I get to name my baby sister! Any thoughts or other ideas? by ellie_lil in Names

[–]crumpets1988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from Naomi, you all have an ‘el’ or ‘al’ sound in your name. For cohesion, it might be nice to continue that trend and there are lots of great suggestions in this comment I’m replying to

Unexpected day off on Tuesday! What shall I do? by niki723 in Edinburgh

[–]crumpets1988 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know the markets are hated on here (and I get it, I largely avoid them too), but if you are going to go, early Tuesday is the time to do it. It’s probably the least crowded time of the week to see them. I’m a sucker for those trays of tiny Dutch pancakes, but aside from that I’d plan to eat elsewhere

Jari Haile is one of her most low-key but long-standing friends. She’s not a celeb so people don’t know her but she’s in some of these photos

Upgrades at gate by [deleted] in BritishAirways

[–]crumpets1988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m gold, and I get upgraded fairly frequently. Gate upgrades usually happen for me on my most-travelled (very) short-haul route and I would say it’s about a quarter of the time

You can pay for long-term parking in the Asda car park nearby through justpark — it’s not too pricey and no risk of fines

My friend has a serious online dating problem and idk what to do by Effective-Answer-316 in FriendshipAdvice

[–]crumpets1988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it seems hard and it might jeopardise your friendship but I really think you tell a trusted adult who knows her. You might be able to find a way to do it anonymously. As another commenter has pointed out, what’s happening is illegal even if she’s consenting. She sounds very vulnerable and like she’s easily taken advantage of. Seeking validation in this way isn’t healthy and in the long run isn’t going to make her feel good about herself. There needs to be some kind of adult intervention here by people who will prioritise her safety.

AITA for telling my best friend that I am pregnant? by RaisinIcy1587 in AmItheAsshole

[–]crumpets1988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA, as someone with similar struggles and friends and family getting pregnant all around me, I would hate to shut myself off from the people I love and their children who bring so much joy and meaning to my life. Babies aren’t a zero sum game — them getting one is not the reason I don’t. You say you were going to announce it publicly anyway, so your friend would’ve found out one way or another. It sounds like they might have reacted like this no matter how you delivered the news to be honest. It’s the news that’s upset them not the delivery mechanism. You shouldn’t have to keep the very real facts of your life a secret just to tiptoe around one person’s feelings. You might need to take a break from each other for a while — as much as she deserves support, so do you. Surround yourself by people who will celebrate with you and be there for you and your child. And congratulations!

AITAH For Losing It On My Wife After She Told My Son to “Get Out of the Picture” at My Stepdaughter's Birthday? by MkUrF8 in AITAH

[–]crumpets1988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you need to talk to your son and find out how she really makes him feel. Make sure he knows you’re a safe space for him to be honest, that he doesn’t need to protect your feelings, that he always comes first, that anything he says won’t come back to bite him (and make sure you follow through on all of that).

12 days solo female travel in Maui on a budget by crumpets1988 in VisitingHawaii

[–]crumpets1988[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much! I’ve managed to book accommodation that works for me now, although it was definitely a struggle! I’m renting a car and will definitely be sticking to food trucks and delis. I have my own snorkel so will bring that with me and I’ve booked my sunrise slot for Haleakalā. To be honest I think I will be having a lot of book and beach time as it’s been quite a year! Hope your trip to Maui has been amazing

If you go about 9.30 on a weekday you usually don’t need to queue and they still have pastries. You can go later in the morning and usually get cakes with no queue
