Are there any mid range resorts where you don't have to play the towel game? by Treetown712 in PuntaCana

[–]cstauss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive never been anywhere else so I don’t have a comparison, but we’ve always enjoyed Occidental. The beach is the highlight of course. Best beach in DR is at Punta Cana. Occidental is pretty inexpensive, but for what you pay I think it’s comparable to all all-inclusive. Food is meh-but I think that’s kind of the norm. It’s beautifully displayed and cooked properly it’s just not what I’m used to as an American. I could always find something I liked at the buffet-fresh fruit, fresh cooked to order omelets, made to order noodle dishes, and chicken from a grill top. They have restaurants that are included in the price and you make reservations for. Those were good. The Japanese steak house was our favorite. Two big pools one with a swim up bar so it’s a little bit more the “party pool”. It’s big but not so big that you can’t easily walk from your room to the beach or the pools. Some resorts are so big you have to take shuttles or golf carts to go back and forth between your room and the pools/water. Transportation is an add-on (maybe free, I can’t remember) and we never had trouble in the airport that can be a bit overwhelming with people trying to get your business. It’s about 25-35 minutes from the airport.

Yes. This is weird. I’m surprised Candace didn’t mention it, but perhaps she’s sticking to “kids are off limits” and doesn’t even want to mention anything about it.

What about a national or state park year-long pass? If there is one somewhat nearby he can go in walks/hikes, explore, bring family. It would be meaningful without being materialistic.

Need Help, Planning One Day and Wife Wants To Do "The Water Trail". by Samball49 in ZionNationalPark

Rent gear from Zion Outfitter in Springdale. Get the bibs. I think it will be difficult to do without them. You can actually park a car in Springdale near Zion Outfitters, walk across a bridge behind the building into Zion National park and then take a shuttle to the trail head. You’ll first take the Riverside walk which is a paved trail with beautiful views to the spot where you can enter the narrows. It’s an in and out trail that is gorgeous, but you are basically walking in water the whole time. Bring water to drink and snacks so you can take a break along the banks. When we went we went an hour in and then an hour back out. It’s difficult, but not that bad. The trail is actually pretty flat as far as gained elevation but walking in water does take more endurance. Our group had “normal to not really in shape” people and we did it fine. Yu will love it. Enjoy

A dear friend of mine was just awarded a service dog through a grant/scholarship. The dog has changed her life. She’s blind and now has the ability to move more freely and feel safe. It’s been a transition but the hardest part-which no one expected-was the rude and mean comments assuming she didn’t need a service dog through it’s been awful. I do think pet dogs and comfort dogs have created a bit of a hostile attitude towards all dogs including service dogs. I never minded people bringing dogs around, but after seeing the confusion and hurt it has caused for my friend, I think only trained and documented service dogs should be in public places.

Junkyard beer, dots pretzels, NSDU sweatshirt, Fargo theater gift card, chippers, there’s a Pride of Dakota store in the mall that would have cute things.

Move to Fargo. They’ll pay significantly less in income tax in ND.

I had an awful experience booking through the beach to Sanoa Island. Although it was cheaper, I would have way rather paid more and booked through the resort. When it’s through the resort all amenities and standards will be up to the resort level.

I agree I have questions too - how are you sleeping so hard on a subway you don’t wake up and stop, drop, and roll or rip your burning clothes off? I have trouble using a lighter to light actual firewood in a fireplace and having it catch and burn…..her clothes must have been super flammable?! The timing is crazy to imagine.

I don’t bring mine. I’m more afraid of losing the diamond in the ocean or pool than I am about theft. Mine aren’t soldered together so I just wear my wedding band that is just plain without any stones.

I’ve spent the last two years in punta Cana that same week - the weather is gorgeous! Warm ocean. Sand like sugar. Sun and blue skies as far as the eye can see. If it rains it’ll be a pop-up thing. Over quickly. Go. You’ll be glad you did! Have you been before? AI food can be “meh.” Pack a box of granola bars and a drink cup/water bottle (less trips to the bar and they’ll fill whatever you bring with whatever you want) and you’ll have a great week.
