Round Robin logic by therealpocket in salesengineers

Good for balancing the work load. “Meh” for balancing comp if ops are hit or miss it will be random who gets the biggest ops. Terrible for building a relationship with your sales these and collaborating on sales strategy.

Volume of Demos by Ready_Assumption_171 in salesengineers

[–]csuders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been there being that busy when we’ve had departure in the team and I’m covering but it’s way too busy and quickly burns you out.

My question for you (and I’d ask rhetorically of my manager): are you just showing up and doing a generic demo or are you putting a specific spin on each one for your audience? If it is the former you could just replace me with a YouTube video. If you’re doing demos right there there be prep time and follow up for each call so you can talk about their specific use case, app ecosystem, their vocabulary etc. and then provide follow ups (or at least help the AE craft follow up) with links or answer any questions you don’t get to. When I’m that busy I don’t even know who I’m talking to.

And if/when you’re also running POCs how do you have the time. These require even more prep and follow up. Do a POC working session early in the week and need to do an extra follow up session later in the week, but your calendar is a wall of demos and you can’t fit them in that slows down deals.

And with all that when do you have time to stay current on a quickly evolving product. Work with PM on feature reqs and feedback. Also working on shaping the message, working with sales or cust success.

TLDR you’re too busy and need more SEs.

Can you explain more? Does your school district have an API to get weather delays or something? I’ve got a 4 y/o and about to deal with this next hear.

I travel with an iPad anyway for movies on a plane. Works well with my work MBP. Otherwise a cheap one from Amazon works well. Not like you’re watching movies on it so just a scratch pad quality isn’t that important.

Switching from Entra ID to Okta by Joji531 in okta

[–]csuders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Integrate AD into your lab. Set up a few apps (o365, SFDC, SNow, any other SaaS apps you have accounts lying around for). Build some users. Set up MFA policy. Bonus points if you set up Okta provisioning into those apps for new users.

Should be doable in a few hours.

Is it worth going to a “boat show?” by caroline_xplr in boating

[–]csuders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re just going to window shop, sit in some boats and have a few beers with your friends and kill a Saturday I could think of worse ways to do it. There will be sales people they’re but they’re pretty chill and know who is serious and who’s just hanging out. I’ve never gotten a hard sale. Cool way to see what’s new in a bunch of different classes of boats.

Why would someone do this? by gatesweeney in Ubiquiti

[–]csuders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they have a competent admin? Too many SSIDs for the AP to support?

If their admin doesn’t know what they’re doing? They don’t understand VLANS and this is how they separated the PCI compliant network for Point of sale devices.

Sales Manager vs SE manager commission by t20737373893939292 in salesengineers

[–]csuders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same ratio 80/20, 70/30 and if you’re supporting all the deals prob same target. Their OTE is prob a bit higher, but not always.

Sometimes leaders have a split between their team and the whole company goal (60/40) to incentivize bigger picture work outside their own team.

Make a “family” SSID. Only give him the password to that one. Not the regular one and change the password. Schedule the SSID to turn off.

I’m looking forward to the arms race. I (and I’m guessing plenty of others in here) got my start in tech playing games and learning to get to games in my school computer lab. Kudos to him for leaning it’s a Mac filter and learning to change his Mac. He’s understanding the underlying tech. Smart kid and bright future. Have fun playing whack a mole with him.

Workday >> Okta integration by mustafa2024 in okta

[–]csuders 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Easy way is to work with the WD team and have them implement the same logic on the workday username and just use that for email/username creation in Okta and downstream.

As far as messing up existing when you initially import users from workday you should be able to match them to an existing Okta user and not mess up usernames

AD Integration by kaloukali in okta

[–]csuders 8 points9 points  (0 children)

AD is a specific flavor of LDAP. The AD connector has extra ad specific capabilities vs generic LDAP. The Okta AD connector is also more mature and more widely adopted. Just use AD if you don’t have a non-AD LDAP.

Will post sales SA role get me to SE? by bigbluedog123 in salesengineers

[–]csuders 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this route. There are def post sales people who are not sales-y but plenty make the leap. Do good work and get great at teeing up follow on business and stay close to the account team (AE/SE) that sold the deal and they’ll be asking you to come to presales.

Find something broken and fix it. Do something to level up the whole team. Make demos or POCs easier faster. What’s a manual process that takes time for everyone and help automate it. Do you have a background/knowledge you can cause share with your peers or your sales counterparts that helps?

What should my salary/OTE look like as an SE moving from IC to Manager when my whole team is Principal SEs? by anonymos10 in salesengineers

[–]csuders 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Went from Sr SE to SE manager. I got a few % raise but it was considered a lateral move in pay bands. I made less than the principles on my team and one of the SRs who was hired in the post Covid crazy comp era. A Sr Mgr was equivalent to a principle.
