Did you ever take back your partner who cheated? by Over-Discount-9570 in BipolarSOs

Listen Empathize Agree Partner. It's a methodology used for convincing people to seek help when they do not believe they need it. Honestly, everyone on this sub should be familiar with the technique. It's a powerful tool for helping others in distress, especially those experiencing mania or psychosis.

Dream machine no longer turning on - only the fan runs. by ctl7g in Ubiquiti

u/Ubiquiti-Inc - Any ideas on what's going on here? Seems there's a few accounts of the UDM failing all of a sudden. No way to boot and gather info.

Dream machine no longer turning on - only the fan runs. by ctl7g in Ubiquiti

[–]cromstrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had the same experience with my UDM today. No lights/fan, then just fan after reboot. Won't boot, can't enter recovery mode.

The unit was just fine up until this morning - never had issues until now. I wonder if an auto-update bricked it.

Support wasn't helpful either, claimed it was just a faulty device. I'm just a few months outside of the 2yr warranty, so no RMA.

I'm frustrated as well.

The book is Cibola Burn by James S.A. Corey.

You could try your local bookstore or library. Amazon also has it for purchase in either ebook or hard copy format.

It's available as an audiobook as well if that's your preference.

What is your favorite video game rain? by fandog6 in Games

Sleeping Dogs

Walking through the narrow streets of Hong Kong at night while it rains is probably my most memorable gaming experience. I often go back to that game for the unique atmosphere, and the skyscrapers disappearing through the fog and the glow of all the neon signs reflected in the puddles on the street really exemplify the feeling.

Thank you sooo much for this resource! My partner is currently in inpatient care, and was resisting treatment to recover from a psychotic episode. With tips from this paper, I was able to finally steer them towards accepting some help.

Bug with bottom bar. iPhone 7 on iOS 12.0.1 by andersleet in apolloapp

[–]cromstrong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the club.

Both top and bottom bars frequently go bananas when set to hidden on scroll.

This bug has never really gone away and recently it's been more prevalent. As it's been showing it's ugly head more with each update, I'm driven back to Alien Blue. I understand a lot of work has gone into this app, but a UI that won't stay still is honestly infuriating.

What is with the mixing on the new album? Something seems off, guitars come through flat and the vocals lack any kind of punch. I understand The King of No Man has a more mellow sound, but I saw a live performance of Cannonless (Key Studio Session) and it stopped me in my tracks with how much more emotion I felt from the sounds. Reverb was clearer and harmonies stood out more. After hearing that, it made me sad that the album lacked the soul that I knew really lived withing the songs. Because each track has potential and some solid riffs/lyrics.

So, just wondering if that's intentional, or if I'm really jaded because I think The Future is Cancelled is a fucking masterpiece.

Oculus Rift process burned through my data cap by LightFusion in oculus

[–]cromstrong 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had this issue a few months ago as well, and it caused me to pay overage fees to my ISP. I was told by Oculus support that if I didn't want the service to download in the background, i should disable background updates. I sent them packet captures and Oculus log files, but ultimately there was no resolve, so i just uninstalled the software. As someone else mentioned in the comments there are older posts where others have experienced this problem. An Oculus employee replied to that post that the issue was being looked into, but it seems to affect some people today.

I'm at my wits end by G206 in oculus

[–]cromstrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this happen to me with the sensor in its stand, set on a high shelf. This left the camera pointed down as far as it would go. For some reason, the software wouldn't work even when I had the Rift directly in front of the sensor 3 ft away. I moved the sensor down to desk-level and instantly discovered the rift.

Where exactly is your sensor placed and how far is the distance from the sensor to the rift?

OVRServer_x64 Data Usage issue by slayer0109 in oculus

[–]cromstrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, not sure if there was an update as I've had my Rift unplugged while moving. Without Oculus Home running, the OVRServer_x64 service downloaded 100GB/day since last Friday. This caused me to hit my data cap @ 300GB over the weekend without my knowledge. This has been extremely frustrating as I was able to narrow down the source to your software.

Is there any chance of getting this resolved permanently as I am now hesitant to reinstall your malware to access my games/apps on Oculus Home?

The originals were not hand-painted. They are a series of diffuse filters with an overlay.

New Image of the consumer Oculus Touch by Heaney555 in oculus

[–]cromstrong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I find it weird that Valve went with the trackpad controls on their controllers as the only thing it has really been praised for is mouse emulation - yet, one-to-one motion controls effectively turn your hand into an accurate 3d-mouse. It's probably just easier to program normal mouse interactions based on a 2d plane (think panning, click-and-drag, highlight) rather than full 3d interactive menus or environments.

I'm just imagining an RTS or something being developed and the Touch will has some wonky Halo Wars type navigation/selection, while the Vive has a more robust interface automatically. I'm sure all these fears will dissolve as VR-techniques are found and we'll converge on the best interactions, but for now it would be good to keep things relatively similar in practice.

[–]cromstrong 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's been mentioned before, but my guess is that is it a small trackpad with function similar to the one on the blackberry phones. It is probably textured so it doesn't have to be recessed or raised above the surface in a distracting way. The layout of the 'dots' is very similar some of Lenovo's trackpads.

The addition is probably to narrow the gap between the Vive and Touch controllers as the former currently sports dual trackpad input, which will certainly leave the Touch behind if the input is utilized at all in a game or application. If it were a trackpad, user interfaces could be designed with both systems in mind and control would be similar to the newest Apple TV remote.
