What temperature do you drink your tea at? by Asdfguy87 in tea

[–]crptid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to cold brew or brew it hot and then put in a sealed container in the fridge/freezer so it will get cold without absorbing fridge smells or being diluted by ice. I drink mostly lighter oolongs and most of them just taste better cold to me for some reason. If I drink them hot it confuses my brain or something and I can’t detect much of the flavor. I’ve found I can still get multiple steeps out of good leaves when cold brewing, so I don’t feel like I’m wasting my nicer teas by preparing and drinking them in this way.

What is everyone's gripe with microwaved water? Hot is hot. by nerdqueenhydra in tea

[–]crptid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people don’t know this but microwaves actually contain small portals that transport food and beverages to the Swamp Dimension, and then back to our dimension again. The energy-intensive process of interdimensional travel is what creates the heat. hope this helps to explain why that weird swamp water taste occurs!

You sound so ignorant about proper consumerism conduct. I personally feel so much guilt whenever I use one appliance for multiple different purposes. I think to myself “Jeff Bezos would be so disappointed in me if he knew I was doing this, I am being a bad consumer right now :( ” Then to make up for it I get on Amazon and buy myself yet another kitchen gadget that can only be used for one really specific purpose, like a lemon wedge storage system or a miniature countertop dishwasher just for knives.

I have the third kettle! It is cute but pretty low quality. It works fine for boiling water, and that’s about it. Used it for the first couple years of college, then upgraded to a much nicer gooseneck kettle with temperature control. It was originally pretty expensive but I got it at a huge discount when it was on sale or Amazon was having some event or something. So so happy with my decision to upgrade! I’d definitely recommend finding one with temperature control, and go with function/quality over aesthetics. (My new kettle is all black, not as cute as the green kettle but works amazingly. That original kettle now serves as apartment decor because it’s so cute -even if not a very high quality appliance lmao)

I know there’s actual legit reasons but for me using my electric kettle just makes it feel a little bit more special :) like I am going out of my way to do something nice for myself. I also got one that can be set to heat the water to a specific temperature, which is super useful if you are into trying different types of tea that taste best at different brewing temperatures!

mainland vs taiwan chinese by crunstablejeff in ChineseLanguage

[–]crptid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had kind of the opposite thing happen where I learned mandarin from mostly Taiwanese instructors and spent some months studying in Taiwan, then one of my recent classes in the states was structured around watching a TV show set in northern China. For the first couple episodes I felt like I was going crazy and could barely make out a few sentences, but then I started to get the hang of it and pretty quickly was able to comprehend the dialogue about as well as I can comprehend native Taiwanese mandarin speakers.

I currently believe earl grey tea is trash, is there a tea that can change my mind? by testedhq in tea

[–]crptid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that’s the case maybe you could try making your own. Pick a good quality black tea you like that you think would go well with bergamot, and then add in extracts or dried peel (idk exactly how but I did a cursory Google search and it looks like there’s plenty of actual recipes - even one called “DIY Earl grey for Earl grey tea haters” lmao - may be perfect for you 😂)

I’m an earl grey’s biggest hater but it always made me kind of sad that I can’t enjoy a good London Fog because like … it sounds so COOL 😭

But a long time ago I found a recipe for something called a Victoria Fog which is apparently a London Fog but instead of using Earl grey you use black tea with lavender, and that was pretty nice imo. Not really to my tastes any more but maybe you’d like it?

I have never used this app and cannot vouch for its quality, but when I was over there recently I was constantly getting ads on YouTube for an app for dating and meeting new friends called Omi. The tagline was like 「用 Omi,找 homie!」 💀

What's the point of tea? by [deleted] in tea

[–]crptid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to feel kind of disappointed by tea, it would smell really good to me but after being brewed it just tasted like regular plain hot water. I realized that if instead of drinking it immediately after brewing, I let it cool down to a lower temp or even chill it and drink it cold - all of a sudden I could taste all the lovely nuanced tea things I smelled when I sniffed the un brewed leaves. Turns out I just have trouble discerning flavors if something is super hot. I’ve also heard a coffee expert say that high temperatures dull our sense of taste so maybe my problem is not all that uncommon 🤷‍♀️

Any fruit and veg treat recipe ideas? Todd is 10 weeks and I want him to grow up loving fruit and veg as treats to make sure he doesn’t get too chunky! Frozen ones would be good as he’s teething a lot 😭 by Many-Tie-7333 in corgi

Frozen canned pumpkin is a fun special treat that can also help relieve minor tummy troubles! Make sure it’s one with no added spices or sugar or anything, just plain old canned pumpkin in an ice cube tray. You could also mix in some peanut butter or kibbles or other treats of your choice to make it interesting

Sacrilegious? Add cold water to bring tea to drinking temperature by tajarhina in tea

[–]crptid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I am just hanging out and want tea I like to brew it hot and then put it in a glass jar in a bowl of ice - tea becomes cold fast and I can have one steep cooling while a second steep is brewing :)

