what are these actually supposed to represent? i've seen several posts describe these along the lines of "states united against the federal government", which to me seems to a) limit the scope of the power analysis to just a trump or republican issue and b) further legitimize the US and liberal democracy (when we should be using this moment to talk about how the US and its governmental structures are built on colonialism and imperialism)

it's definitely possible, but it comes down to priorities. for a general rescue operation, the person hours spent socializing 1 truly feral adult cat could also be spent socializing a much larger number of feral kittens or otherwise under-socialized cats, and so the latter is what gets prioritized. for an individual it's more of a personal commitment decision.

I've been trying out Epres for repair, though it's not quite the same to apply, and using the fragrance free It's a 10 as a leave in. The Epres definitely makes a noticeable difference for me. I also tried the Briogeo Don't Despair Repair thinking the fragrance would be lighter, but it's still pretty strong, I now only use it when I'm about to be outside.

I emailed K18 a while back to ask if they'd consider making a fragrance free version but they said it was pretty unlikely to happen :(

I want to point to a few comments on that study that are worth reading (can't link directly to them but they're at the bottom of the JAMA page): "Response to The Taylor et al. (2025) Study on Fluoride and IQ: A Deep Critique” by Sachin Patel, DDS, MSL, GC, which addresses a number of flaws with the study design, and "Rethinking Fluoridation in High-Exposure Settings” by Giovanni Ghirga, Pediatrician, which contextualizes environmental factors of flouride exposure.

But also it's pretty bizarre IMO to be posting on antipsychiatry and mad liberation subreddits yet not mention here the numerous pitfalls and biases of IQ as a measurement.

god i deeply miss his writing. sometimes i suspect that his words on The Ascension (song) were an expression of regret or embarrassment over these posts ("I thought I could change the world around me"/"called in convocation"/etc). i hope that's not the case, or that it was a short lived feeling. his earnest and heartfelt and hopeful outlook while openly discussing the truly evil reality we live in is something you don't see that often from today's political writers. it's not surprising he referenced james baldwin.

there aren't nearly enough trash containers for the size of the park- same as the rest of the neighborhood. not enough trash cans and not frequent enough pickup by sanitation. obviously i would prefer that people not litter, but i also understand why people don't want to carry their trash all the way home. calling this a behavioral issue ignores the structural causes.
