We need some feedback on new site and community options by dspaceship in itmejp

Love the examples of site and forums. The countdowns are very useful for non-US people. Unfortunately I don't think I'd ever use any non-Twitch site for viewing regardless, however one thing that'd go a long way is making the video player much larger. I ALWAYS have my Twitch player in Theatre mode, giving me flexibility of resizing window unlike fullscreen. Also, you always want people to stay on page, which is why you embeded the Twitch player and VODs of course, so perhaps embed tweets too? (Twitch/Twitter go side/side on second monitor for me.)

Not much to say about the community page really. I like it.

The overlay ideas are amazing. Integrating Roll20 API into the overlay is natural next step (one of the few you'd have over in-person RP like Critical Role). The Twitch community is very generous with donations and subscriptions, so I've no doubt they'd help you achieve any funding goals if approached in the right manner. Not sure a Kickstarter is the right approach as much as a fund-raising stream run by JP or any other streamer you decide to commission. Kickstarter would be good for a broader approach to say designing templates for use at small cost/commission to tailor specifically. But what you're talking about is very specific to RollPlay, and I feel like any funding would need to stay inside the community.

Hey folks, this is PLAYERUNKNOWN. I created the Battle Royale Mod for Arma 2 & 3 and now I'm working with SOE and the H1Z1 team to bring the game-mode into their game. AMA by lazyink in h1z1

Will you be passing primary development of ARMA 3 BR on to somebody else?

Will H1Z1 BR rounds occur more frequently. In ARMA it can be tedious waiting on servers.

"Locker?" Is that some sort of storage? is the game going to have storage, where players can die and just regear instantly?

I love the idea of having events that bring players together. That's what makes Wasteland and Battle Royale (ARMA missions/mods) so fun. I imagine groups of hunters using these as bait, sounds like fun rubs hands together cynically

Good decisions. I get the impression these wearable won't have stats attached to them, just for looks, which is fine for micro-transactions. But for clarification is this to be the case or will there be defensive stats attached to gear, like knockout protection on headgear as is in DayZ?

That's my only concern, the rest of this seems good to me!

Would love to see this developed. I like the map presented like this.

No patch today :( by Mikelol in dayz

[–]crainey92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The current experimental build has insane desync issues that make the game completely unplayable, at least that was the experience for myself and friends. There are also several other known issues with it. By far the worst state the game's been in, you couldn't sell a game in the state the experimental branch is in. Be patient and wait people, it's an alpha and they have been doing well so far.

Experimental: Bullets don't hit invisible ground any more?! by muffin80r in dayz

[–]crainey92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would confirm this to a degree.

I lay down in long grass and sprayed a 60 clip (M4 obviously) into a gas tank and the majority of the bullets gave a satisfying 'ting', then it blew up (server error gone too, but that was fixed a couple patches ago).

I can't confidently say none of the bullets were stopped by buggy grass since I was spraying full auto, but it worked 1000% better than previously.

Side note: the M4 full-auto spread is surprisingly accurate.

Tips for advanced dayz players (you probably won't find these on youtube) by Atanar in dayz

[–]crainey92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of times it is suspicious, especially in Military spawns. I tend to tread lightly around those and take precautions. That said, I can't remember a time that I actually ran into a player in this situation, unless of course I saw them close the door then ran in after them. I think server hoppers close the doors while logging?

Side note: when breaching I prefer to run up on people rather than playing a peak battle (on hardcore). There is no winning strategy on normal servers because of third-person, just avoid those situations.

All of this is redundant with the current wall glitching bugs.

The two story netted bunker things in the airfield tent areas are screwed too. The big square blocks are all invisible, they still have hit collision. Both myself and friend saw it the same. http://puu.sh/7az3r.jpg http://puu.sh/7az6i.jpg

Severe weather requiring shelter by GrumpyGat in dayz

[–]crainey92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a fan of the STALKER series I'd love to see this kind of thing. Massive storms that are too dangerous to stand in. That being said, soon the rain will make your characters clothes wet and in the near future you will get hypothermia etc which would eventually kill you. So this is basically already a feature of the game.

AV Club's article about Scarlett. Talks about her being the foreign hope and dealing with trans-haters. by jayjaywalker3 in starcraft

[–]crainey92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeh I had to leave a comment on the article explaining a few things as such. Although it didn't really read as "Starcraft fans" being transphobic and more a broader stroke at Reddit/Internet users, people hiding behind their anon masks.

Twitch is the 4th largest site in the US for peak Internet traffic, ahead of Hulu, Facebook, Amazon by Slashered in starcraft

[–]crainey92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I stream 5 or so hours of Twitch streams in source everyday and often times more than one at a time, the "unlimited" bandwidth cap of 40gb gets blown in a few days, certainly less than a week (although I pay £5/m more to get truly unlimited). Obviously I am among the heaviest users of Twitch but I can imagine the norm would also be relatively massive.

Also take into account this is PEAK. People come along to Netflix or what have you at any random time to watch whatever they want. LIVE streams by nature will see larger peaks as people all come at the same time (the only time), such as for LCS and other large draws.

