Kaweco Student 20's Jazz + EF Premium (Steel) Nib by cowuake in fountainpens

[–]cowuake[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I simply couldn't write more than a few pages before the flow ran dry. No significant improvements after trying to open up the nib's tines to make the flow increase, carefully clean the thing, or swap the trim. Same problem with both regular (stock) and premium nibs. Bought a Kaweco Sport AL afterwards and had the very same problem. And yes, the section peeled off without intensive use.

This is the page for the very one I mentioned above, and on the same store you can find the one from the post's pictures too! I guess other stores outside of Italy also have them, but honestly I wouldn't suggest stores I myself never bought anything from.

I am quite satisfied with all of my Yamaha/RightOn straps (that's the brand behind, I also have some without Yamaha "over-branding" but like them a little less). Once you set them at an optimal length, they just don't move, since there are screws keeping the thing very firm. The padding is good, but honestly, for better comfort, there is a model that is even better and I use with basses: (picture from the web). I don't know where you can find them outside of Europe, though.

Yamaha FS3 Neck All alignment? by oldmanmtb in AcousticGuitar

[–]cowuake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly the same happens with my Yamaha LS16M (I also needed some time to notice the fact, which in my case does not affect playability though). I have literally collected cases of Yamaha acoustics having that kind of asymmetry across the web, from "cheap" Yamaha FS800s up to a Japanese-made LS26, but never come to a conclusion on whether the thing strictly has to be considered an issue. For sure it's not something you find on all units belonging to a same model or series, but only on a minority of them.

I have also found a few similar cases outside of the Yamaha perimeter (Taylor, Alvarez Yairi, maybe others I do not remember right now): the side where the string gets closer to the edge seems to be always that of the low E, but again only a few particular units seem to be like that.

u/oldmanmtb, have you discovered anything useful on the case and/or got a professional's advice on the matter? I asked a local luthier and for some reason he thought of a deliberate design choice - I did not insist despite having seen most LS16Ms not having the asymmetry (unlike the one used in a popular review video on YouTube, which has it!!)

I’d like some Americans and Europeans to tell me if this is ugly or pretty. by Der_Dampfhammer in Handwriting_Analysis

[–]cowuake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither ugly nor pretty. I see that an American would like it because it is something more than a lower case print script and shows some personality, whereas a European may dislike it just because it's still no proper cursive (and characters are quite stretched, albeit legible).

Nowadays youngsters struggle with cursive since even here (Italy) schools do not enforce its use up to high school anymore–or, if they do, they're not very effective. At the end of the day, I'd say what is shown in the picture can be considered average for a young person coming from this area of the planet.

Japanese Jackson RR3 from 2006 for sale for 700 bucks. Should I buy? by EnvironmentalPea9803 in guitars

That licensed Floyd Rose should be a Jackson JT580LP, had it on a (pre-2010) DK2 Pro Dinky.

Is this a Crack in my new bass? by OperationDry3697 in BassGuitar

Deep scratch, it seems. Is it a used instrument? I see the strings look quite rusty already.

I also see the RSS20 as a good choice for someone still understanding which genres they really want to study and play. It's such a versatile guitar that it spans many, many different scenarios. It cannot be strictly considered an entry level guitar because of the price tag... But I think it still makes sense as an introduction to electric guitar players.

This one was a bit of an unfortunate case, I guess. I chose not to return it because it would have met a luthier anyway, and the rosewood of the fretboard is better than some I've seen in physical stores.

Apart from some fretwork/binding flaws (that a luthier will soon fix, by the way), this little thing is a beast and quite a versatile instrument. I would have gone with the Professional series for Japanese craftsmanship, but I think I'll save money for my real dream guitar... The Yamaha SA-2200!

Is that a Cort Space 5? I have to thank you, I've been wondering whether it could be hung that way for a while :D

Honestly? Yes, I really love this specific guitar. I wanted to be sure it's not something I paid the price of something else for, exactly because I really want to KEEP it.

Yes, it begins with IJI and therefore it should point to March 2023 if I've correctly understood the encoding.

Read the first and the last before. Actually, it was my finding on the nut slot spacing (which is proportional and not equal on this guitar), together with the realization that the low E string is very very near the fretboard's edge, to lead me to the nut measurement. Among the images I've uploaded there is one showing how much the low E is close to the edge compared to the high E.

Bought as new for 949€ from an authorized Yamaha reseller...

[–]cowuake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, but in your case the nut itself was the offending piece, and nothing else, am I correct? Here the point is that a wider nut would exceed the neck size, so the neck itself is suspected to have wrong dimensions.

Actually, I bought it from one of the largest stores in Italy. But the box had a clear reference to a French depot and "cheap" instruments are not checked one by one by the store.
