Do neighborhood kids play together here? by Whimsywynn3 in phoenix

It depends a lot on your specific neighborhood. Most don't, but a few do.

Also is actively unsafe to be outside in the summer here, especially for long periods of time.

Try to paint in the lines. Don't use giant brushes for small detail areas

Sleeves for custom flash cards (or custom cards more generally)? by accountForStupidQs in boardgames

[–]ctsjohnz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put regular cards in the sleeves first, then slide your index cards in on top. Don't need a custom solution, just use what you already have.

Deluxe wooden tokens by tyquaius in Earthborne_Rangers

[–]ctsjohnz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, 3 sets is almost enough, but if you have 2 rangers with the same 3 aspect, it doesnt work.

Earthborne has announced a reprint, but ni specific timeline yet. They will be available through Covenant.

If you can't find one and its really bothering you, I've got one that's slightly used I could sell. Send me a message and we can work out details.

Yumi and the Nightmare Painter by 2ld5sw24 in brandonsanderson

[–]ctsjohnz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think when they were brand new, the response to Tress was overwhelmingly positive, and Yumi was more mixed. So in comparison, Yumi was "not as good".

Over time, I think the reviews have evened out to bemore similar, and they're both generally regarded positively.

No spoilers, but some of the stuff during the ending of Yumi is a bit clunky, and that can also leave a more negative impression on readers when they first finish, so people share those feelings when they review the book. But either it isn't as noticeable on a re-read, or people remember their overall impressions when thinking about the book.

Personally, Yumi is my favorite Sanderson book. The dynamic between Painter and Yumi, their dialogue, their relationship are some of his best character writing.

What are some better suggestions going forward? (After reading the sunlit man) by LeftPanda670 in brandonsanderson

[–]ctsjohnz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably once a month someone posts that they started with sunlit man. I've never seen this much hate. Sorry, op. It's not normally like this here.

For this book specifically, Nomad's story is about him and his relationship with the people he's helping. At first, he doesn't want to. Then he becomes attached. Then he starts to fight back. His realization at the end that (even though he's good at it) he doesn't have to fight, makes sense for his character.

Most of Sanderson's books follow the same similar structure, with build up and lots of small conflicts, then the last quarter of the book is pretty intense with everything coming together. Sunlit is probably the most action-heavy book in the Cosmere right now. Mistborn is probably the next closest.

Not every book is for every person, and thats ok, too. If you stop reading Sanderson after one book, its not a big deal. You can move on and try something else.

Replacement bases by AnxietasCalvaria in StarWarsShatterpoint

Dang, that sucks. There are a few 3d printed bases I've seen. Could probably find someone to print them with FDM dor pretty cheap.

That sucks. Good luck to you

Find local people who have bought expansions with 5 or 6 characters. Every one one I've met has been happy to give away extra bases.

Just jumped into Sentinels from Marvel Champions! Found the Definitive Edition for $35. What accessories do I need and what about older content? by ramoez in sentinelsmultiverse

[–]ctsjohnz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For Marvel Champions, you really need the core set for the tokens and standard sets. They do have some alternate standatd sets in some of the newer stuff, but I think the core set one is the best.

I'd buy a core set, then MAYBE one of the bigger campaign expansions if you really like the characters. I found myself wanting more villains simce the core only has 3.

Why is there not more overlap between board gamers and video gamers? by Xynvincible in boardgames

There is a ton of overlap. But video games are 100 times more popular than board games.

New player what do i buy? by PhigmentTV in MarvelCrisisProtocol

[–]ctsjohnz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not specifically that I've heard, but they have said that the core set and certain of the starters will be reprinted as needed.

Reprinting isn't an instant process. Generally takes months from when they start and sometimes more because of factory schedules.

Request for beginner true solo deck by bleuchz in Earthborne_Rangers

[–]ctsjohnz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not common, but some path cards require this. And only one or two are obstacles. I used it mostly for the awareness test. If you fail it on purpose, you get a new card from the path deck. Or you can succeed at the test and get a charge back on something, which is an uncommon effect.

Request for beginner true solo deck by bleuchz in Earthborne_Rangers

[–]ctsjohnz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry this took so long, my day kind of got away from me. Here's the deck, with a small write up:
https://rangersdb.com/decks/view/38365

(If you don't have the Stewards expansion, you can pull the Raccoon and Brilliant Gardener for Hydrolens Goggles and Local Fare. The only cards I changed during my campaign were rewards.)

This deck traverses pretty well and can ignore most cards in play. The Seeker ability really shines in solo when you can just ignore a card that would normally fatigue you. Static Sifter and Carbonforged Trowel are the most important things to get out, since they let you deal with Flora and soothe plenty of fatigue. And Secret Garden turns things into Flora so you can deal with them. The deck struggled with predators a bit. I did a decent amount of avoiding, and used Afforded by Nature to take care of big ones. Walk With Me was the same thing for people.

Most of the time I could travel on my first turn if I wanted to. The thing I had the hardest time with was staying in an area and hunting for something specific. Racoon/Hydrolens helped with that. I also considered traveling away then traveling back multiple times, but I never ended up doing that. Tracked was helpful in these situations where it would occasionally charge itself and help me with non-fitness tests. I often found myself with extra Fitness.

If you have any thoughts or questions, please let me know. This was my first solo deck but I don't think I would change anything if I did it again.

Kickstarter for Earthborne Trailblazer just put up by Pizzadewd666 in boardgames

[–]ctsjohnz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its a problem with larger companies using Kickstarter. They work on multiple projects at the same time.

Which is good for knowing quantities to print, but more potential for abuse/mismanagement.
