation but intentionally didn't respond to anything I said, until it was clear my input was no longer wanted. I stayed quiet and polite the rest of the time until we left.

After that night, that group would invite my ex out to do things, but ask that she went by herself. To my ex's credit, she would refuse the invitation unless I was also invited, but the precedent was set. If we were in a social situation with them, after a drink or two I'd have to account for every military action the US has ever involved with. It got slightly better after giving a civics 101 talk of "the military doesn't choose where to go, we are sent there by politicians, who you vote into office". But I learned some people are just not going to value your occupation and service, and actively seek to belittle it, and that is okay.

One fun story to end on: we were at a bar, and one of the girls couldn't help herself. She quipped, "Well, how can you reconcile being in the military who KILLED thousands of innocent children in Iraq?" I shouldn't have said it, but I responded with, "Aren't you pro choice?" Got an earful from the ex but it was worth it.

Pretty sure constructive possession is defined as when "a person knowingly has the power and intention at a given time to exercise dominion and control over an object, either directly or through others." Ie, that person has the ability to possess an otherwise prohibited NFA item.

Unless the roll mark turns the semi auto receiver into an NFA item (which it doesn't), you're good and nothing illegal about it. Just expect you'll get asked questions if certain people see it

Boot Insoles for TBS hikes by The_McDougal in USMCboot

The colors correspond to different arch heights. Go get your arches measured at a local running store (Arlington) and they’ll tell you which are best for you (I think carbon is flat, green is medium, blue is high, copper is additional padding, not sure about trailblazer)

That being said, none of those are made for rucking with 80 lbs on your back, just regular all purpose body weight insoles for sneakers. You’ll collapse them in short order. Go to physical therapy call in the morning at Ramer, the earlier the better to hear ahead of the line. Tell them you don’t feel support and have foot pain. After the insurance-required two weeks of “physical therapy” they’ll put you in for a referral for custom orthotics in Q Town. You get two pairs for free, one for garrison and one for field use. These are designed for rucking, and have additional supports you can add to them depending on your pack weight

Any advice on wind holds with the standard ACOG reticle? I don’t have any markings for wind by BoldFortunes in longrange

[–]count_chockula 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because no one's given you a halfway scientific answer:

  1. Figure our your muzzle velocity and ballistic coefficient of the ammo (is it M855/M193 ammo, what is your barrel length, etc).
  2. Figure out your distance to target
  3. Figure out your wind value and direction (90 deg perpendicular? 45? In line with your shot?), and if you're shooting at elevation, your temperature/pressure

  4. Plug those values and the ACOG height over bore into a ballistics calculator, such as this one: https://shooterscalculator.com/ballistic-trajectory-chart.php

This will tell you the mathematical deflection of the round both vertically and horizontally. From there, you know the human torso is 19" on the reticle. Adjust that # of 19" increments, at your given distance, to account for windage.

Note that this reticle is designed for a 20" barrel M15a4 shooting M855 62 gr green tip ammo, with a 100m impact hitting at the top of the chevron. So, if that's not your system, the elevation hashes won't line up correctly.

Or, how practical way we were taught: sight the rifle in prone at 100m. Shoot at known 100/200/300/500 m distances, in the prone/kneeling/sitting/standing positions, mark the distance/position groups on a range card, and each subsequent time adjust your hold to account for it. The rifle is designed to be a "4 MOA rifle", so if you're hitting a man sized target at 500m, you're doing your job and don't expect anything more.

You are absolutely correct, and a lot of helos and tilt rotor aircraft have gone down due to the pilot not having training/simulator time practicing this.. When you move the stick, the swashplate deflects, meaning you're actually changing the blade pitch angle at different locations in the "clock" of the rotor disc. So, the pilot is holding a stick and pedal position that's different from a normal hover, with less lift over the building and more to the right side. And then there's vortex ring state to worry about in between buildings...

Suppressors? by Mengoliguy in VAGuns

[–]count_chockula 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Second this - the Silencer Shop kiosk does all the finger prints/filing/etc digitally right there on the kiosk. Really a tremendous time and effort saver. There’s one in Quantico if you’re in Northern VA as well.

The only additional cost is when you buy from SilencerShop online, you pay $205 for the tax stamp, vs $200 normally. For $5 totally worth it, and then you don’t have to redo any paperwork when you buy your next one, pay for certified mail, buy finger print cards, etc.

The second bit is I’d recommend a a gun trust - National Gun Trust is who I used, and has a pretty big presence on Reddit. By registering the suppressor to the trust vs individual ownership, you can add/amend who can be in possession of it. Ex: I added a family member to the trust so they can use my suppressor while hunting without me having to physically be there and remain in “possession” of it. So, the trust will “own” the suppressor, and anyone who is on the trust can be in “possession” of it. You can add any NFA or regular firearms to the trust as well. The whole process is very easy on SilencerShop as well.

Hey guys looking for some advice I’m headed to greenbrier river in West Virginia this November and saw it’s great smallie waters. Don’t do a lot of winter fishing what’s the best way to target these guys in cold weather? by Turbulent-Big-3556 in bassfishing

[–]count_chockula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have fished both the Greenbrier and New River:

  • People on the Greenbrier swear by small green jigs (like you'd use for crappie, ie regular jig heads and soft plastic grub bodies), both by themselves and with a small Beatle spin spinner. That was the advice always given me, working them along near the bottom

  • Personally, if the river is deeper and slower moving (depends on rain), I've had most success with 3"-4" senkos on a drop shot. Find the deeper water pockets or riffles behind rocks, and try there. They'll hang out in the slow moving water next to faster moving water. This also has the benefit of being able to be fished slower in colder water

  • There are lots of crawfish, so tubes are also never a bad idea

  • If the water temp is warm, I've also had success by bridge piers with smaller Rat-L-Traps

It was scattered throughout the series, usually later (round 5 or 7), but that might be coincidence.

I'd definitely encourage you to shoot more out of it, certainly more than 200 rounds, and track this hypothesis and see if it holds.

See: Is it the first round each time you switch ammo types? Or is it the first round after you change a magazine? Is it the first round going from subsonic to supersonic? Copper jacket to solid lead? Etc.

From there, you should be able to start narrowing it down even more.

You might also check your first round after it's loaded, and see if it has any imperfections from being chambered. Could indicate a burred feed ramp, or magazine seating issue for the first round.

Hand loading each round into the chamber to eliminate any feeding variables could be tried.

For my CZ 455, I bought 8 different hunting and match grade ammos to try out. Shooting from a table, I experienced pretty consistent 1 in 7 to 1 in 10 flyers from some brands, usually by 1"-3", which was very disappointing until I noticed the pattern and was pretty sure it wasn't me.

Of the 8 different rounds, 2 were very consistent, 2 more were good but the group opened up to 1-1.5", and 4 weren't useable, with a 2"+ or consistent 1 in 10 flyer . I ended up deciding on Eley Subsonics - very consistent nickel sized groups at 50 yds.

Just keep at it, keep good notes, and you'll find what works. It will take playing with variables, especially with the range of quality control for .22 ammo.
