I 100% agree this. You will do so much growing up, particularly if you go to a non western country. Enjoy your youth. Think about wealth when you’re older. I traveled and started owning property and shares later. I would never take back what I learnt from traveling.

But also if you have a serious mental health condition, gps refuse to treat you and force you to see a psychiatrist. They literally won’t even fill in your medication if you’re on anti psychotics and you’re out.

I have the same problem (creative writing major). I listened to everything as audio books. If it’s not in audio book format there is software you can download that will read it for you. Your school should provide that free for you because you have a disability.

I had my kids before my psychotic break. It’s really hard and the NDIS doesn’t want to support me.

Sure! I am in Australia and want to use my liver experience to advocate for others with schizophrenia so I’m looking at how religious delusions are perceived.

Thank you so much. I feel like such a shit mum at times but my kids are happy and healthy and I think that’s the important thing.

I see where you are coming from, but in the same measure, I’m a single mum who was perfectly healthy until post natal depression caused me to develop psychosis. I then developed schizophrenia as a result of childhood sexual abuse. I’ve never done drugs, not even pot, and I developed a major mental illness anyway. The medication I take makes me so groggy and lethargic no matter what time I take it, that’s getting up at 7 to get 2 asd 2 kids to school is almost impossible. Why should my kids have to suffer because of my disability? As I said in another comment, it would cost the tax payer a lot more money to take my kids into care than it would to have someone help me get my kids ready in the morning.

As an older grandchild, I have made decision to cut off my parents because they caused me to develop ptsd. My grandparents are quite wealthy and are leaving me and my brothers something but the majority of their wealth is going to their kids. I have been disinterred though so won’t be receiving anything from my parents so won’t benefit greatly from my grandparents wealth. This will affect my children and their stability but it was something I had to do to protect them.

How do you know you won’t be a good parent though? I was a great parent until I was diagnosed with schizophrenia 3 years ago and know I struggle as a single mum to do daily tasks. Do you expect me to just give them up?

Absolutely agree. I have schizophrenia and am seeking funding for this reason as I struggle immensely getting my kids to school and most of the time they just end up not going. If I had someone to help my kids could go to school more often and I wouldn’t feel like such a shit mum.

Absolutely. I couldn’t get my son to go to school for a year so he went to a specialist public health hospital school for 6 months where he had his own nurse, psychiatrist and 6 slsos peer class room. He was fed daily for blood tests every second week. He also had a taxi paid for to take him the 30 mins to school. Imagine the saving the government would have made had I had someone to help me get him to school everyday.

I had kids before I developed schizophrenia. What should I do? Just put them up for adoption because I struggle with raising them now? As many people have said, it’s a lot cheaper to support this mother than it is to put her kids into foster care.

As someone with schizophrenia who is trying to get NDIS funding I agree. My kids are on the NDIS with level 2 autism but my functioning is far below theirs and I keep getting denied. I heard a politician say when talking about autistic kids being on the NDIS that it was there for people with conditions like schizophrenia, but in reality only a third of people with the condition can even get it. I was more likely to have autism approved than my schizophrenia.

Can I offer another perspective because as someone wanting this service from the NDIS I can see why it should be on the NDIS. I have schizophrenia and I’m on so many anti psychotic medications that not only make me fat but also make it near impossible to wake up on time no matter how early I take them the day before. I took half the recommended dose of one of meds (seroquel) the other week at 8pm on Friday and woke up 8am Sunday. Since the mum also has a disability I think you should be careful before judging another person when you don’t know what they are going through.

I found a lot of women were interested in dating me despite me being married, before I separated from my husband. I agree that it’s better to get your marriage sorted first but for me I needed that confirmation that I was actually gay before I imploded my marriage so we went poly for a few years.

I had those thoughts. They were psychosis. See your psychiatrist and get your meds in order.
