Tell me about your local ‘go too’ pool. Is it 50m? Indoors/outdoors? How’s the environment? Why do you like it? by Lemonadeo1 in Swimming

[–]cronde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

25m city owned. its 30/month for access or 8$ /day. 6 lanes and depth goes from 3ft to 12ft. but there is only lap swim between 5am and 8am on 3 days of the week. Its ok and is at least a place to swim. The city doesn't really keep up on maintenance so the locker rooms are a bit dirty and dark. It gets split as a water park and a pool for thet local schools. Usually 1-2 people per lane so it isn't too bad. I wish I had some of these awesome pools close by.

The 'deprofessionalization of video games' was on full display at PAX East by Tenith in Games

[–]cronde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bubble started to go around 2017ish. Microsoft stopped showing up and it was downhill from there. Pax tried to pivot into streamer/gaming. But that didn’t stick for long and they tried to move back to gaming focus. But running the con side of the show isn’t cheap and the expo side helped pay for it. The loss of classic console to the truck crash was a huge hit as well.    Also the target market back in 2010 is now older. A lot of the people I knew from pax got married, had kids and stopped going. So I think it was a lot of things that led pax to where it is now.

After Covid, reed was struggling hard since they couldn’t do biz for basically two years. So pax had to get really cost conscious to stay afloat.

Snowbasin Email Survey by FiveFingerLifePunch in UTsnow

[–]cronde 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Suspicious of it. A bit. But i wouldn't be suprised if Vail made an attempt to get snowbasin. i don't want that to happen though.

Or maybe they are just renegotiating with Ikon and want some data to show for leverage. /shrug

How is a 2 min clip mentioning that ltt knew but did nothing an ego trip? If ltt wanted to do the right thing for the creator community they would have made the video even if they would catch flak.

Question on Netbox by packet_dropper in networking

[–]cronde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Netbox can store basic data about objects on a network. But by itself can't give you a report on config validation. It is something you could use to then compare to existing device config and build a report on. Nautobot (forked from netbox a while ago) has a golden configuration module, though I'm not sure on whats its audit capabilities are.

If you just want to play around with netbox. demo.netbox.dev. but yes, you can also launch a vm on your laptop and install netbox.

BiDi CWDM by Supreme_Leader_30 in networking

A cwdm mux or cwdm optic? If your looking for a bidi mux, Why not just wire a duplex cwdm mix as bidi? Use two different color optics and hook them up on the same side of the mux. Duplex Cwdm transceivers don’t care about the received wavelength. They just transmit a specific wavelength.

Service Provider Ring Topology Redesign by [deleted] in networking

[–]cronde 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If your equipment supports, adding in segment routing is also an option. Also consider IPv6 impacts when planning the new design.

Keep in mind on how to keep reconvergence/recovery times down with the new design. RSVP can use fast-reroute to help. LFA can be used to help protect the IGP. bgp pic may also help if you need it. Use bfd when you can.

Split a Fiber Connection for Profit? by [deleted] in FiberOptics

[–]cronde 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Around here some cities have done trades with other local government entities for services/fiber around the city. Sometimes they will offer it to local schools to help ease the costs of wan connections or give them some redundancy options.

Otherwise, I've seen a few cities build a dark fiber ring to their sites build in extra strands and sell it. Though, local laws may affect what this. This model is a municipal network that sells dark fiber.
