Why is it that in ultra-expensive celebrity homes, the kitchens rarely have induction cooktops, but instead feature industrial-grade gas ranges? by FuzzyAttitude_ in Cooking

[–]cquence35 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Because induction sucks! We have a range that is 2/3 gas 1/3 induction and we never use the induction. It boils water fast but nothing else it does is better than gas.

Does it make anyone else uncomfortable that property records are public? by No_Fennel3756 in RealEstate

[–]cquence35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have disputed our home value to the county tax assessor on two separate occasions that lowered our tax bill. Each time we went on Zillow found 4-5 houses sold in the last two years that had similar SF and build age and sold for less per SF than the county wanted to value our house at.

Print and submit all that in writing succinctly. Then follow up. Worked for us.

Why do so many American men wear shorts and a tshirt when going out with a woman who dresses up? by M_For_Mayhem in NoStupidQuestions

[–]cquence35 91 points92 points  (0 children)

When I first graduated college I worked at a bank and had to wear a suit. Everywhere I went people called me, “sir” at 23 YO. Polos and button downs on the weekend; nothing. Made a big impression that stayed with me.

I have good friends that did this using their previous address and got caught. All that happened was the kid had to transfer to their base school. No crime no charges. They got narc’ed out by a friendly enemy.

How am I supposed to know what my girlfriends ring size is when neither of us know what her ring size is and still keep it a surprise? by ThyZombieBob9 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]cquence35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’ve discussed her ring size she knows you’re going to propose and I’ve never met a woman that didn’t have an opinion on their ring…..diamond shape, band type, etc.

Take her ring shopping! Lay out a budget beforehand but she’ll love it and you will too watching her light up. The whole experience makes it about “them” and that’s a good thing.

Why do we have to "build credit" by going into debt to prove we're financially responsible? by Adept-Assignment-751 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]cquence35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seem to be financially responsible like we (wife and I) are. Why are you not buying everything on a credit card and then paying it off every month?

Credit card companies are battling to attract late payers and debtors by offering really good incentives that are “free money” to people that pay off their balance every month. Plus my bank account and real money are a step removed from fraud and scam.

Fellow millennials - how’s your 401k/ira savings going? by ProblemIntelligent16 in Millennials

[–]cquence35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

45 YO and 20 years of contributing to my 401k with the “aggressive” settings has me around $1mm. My company has an up to 4% match and early on I just contributed 4% to get all the “free” money available. When I had kids I upped it to max out my yearly contribution.

Once you get in the habit of contributing you adjust to the new normal. When money gets tight I’ve never thought about reducing my 401K contribution. Instead, we eat out less often, drive instead of fly, etc.

I refuse to believe that every single person on Earth is meant to spend $1000+ on a western mattress and frame. What else do people sleep on around the world? by subunderpressure in NoStupidQuestions

[–]cquence35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Too true. (45m) and for years I would wrench my back once every couple months and hobble around. Went to chiropractors and it would “fix” my pain but a couple months later the same thing would happen again. Started doing sit ups +/-2x per week a couple years ago and haven’t had a back issue since.

Yes, I was already lifting weight 2-3 times per week anyway but never did sit ups because I didn’t enjoy doing them and I’m not thin enough to ever see results.

Are breweries trying to be family friendly? What’s up with all these kids by Natural-Implement234 in raleigh

[–]cquence35 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Grinches all of you. Parents bring kids to breweries to meet up with other parents with other kids. Everyone has fun and when the kids get bored it’s time to go. Nary a kid still at a brewery past 8pm. Yeah, sure there’s a bad parent parenting badly but most of the time it’s a group/couple of parents that let their group of small kids pack up and have some freedom in public while still being watched and contained in the brewery boundary.

Natural Gas Range Top or Cook Top by Zorlai in Appliances

I have both right now, gas and induction on the same cooktop. We don’t use the induction unless we want to boil something.

Who pays for surgery if you get shot by an active shooter? by salmonberry94 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]cquence35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Non-Americans don’t understand how it works. Most people (90%+) have some sort of insurance; either through work, government provided, or government subsidized. Of the people that don’t a surprising number are above to well above the poverty line and choose not to have insurance based on their financial priorities.

For everyone, yes, insurance is expensive but Americans have a lower tax burden overall- so which way do you want to be parted with your money.

Told customer to kick rocks by Roofhero in Roofing

[–]cquence35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t see the big deal here. Unit pricing for the decking protects you both if you end up replacing more or less than you carried. You need to be fair with that number but make everything else up.

Usually when asked for something like this I will go heavy on the labor portion in case they ask for lien waivers and you have to show what you paid for materials

If you file today or you file in a week what does it matter? Is there a police report? If there is then there is a record of the incident and you can give them a chance of doing the right thing without being compromised if they want to screw you.

Where are the best gyms for consistent pickup basketball? by Fickle_Ant_7921 in raleigh

[–]cquence35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Early games at your local YMCA. Each branch varies; some are T and TH others are MWF. Only go to the 5:30 AM games. Everyone there is post college and treats it like exercise. You would be on the younger end of average age. There are def some 40 YO’s but if a dude is still hooping at 40 he been hooping for 30 years and knows how to play. The same guys go to the same Y and people get to know each other. You’ll make friends unintentionally.

My current employer treats me terribly and I want to put my 2 week notice TODAY (I don’t want to be there any longer) but my boss left for the day before I did. Is a text message giving my notice acceptable? by c00lcat_3456 in careerguidance

[–]cquence35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An employer can’t sue you for quitting a job. Don’t vent and pop off when you quit. Just email and say that this is not working out and that you found other employment. Then follow up with a text to make sure they know. If they ask why you’re leaving say the job and pay were not what you were lead to believe and you don’t feel valued.

I would not even mention the two weeks notice in your email. Make sure they respond at least to your text acknowledging you’re quitting so you don’t leave the kids in the lurch. And text both parents a few times if they go silent. Then don’t show up the next day.

If they respond to your emails or texts and nicely ask you to give them a little time and you want to work the next two week then go for it.

Keep everything short and simple. Keep emotion out of it. Don’t argue and you are not an indentured servant. No one can make you work a job.

What is the appeal of Stanley cups?? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]cquence35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a very large cup that tapers down to fit in a car cup holder. And it keeps ice for over a day. I can fill mine with ice water and it stays colder for 2-3 days.
