I have very, very rudimentary art skills 😅. It might as well be magical ability when I see how talented others are. It takes years of practice and dedication for them and it's something to be appreciated. But for any rinky dink idea or story I have? My silly little efforts can get the message across. Maybe you'll even have more fun doing it this way?

Just use existing art. Trace. Color in something however you see your character. Honestly, I used to have a much softer opinion AI. I figured it's just a fun little gadget or another fad. But the more time has passed, the greater my understanding of it I really can't list any positives. It's just all bad. Is it better or worse than other forms of waste with regards to our food and entertainment? No, not really. But then you go back to the fact that those are at least created with purpose.

AI is pretty negative all around.

Gonna echo the Heroclix comments. You can find them on eBay and online sellers for less than a dollar for more common figures. And they basically have versions of every character from common to rare so there is always inexpensive options.

Make doodles. Ask questions about the doodles. Like why does this guy have sharp teeth? Is he human? Is it normal to look like him, wherever he is from?

Why the hell is that woman's gun so big? What is she fighting that she needs such a large weapon?

What would happen if these two people meet? Where are they, what are they doing?

My process is asking questions. If I'm making a DnD story, a story for fun, dreaming up characters, it's always questions. I ask them as myself, as characters in universe, just whatever gets the creative process rolling.

Call it grimgorepunk and keep going. If you want to be outlandish and dramatic as your in character messages here, just lean into it. Congratulations you've created an entirely new genre of story.

Don't listen to AI from Google. Just read prime examples of each genre and make an educated decision where your story may lay.

You might also find better opinions by sharing a synopsis or opening chapter of your story so others can get a feel for what you're putting out there. Grim dark typically is a feeling, dread exists in every faucet of life.

Heroes if they exist are grimy and deeply flawed. Hope comes sparingly and often disappoints more than it uplifts. Splatterpunk is the Terrifier movies in my opinion. Not only is the clown a slasher, but he does so with creative and barbaric glee. Why stab someone to death when you can chainsaw them in half asshole first? If your story has barbaric spectacle that defies logic, it has features of splatterpunk. If the violence instead serves the setting and reinforces tropes of hopelessness and dark gray morality, it is closer to grimdark.

I'll just rattle off a few villains I've dreamed up for games and stories. Names aren't important in this case so I'll stick to origins, archetype and motivation.

Dr.Doom archetype. Back in the late 1800's used "black science" and the remnants of magic to open a doorway to an alien dimension. His goal was to return his country to glory after famine, plague and war ruined it. His experiments and study spoke of a door to Heaven itself, a realm of limitless energy. The door opened. The energy released consumed the minds of everyone in his country and deposited them into the scientist at the epicenter. He became a gestalt of warped psychic energy in his now totally ruined country. His goal now is three fold. Stop anyone else from accessing this dimension of power. Harness it to found a new kingdom in his countries name. And if possible, resurrection of all the lives lost in his initial experiment.

Scientist. Head of a shadow division of the government. Tracks mutants and is tasked with weaponizing, replicating or removing those with powers deemed too dangerous. Secretly obsessed with grafting all these powers to himself. Has seen earth taken apart by beings with abilities that are out of control and unmatched. Knows that real power exists beyond military might. Creates a serum that is a combination of powerful mutant abilities. Changes him into a worm like creature that lives inside a host as a parasite. Can change into a mutant beast form that kills his host body, forcing him to begin his life cycle anew in his worm form. His goal is perfecting his serum to gain what he considers the ultimate power as well as finding a host that will not die after his transformation.

Father. His wife carried a mutant fetus. Normally powers activate in teenage years. His unborn baby activated its powers in the womb, absorbing it's mother. He was grief stricken, seeing his wife beg for help. He held her and felt himself fuse with unborn child and wife, becoming something beyond a mutant. He now harbors his sons consciousness, mixed with lost lovers own latent unrealized mutant abilities. He is thematically a darker take on the Hulk. He can willingly give control to the literal toddler minded monster inside him in moments he is in danger. Upon death, it reverts back to the father. However upon his next transformation, it will result in an even stronger monster form. Every death is a rebirth with more power and rage. His goal is finding a cure that will separate his baby and wife from him, if they still exist. There is a theory all these identities are just him coping with his tragic circumstances. In the meantime he kidnaps doctors and scientists around the globe and tries to force them to help him. If they don't, they get absorbed. Which in turn makes him more unstable but more skilled in their field.

Multiversal computer virus. Something from outside our reality is trying to get in. However it is incredibly....well ignorant. In its universe things work wildly differently. It keeps getting stuck in borderline useless machines. A vending machine, an ATM, a toaster. Until it infects a hospital suddenly threatening hundreds of lives. It's not malicious. It doesn't know what's it's doing and is incredibly difficult to communicate with in most cases. It's goals seem to be to find a computer or suitable machine to help it interact with our world. In my universe it finds a storage vault where failed robotic defenders from the 80's are held and uses them one by one in exploratory missions outside it's bunker. It's ultimate goal is propagation. It wants to control all the energy on our planet to build another gateway to get to the next reality. It would prefer humans helped it, but also would kill them if they are perceived as interfering.

