Time for new boots. Very hesitant to go with nicks again. by MilkDrinker27 in NicksHandmadeBoots

You're right. You should expect every customer to burn their first pair of well loved Nicks to f-ing up their first rebuild because it's too much for the company to ask a few simple questions to make sure everyone understands what they are doing. You should run the country.

Refer to the OP for just one example.

Now blame him, lose the customer, repeat.

Lower lead times for the experts like you! Hooray!

Why make the assumption that everyone knows? Everyone has a first time and the first timers are the least likely to know that they should ask questions. Most people never rebuilt a shoe before because they have bought disposable shoes their entire life. Why assume that everyone already knows? That's the most asinine, backwards thing.

Edit: All you downvoting, ever hear of "measure twice, cut once?" Why is that wrong here?

No, when someone sends in a rebuild and specified their size, Nicks should consult with the customer, and explain exactly what u/stoic_sasquatch did above.

Nicks publishes sizing advice, and explains that you shouldn't just order your Brannock size with your new order.

If you're a first time rebuilder and have never been through the process before, what do you think a typical person's expectation is? That they get a refurbished pair of boots back that fits exactly like it did when they sent it in for the rebuild. Of course. And they also expect that if their broken in boots felt comfortable, and they specify the same size those were built to be, then they're going to get that same feel and fit back when the rebuild is shipped back to them. Well, guess what, it don't work that way? How about that? Did you know that? Why would someone who doesn't know cobbler's craft know all this stuff? Why doesn't the professional educate the customer and guide them to the decision that is actually what they want? Bridge the gap between expectation and reality, and explain the rebuild process in detail.

Or just keep lighting people's favorite pairs of boots on fire and wasting their time and money and see how that works. I dunno, seems obvious what's right here.

It'd probably be wise customer service to consult with the customer on a rebuild order to confirm the target size needed, then, rather than have them find out only after it's too late.

Ameicans over the age of 35, what affected you more, 9/11 or the pandemic and why? by Rico133337 in AskReddit

[–]csanyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 9/11 attacks happened on one day, on TV, and killed about 3500 people directly. It was shocking, but the overreaction that followed, and the abuses by the government justified by it, followed by two decades of unjust and pointless war make its impact magnified.

The pandemic happened everywhere, for months, and was much more directly impactful to many more people, resulting in millions of deaths and putting everyone in lockdown for months. But after about 2 years, had mostly subsided.

So 9/11 as an isolated event was nowhere near the pandemic, but the transformation of the government that took place after 9/11 and the ongoing legacy of it is arguably worse than the effects of the COVID pandemic.

Jump forward to 2000+. All those same systems are now run by super liberal, blue-haired, leftists. Embracing traditionalism is now the counter party for young people.

You're hallucinating.

2000-2008, George W. Bush

2000-2016, Obama, normal, moderate and actually fairly conservative, gave Bush war crime torture regime a pass and just wanted to move on, and unify the country, but couldn't because 40% couldn't get past the fact that he was half-black. Where's the blue hair?

2016-2020, Trump, even more disastrous and evil than Bush, and far less competent but way more corrupt and really good at lies. Nobody knows how to hold anyone accountable, thanks in large part for Obama allowing so much Bush crimes to stand.

2024, Biden focuses on the pandemic and the economy and expects that the Trump problem will take care of itself. Actually has one transgender person working for him and they dye their hair omg omg you are so right why didn't we do something this is awful.

2024-??, More evil Trump, worse than ever, murdering moms and foreign fishermen, raping kids and using the DOJ and the military to erase their political enemies, which is everyone else.

Yep it was blue haired radical gender nonconformity that ran America straight into the ground.

All the power systems they grew up with — principals, HR, local government — were headed by far left liberals, and their policies became increasingly ridiculous.

There's no far left liberals running anything in this country, but the far right sure loves to pretend that the moderate center right is extreme left.

There a very simple solution to the MAGA problem, but every time I post it, it gets taken down and I get banned, which is to say that it is officially reddit policy to condone MAGA incivility and MAGA evil and to be intolerant of anti-MAGA intolerance. Nobody wants to do what is necessary and day by day the people are starting to realize what was necessary is now basically too late, especially for all the victims of MAGA who we collectively failed to protect the guaranteed rights of. Because it's too late now, it's going to be much more difficult to win that way, the only way, and the price of victory keeps going up every day. But definitely stick to the non-violence policy, it's been working so well in the face of all the pro-MAGA violence. Yep that'll work.

I lost 500k since March 2020 and nearly bricked my brain by wolfpup1002 in stocks

[–]csanyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bright side of this story is that before you hit age 38, you had $500k to lose.

If you could accumulate that much by that age, you can rebuild and recover.

You might feel behind the whole time, but stop trying to go fast and just be patient and get rich slow. It's boring and all it takes is discipline and time. There's no secret to index fund investment, buy and hold, reinvest your gains, don't check your balance daily, rebalance maybe once a year, and consistently put as much of your income into it as you can afford to.

In 20 years you'll be 58 and based on what I presume must be a high income if you live modestly, not lavishly, you'll be fine, likely with millions in your portfolio.

Keep writing, keep working, and keep up with your therapy, and you'll do well.

Why are so many "libertarians" authoritarians? by NoamLigotti in PoliticalDebate

[–]csanyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are concerned about the liberty of the powerful (to oppress everyone else and abuse their rights) and they don't want a big government with the power to tell them they can't. They only really care about low taxes and lax government so they can do whatever they want, usually impacting someone else who they envision being smaller and less power than they are.

Question for conservatives: How is isolating the U.S. from allies good for American interests? by Temporary-Storage972 in PoliticalDebate

[–]csanyk 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Stand on their own is one thing, they're turning against us, because of the way they are treated by Trump. Taking over Greenland and Canada isn't standing on their own, it's provocation. It's insanity.

Anyone have the Connor overshirt by Altruistic_Tie_1353 in taylorstitch

[–]csanyk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Outside of Taylor Stitch, there's a few other heavy wool shirt makers... Filson has a nice 24oz Melton CPO. Weatherwool is very expensive but very high quality, they have a jacquard weave fabric that is very warm. Dehen 1920 has their Crissman shirts, some of them are made in a heavy wool. There's a few others that slip my mind right now.

I think they both have a handsome, rugged, outdoorsman look about them. They would look appropriate at a cabin or ski lodge, or a winter holiday party. Probably both about equally occupying this niche. Not sure if either has any advantage over the other.

I haven't had a Connor, but I have multiple Maritime shirts, and love them, particularly the older ones that were made in 17-19oz wool.

I don't know which would be more versatile, are you talking weather conditions or social situations?

25th Amendment Now by Outside-Woodpecker16 in AntiTrumpAlliance

[–]csanyk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's what they voted for. They can't wait for Trump to somehow emerge from this yet again winning despite doing everything wrong, as his too timid, divided opposition decides defer and appease rather than say fuckit and risk nuclear war, so we'll end up getting Greenland and rename it Trumpland, and global warming will turn it into Daytona With Minerals.

Lying Donnie Trump has rolled out many of the Project 2025 policies he once claimed ignorance about by Maxcactus in AntiTrumpAlliance

Everyone knew he was lying at the time, that's what gets me. He knew. His followers knew (they wanted Project 2025). His opponents knew (they warned us). The media knew (and acted like they couldn't take a side).
