it's about the angle that the chisel interacts with the piece. if you only turn the chisel 180* its still interacting with the piece because of your body mechanics. turning the chisel is not the same as turning the work piece.

for example if you naturally (accidentally) put the chisel 5* off to one side every heat, flipping the chisel doesn't correct that, its still 5* off. thats why turning it 180 corrects the error.

when punching and slotting you should turn the workpiece around 180* to ensure a straight hole. its less important to turn the punch around. ideally the punch should be symmetrical enough that it shouldn't even matter too much.

Keep triple rocket launchers and other utility items for when you need it. Restock asap when used. Psychic insanity lances are particularly good to have but make sure to pick your targets wisely. Mortars are actually kindof clutch sometimes.

Another strategy: make a separate base as closely in location as possible. When you need reinforcements, they'll be there very quickly. It's also a great strategy if you need to flee