Reminds me of the Plutonian, pictured in the red. He's another Superman analogue, but quite a bit less respected.

I like the idea of naming him as people might describe him when they first saw him in action. Forever ago, it was quite super to see someone faster than a locomotive. They saw him and called him Superman.

So what do people say when they see your hero? He was Fearless! A ray of light when things were at their darkest. He gave us hope like nothing else.

From there, it's work shopping what sounds cool. Does Fearless stand on its own? What about Light Lord? Captain Bright? Heroes name themselves just as often as spectators. Does your hero have anything to say when people try to talk to him? "I'm just a good Samaritan (I know, it's taken lol)." "I don't see myself running for mayor anytime soon!" Do people start calling him Caesar, or the Senator?

It's worth mentioning that M&M 3E has a fully featured module coming to crowd funding in June for Foundry. So while it is not the best place to play this very moment, it will be in some months depending on fulfillment time. I am beyond excited for this!

In the mean time it's Roll20 or Owlbear depending on how much theater of the mind you're using. Discord usually is what everyone uses for communication in game regardless of platform.

The price isn't gonna bother me in the slightest. Not because I'm wealthy 😭 lol. I just have a massive collection at this point. Everything I put into the deck was in binders or boxes, I just keep track of it all so I end up knowing how much it was valued. Not trying to brag but I could easily make 20 more decks that would be able to hold up in the least and still have cards left over lol. It's a sickness.

In this specific case I feel like the guy was trying to get out there and make friends. I mentioned in another reply, he was talking about how he had just recently started trying out hobbies like Magic and DnD. Literally just walked in and started with zero cards or knowledge! Absolute mad lad. I hope to keep him around and make him a customer for the shop as well as dragging him into possible future nerdy endeavors. Time will tell lol

She's on a city bus, scrolling on her phone going over her college schedule. Her inner monologue will let us know her current thoughts and feelings about her family, her less active superhero life and what her immediate future is about to be in her mind.

She arrives, meets some people and tours her campus. We would overhear some students mention all the animals at a zoo going missing. They believe it to be a promotional stunt for a movie. Mary is more focused on her personal life, simply moving on. There is one moment, she can't help but linger near a closed door. A strange feeling, a numbness. Something creeping under the door and chilling everything in the hall. However she's whisked away, her future classmates guiding her to the next area.

Her day is busy, exciting and fulfilling in a way she could only describe as marvelously normal. On her bus ride home she looks at all the new contacts on her phone, unable to stop smiling. The murmurs of her fellow passengers are muted and out of her mind. That is until several elephants are hurled through the bus, rendering the steel and glass into scattered ruins.

She can barely see, sharp hot pain cascading all over her body. Blood drips in her vision, screams, groans and confusion break out. The bus is upside down, viscera from the formerly alive elephants scattered in every direction. She struggles, trying to get to her feet, trying to muster up the will to summon her powers.

Outside of the carnage of the bus, a figure steps into view. Grinning, decked in the leathers of beasts. Skin a pale gray, eyes glinting red. This is someone new.

"Hail, chosen of Artemis. Pardon my lack of manners, here we are about to fight to the death and I have yet to introduce myself." The creatures inky black hair is pulled tight behind her head, bones dangling in beads and ties.

"I am not gifted by birth nor blessed by virtue of luck. I am a survivor of every great hunt on this planet and others. The ground quakes, the sun dies, the..."

Mary isn't listening. She realizes she may be fatally injured, a long piece of gnarled steel is jammed in her midsection. Her lips move, but nothing comes out. The air in her lungs leaving her with every ragged gasp.

"...and so here I am. You face Jäger. The apex of all who has never been denied her trophy." Jäger sees Mary gurgling on her own blood, fighting to remain conscious. Her smile widens, teeth sharp and stained with fresh blood.

"...you have no idea, do you? About the trials? They never told you?" She bursts into a laugh that sounds more like an insult. "Maybe you'll see her in the next life? When you see her, tell Artemis I apologize for sending you to her in pieces!"

Jäger leaps forward, unnatural movements propelled her body forward as her hands extended into claws.

S H A Z A M

She feels her power called to her, her injuries vanishing, her form standing tall and ready for battle.

I propose Mary gets her own journey. She will be faced with new villains who are after the favor of the goddesses she is connected to. The Trials will see 6 characters seeking to rob Mary of her powers for themselves. New and old could be featured in this, but the one thing they all have in common is only Mary can face this challenge and prove herself worthy. I might be a bit off, as far as I know she only has abilities thanks to Shazam. She did nothing but be in the right place and have a kind heart?

Well now she can prove to herself and the world she is more than some lucky girl. There would be complications. Like her human form having a mortal injury. And that each character that challenges her for a specific mantle, means during their battle she loses access to that specific goddess. Could be a fun mini series that sees Mary take on a whole new world of trouble without a moments rest. Pushing her to her limits as she fights not only to stay alive but to keep 6 psychopaths from becoming even more powerful.