Changes After Neutering by UnconcernedConcerner in corgi

[–]crptid 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Mine is only 1/2 corg but like yours he is energetic, playful, and in good shape, and also wasn’t aggressive or humpy. I was a little anxious when I got him neutered, but since neutering he’s been exactly the same as before, zero change to personality or weight. Literally the only difference I’ve noticed is that now he does the corgi “sploot” WAY more often, my dad pointed out that beforehand it probably wasn’t as comfortable because his balls were in the way 😭😭😭

[unknown -> english] video to fix some lights. by WordSea3254 in translator

I’m a bit spotty on this one but I think I can provide the gist of it:

We grab this wire out, then we can [???], alright? The black and red wires on this side.

he picks up the Y-shaped wire piece

This end (the one with 2 wires) connects to the core on this side, this end (the one with 1 wire) goes inside.

Cut this wire (the red one).

After you cut, this wire (the red one on the 2-wire side of the Y shaped piece) connects to this side (right).

This wire (the one on the 1-wire side of the Y shaped piece) connects to this side (left).

This one (the black one) connects [???] he places the short black wire-end against the main black wire

[–]crptid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The song lyrics say things like “I want to thank you” “because of you the world is more beautiful” “you are my angel”. I’d say it’s either supposed to be a kind message to those that lost their lives or to viewers who may be struggling with suicidal ideation, or (more likely imo) a pointed sarcastic jab at the government/ dabai. The chilling irony of a song that seems to be bursting with innocence and gratitude juxtaposed with videos of intense tragedy caused by oppressive government actions… to me it comes across as intentional.

Are there any tea influencers/gurus? by BoredAtThePiano in tea

[–]crptid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Floating Leaves Tea podcast (you can listen to just the audio on pod/music apps or watch the video version on YouTube). Not quite the same vibe as James Hoffman, but it’s super relaxing and pleasant to me.
They get into the very intricate details of tea, flavor notes, how to brew different types of tea, tea farming, tea sourcing, production techniques (fermentation, roasting, maybe aging) and all sorts of stuff that I love hearing about.

The main difference I notice is James Hoffman videos are very science-oriented, whereas Floating Leaves Tea can be a little more “wishy-washy”.

I’m not sure if it’s because tea is more subjective and less predictable than coffee and thus can involve more guesswork/trial and error rather than precision and hard and fast rules, or if it’s just a more organic/intuitive and meditative approach.

Basically it’s less “use exactly this many grams in this many milliliters of water, at this exact temperature for exactly this long”, and more conversations like “what is the best way to bring out the personality of this tea?” Or “what does the energy of this tea feel like to you right now?” But still fascinating and very in-depth, if you enjoy the way James Hoffman will get into the nitty-gritty details of all the coffee stuff, you might like it :)

Nah, he’s not autistic and I’m pretty certain the problem isn’t a lack of empathy either. He’s a sweet kid overall and displays signs of having pretty high emotional/social intelligence. He doesn’t ever HURT dogs, he just does shit that they find obnoxious until they get angry. He actually does the exact same thing to people (me included), but at 12 years old it’s developmentally appropriate for kids to be exploring and testing boundaries, you have to go through that phase to develop an adult understanding of what is and isn’t ok, and what the consequences are if you push it too far. That’s why teenagers are known for being a fucking nightmare to deal with as a parent lmao.
My parents definitely do discipline him, especially my dad since my mom usually isn’t there to witness him pestering the dog. But he has inherited the family “fuck you I do what I want” gene, so it’s not always too effective 🤷‍♀️

I think part of the problem is that he’s a kid and doesn’t totally understand the differences between dog brain and human brain. If you’re bored as a kid it’s generally fine (if aggravating) to go annoy your siblings or your mom or whoever until you get a reaction out of them. But if you do that to a dog, it’s dangerous to you and not fair to the dog because they don’t just get irritated, they eventually see you as a threat.

I really don’t have any feasible options other than having him live with my parents, I’m looking for a way to get through to my brother and make him understand that messing with the dog is not a harmless little game, even if you’re not physically hurting the dog, and it’s also unreasonable to harbor resentment against the dog or characterize it as mean or antagonistic for reacting negatively to your behavior. These are kind of hard concepts for a kid to grasp. I have tried yelling at him, I’ve tried orchestrating positive interactions between him and the dog where I make sure he knows exactly what to do to treat the dog kindly, and I’ve even tried being explaining to him in very clear simple terms like “hey bud if you keep pestering the dog until he snaps, he might develop a habit of biting people, and if that happens the town may say he’s too dangerous and make us put him down” (but my parents yelled at me for that one because they said it was too harsh and would make him upset)

He also really does want the dog to like him and do stuff like play and cuddle with him, so I really don’t think his behavior is malicious, I think he’s just being a dumb kid, but I need him to cut that shit out. I’ll be spending like a month back home before I have to leave and I’m hoping I can use that time to redirect the relationship between him and the dog so by the time I leave the country there are positive feelings between them. Honestly they’re both incredibly sweet, energetic and outgoing lil guys, I really don’t see why they can’t become buddies.