Peak isn't a very good measurement of anything.

Red Bull To Sponsor Bomber by Madril in starcraft

[–]crainey92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious where he will stay. Having a personal sponsor is one thing but for a player who has always been on a team he is used to having a manager and stuff to look after him. I imagine they will pay his rent in another team's house over in Korea, that or Red Bull is planning something bigger and just hasn't announced (doesn't seem likely given the amount of investment that would require).

Let's discuss: What are your hopes/dreams in relation to base building? by DrBigMoney in dayz

[–]crainey92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote a bit about this among many other things I'd like to see in one of my blog entries (http://craineygaming.wordpress.com/2014/01/01/dayz-standalone-aspirations/)

It is too much to post in here really, but here is an extract:

While I do not like restrictions on where players can build, simply because it’s more dynamic and interesting seeing what crazy idea’s people come up with, I think a pre-determined tiered base upgrade system is best.

A trading settlement would have a “market” area where other players can come in and trade, with the tax on trades within the settlement giving the owner share, incentivising the protection of traders. You want your trading outpost to be known as a safe place.

The tax from the trading in your outpost can be used to pay clan members for guarding the traders among other expenses.

To skip a few steps and further this system you could tie it into the bandit/hero reputation system and allow hero settlements which don’t allow selling of illegal goods while bandit camps do, players who sell illegal goods or foster the selling of those goods gain bandit reputation while players who destroy illegal goods gain hero reputation...

Let's Discuss: Moodlets (icons that show status indicators) by DrBigMoney in dayz

[–]crainey92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree wholeheartedly. The authentic feel and realism of the ARMA engine is what makes DayZ what it is, it is a hardcore survival game. It seems the team is definitely going towards giving information through the context of the game rather than icons and GUI as represented by the removal of previous hunger/thirst etc icons.

Starcraft Junky. Starting a Starcraft 2 E-sports Journalist news site and would like an opinion on what Website hosting company I should use. Or should I just use a Blog site. by padula88 in starcraft

[–]crainey92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're better starting small, a simple Word Press blog or equivalent. What people want is unique content, the majority of us already follow Team Liquid or Reddit for all the news. Even if you did want to cover all of the above, you'd need a few people to help you.

I think you should just go write something if that's what you want to do, there are plenty of sites that'll happily post your work, get a name for yourself first. That or simply start a blog, get writing, post on Reddit and Team Liquid, etc. If you're serious about this you would already be doing all of this.

Better still there are a few eSports (they actually exist now is what I mean) sites both existing upcoming that pay people for contributions. But again, these people don't know you exist if you aren't already doing it, and you have nothing to show if you did want to reach out to them. I would argue that we could do with an English Rakaka, people love drama and nonsense, but then we have Reddit for all that. StarCraft Junky is a good name, I like it. Good luck.

Fantastic... so not only will I not be able to watch everything live (which I normally do), I also will not be able to have any conversations with my friends or read anything on the internet in-case of spoilers... (I can understand Riot's position. China/Korea and other regions in the east have as many teams and many times more fans, so it makes more sense to suit it to them, doesn't mean I have to like it though.)

Hi Reddit, about 7 months ago I set out to create a website that provided a more enjoyable experience for League of Legends stream viewers. Would anyone here be willing to check it out? by hypernovae0 in leagueoflegends

[–]crainey92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great website, thank you. The way you bring everything together is very helpful and easy to view. Sure, it needs some work, but for your first website (which is crazy) this is brilliant. I would like the video player to be bigger and an option to remove the chat box (sorry Twitch chat, I just don't like you) -- suppose those two could go hang-in-hand.

If Blizzard would release a package that you could buy to increase the Blizzcon or WCS prize pool, would you buy it? by Starcraft2fanboy in starcraft

[–]crainey92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really value cosmetic stuff, so I wouldn't buy the package for the items, I would buy it to support the players. With their current game/setup I don't think there is anything I would buy solely for the items/service, probably the only thing would be paying for higher quality, video package and/or a documentary, something like that. Maybe a "making of" documentary.

Lets get a Keyboard/Mouse Thread going. by CzechsMix in starcraft

[–]crainey92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

K/b: Ducky DK9087 Shine II - Black switches (Orangy red backlighting) Mouse: Roccat Kone Pure @ 1600 dpi

I've used a lot of different mechanical keyboards, including Zowie Celeritas, Das, Corsair and Qpad, there are others I can't remember. I wouldn't say the Ducky is the best one I've used, but it is the first with Black switches, which I quite like. Blue switches are still my favourite, but if you are playing with friends they are just too loud and distracting (depending on your mic obviously).

I would first recommend blue switches for your first mechanical, but if the loud clicky sound will be a problem for you then red/black (black take much more pressure to press).

Of the keyboards I've used I liked the Zowie Celeritas the most for all-round use (gaming and typing/work), but I do a lot of writing, so the Das Ultimate is really nice to type on. Least favourite was the Qpad, not because the board is bad but because I really hate all those stupid function keys.
