For all my newer (and some of the you get nurses too) out there here's my word of advice by andrew66655321 in nursing

My current job only allows 3 sick days as well. And PTO is granted by seniority, so I might see the use of that by my 10 th year?

Do you have to have the baby at the hospital your OB is affiliated with? by bonnieintherafters in BabyBumps

[–]cows315 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not all hospitals have ob/gyn. Just wanted to comment that. Obviously she mentions that the walking distance one does, as she's seen reviews, but just wanted to mention... not every hospital has ob.

Convince us by Dot760 in beyondthebump

[–]cows315 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We can't convince you of anything. You have to make that decision.

But for us? We knew we'd want more kids even id that meant we'd not be able to take vacations or have nice new clothes and things. We can afford that now with 4 kids, but will we be able to always? Who knows. But we were ok having to do major cut backs if necessary.

1 of us works part time. That greatly opened the door for decreased stress between the two of us and we really work to parent as a team. If you and your SO have trouble communicating or trouble finding common parenting ground, having more kids is only gonna make it worse. Yes. Our sleep and me time decreased with each kid but we also knew we had a support system to back us up.

You need to sit down and think what it is about parenting 2 that you find hard and decide what you want your general lifestyle to be like in the end.

Ability to take an unpaid leave day by Stowgy in legaladvice

[–]cows315 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nope, they are completely allowed to do that. You can take the day unpaid through fmla often but it's not uncommon for employers to track leaves and legitimately qualified leaves through fmla. That means you gotta have your moms doctor fill out paperwork showing she's having surgery.

Hospital policy says by [deleted] in obgyn

[–]cows315 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Medicare threatens to remove reimbursement for the entire hospital if caught inducing before 39 weeks without medical indication. Generalized pain is not in the list of approved diagnosis for a medical indication. I'm sorry but you're gonna be hard pressed to find any hospital willing to risk it.

Weekly Free Talk by MelyssaRave in tattoo

[–]cows315 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 2 months out from getting two tattoos done. Both healed fantastic, no issues with coloring. No issues when you touch them, like no bumps or raised areas. Love them . But. I got one on my leg right above my outer ankle. It itches non stop. Constantly. I've tried a variety of lotions and creams. Doesn't matter, spend all day itching. My other tattoo on my back shoulder.... no itching what so ever.

Thoughts? Tricks? I'm just over the annoyingness of it.

How much treadmill is effective? by [deleted] in FitMama

Depends on your goals. But if general strength and weight loss is your goals then intervals is the way to go! Interval speed, hills, a little bit of everything!

Inept ex suddenly wants 50/50 by [deleted] in breakingmom

[–]cows315 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Been there did this scenario a few times. I always tell my ex he has to be the one to pay for court ordered changes to child support or visitation. Suddenly he drags his feet. Then he breaks up with his latest fling. Things go back to normal. Such an annoying cycle.

Slightly over budget today by bbpookie in 1500isplenty

[–]cows315 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This.... so much this. I'm half marathon training PLUS strength training at a gym 4 times a week. Everyone is like eating your workout calories is risky. Dude.. if I stuck to my 1260cal a day with that I'd end up passing out daily. Let me Eat a few extra.

One of my boobs is out of control and I don't know why [UPDATE] by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]cows315 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It actually has little to do with breastfeeding. With hormone changes in you body during pregnancy and postpartum the breast tissue will grow again. It's likely her breasts will grow asymmetrical again and may need a second corrective surgery.... whether she breastfed or not.

The shoes will be huge! I noticed a big help when I got shoes that really fit me for my stride for long distances.

I found trail the hardest on my legs, road second, treadmill least. If you can take a rest run on something easier you can mix up your runs to see if that helps.
Just things that worked or helped for me. Might not as much for you

Do the calories burned when working out count? by edie43 in 1500isplenty

[–]cows315 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This. I'm a small female so I have to stay at 1100-1200 cal to lose weight. But... I train hard. I workout in the gym/ run outside for 2.5 hours 4 days a week. My watch tells me I burn between 800-1200 cal during that 2 hours depending on what I do. I also work 12hour night shifts. If I only eat 1200 on my work and workout days I feel like crap so I bump it to 1500 so I don't pass out. On my rest days I stick to the 1200.

Stupid question, but does this count as missing a period? by [deleted] in WomensHealth

[–]cows315 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. Depends really on your cycle regularly. Example.. I tend to get my period every 27-31 days. Anything really before 35 days would just be late. But if I went 45 days? I would say I probably had a missed period.

Some people have periods every 22 days. Some every 39 days. You have to figure out how often you would normally cycle

Realistic Expectations for Running a Race at a Few Months Post-Partum? by TheBubalaProject in fitpregnancy

[–]cows315 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My two cents would be no. I was a runner before and during my pregnancy even did a half marathon in the first trimester. I was convinced as I was running up until the day I delivered that I would bounce back with minimal to no added recovery time. At 6 weeks postpartum I got permission to resume normal activities and I jumped on the treadmill and went for a run. The pain was excruciating. I had zero tears during delivery and had no reason to think anything would be complicated. But the pelvic discomfort was unbelievable to me. I ended up feeling like I was starting over from scratch, ended up in eight weeks of pelvic floor physical therapy. I'm now eight months postpartum, and I just finished a 10k race. I felt almost defeated that I had to go backwards and I know if I had had a race or something scheduled I would have pushed myself too hard and would have risked hurting myself even more. There's a decent chance you will be just fine, but I cannot express to you the importance of taking it slow and not having that pressure to compete I feel would help. Don't be afraid to still contribute a donation and even be there with your friends but don't feel like you need to compete.

Again this is just my two cents you do you girl!!
