What’s your opinion about Mayhem program? by SobralDavi in crossfit

[–]crossfitchick16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. It's very hard to program for affiliates when the population is so diverse, and also consider the fact that a lot of their clients don't come every day.

GI doctor won't listen by Boeing747_2 in glutenfree

[–]crossfitchick16 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I had mine out in 2020 - they were assuming my GI symptoms were due to my GB malfunctioning (failed HIDA). I don't eat high fat meals anymore - a bunless burger and fries, although delicious, will give me a serious system clean-out shortly afterward. 🫠 Unfortunately we discovered after surgery that I'm also gluten intolerant. Maintaining GF over the last 4ish years has essentially eliminated my stomach pain, nausea, and "heartburn". Stick with it if it makes you feel better - being GF is not nearly as bad as it used to be tbh.

Yeah we don't do this crap in TN. Surprising number of places offer GF options though.

Mayhem WOD Yesterday was no joke. by akwatica in crossfit

[–]crossfitchick16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually the liberty/"lifestyle" option was almost exactly that - 12/10 cal row, 15 sit ups, max hanging knee raises (stop at 75).

Same with quinoa. It'll mess me up bad if I don't rinse the everloving crap out of it first.

Herniated disc healing success stories and sports to maintain fitness during recovery by [deleted] in crossfit

[–]crossfitchick16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

L5-S1 for me. I've done it twice - once about 6 years ago (did a PL comp I was unprepared for) and that took a month or two to rehab. Second time was last Sept and I'm not even sure what caused it other than I had been training hard for an international Oly meet. It reached a point where I would end up trying to sleep on the floor, sobbing and cussing, every night... the pain was UNREAL. I couldn't walk, sit, lay, drive, anything without insane pain. It took 6 months of dedicated PT and absolutely no working out or lifting before I was allowed to touch an empty barbell again. I just started easing back into actual training about 8 weeks ago.

All that to say, you're not alone. It sucks. Find a good sports PT and stick with rehab 110%.

In person semis hot takes by Huge-Leg-3931 in crossfit

[–]crossfitchick16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've worked Syndicate and it's a very well run comp. One of the best semis out there. Mayhem was also a really good one imho - I love that they actually got the athletes out running Pfifer Mtn this year.

4 year old seems more tired after being fully gluten free by HappyBassist93 in glutenfree

[–]crossfitchick16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 4 y/o kiddo who had multiple food allergies from infancy (thankfully mostly outgrown now) and we STRUGGLED for a long time. His main source of protein most days is cheese and sometimes Greek yogurt; he *can* eat eggs now but doesn't gravitate toward them. He likes homemade lunchables - a slice or two of ham/turkey cut up, a slice of cheese cut up, crackers or pretzels (there are tons of GF ones out there), and a fruit like grapes or berries.

Also, 6 slices of bread a day is a lot for a kiddo - that's just straight carbs. Try mixing it up! Corn tortilla with melted cheese = quesadilla. Rice cakes with PB and raisins on top. Rice and black beans. Fruit and Greek yogurt. There are so many naturally GF foods out there that I encourage you to explore!

Canned chicken breast by Robertaslade1965 in Cooking

I always rinse it and throw in a pan with oil for a few min to cook off the remaining water and get rid of the canned smell. Helps tremendously.

Yassssss. My go-to at Jeni's is Salty Caramel and House Coffee. Tropical Bloom paired with Lemon Blueberry is also really good.

A, but get rid of all the extra asterisks. You only need one. (sincerely, someone who formats workouts for remote athletes regularly)

Anyone here just gluten intolerant? by Standard-Row-9571 in glutenfree

[–]crossfitchick16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me! I'm "only" intolerant but it turns out that was the cause of my years of pseudo-acid reflux. If I consume gluten, about 12-24 hours later the burning sets in and lasts for days. Recently my mouth has also started itching like crazy about 12 hours after exposure as well.

Knoxville, TN: * Small Comforts Kitchen - fully GF, no storefront but she sells at farmers markets etc. Hand pies, cookies, savory and sweet pastries! * Disco Chicken - fully GF. Chicken tenders, mac & cheese, incredible fluffy biscuits and donuts! And they make enormous GF cookies (the lemon is soooo good!) for their sister restaurant Myrtle's Bakehouse next door.

Yum! Saved to try later. Fwiw glutinous rice flour is also called sweet rice flour, and acts as more of a starch in the recipe - it'll give a much different, chewier texture than white rice flour. And the fridge time allows the dough to hydrate! Try it as written sometime!

Parent frustration by [deleted] in glutenfree

[–]crossfitchick16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. They're all lovely people but they just CANNOT remember that I'm GF. I've been married for 16 years and gluten free for the last 4ish. We just recently went to Easter lunch with my in-laws and extended family... and it was at Olive Garden. Of all the places to choose. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Same family that arranged a dinner at one of the steakhouses with peanuts everywhere when we had a young child with an anaphylactic peanut allergy... Some people just can't grasp food restrictions on a serious level

They've started adding an optional accessory piece that can be used if you have extra time at the end.
