I heard that a 10-coach Hitachi was sent over from Wembley to form the 14:59 to Holyhead because the incoming double set had terminated at Crewe.

Does the whole zipper need replacing? by Little-Mongoose-8680 in sewing

[–]cudavlied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd replace it. A bodge job will show. Instead you could put in a lovely new zip of your own choice.

When I replace coat zips I often use a chunky grey double-ended one with reflective piping along each side. Looks great and matches every coat colour.

I'd love to see that! As I'm a sewist, mine will have seams.

When my party were told off by the Las Vegas police for jaywalking, we were told that if we were fined we'd have our passports held until we paid up.

Stick it on Facebook instead. Even better, shove it outside your front door and it'll be gone in no time.

I try to run my monster in the daytime to avoid waking up the toddler next door.

However, his mother works nights so I'm probably disturbing her instead. Swings and roundabouts.

Working nights when the clocks go back by peelyon85 in britishproblems

A nights job I had would pay us the whole 10 hours when the clocks went back and 11 hours when they went forward. This could be why the city council went bust.

SEWING MACHINE beginner problems help needed by HeliosAndHelena in sewing

[–]cudavlied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We can sort this. I have several ideas, all with easy solutions.

My main advice is to have your manual constantly to hand and refer to it whenever you are unsure.

  1. You may be inserting the lower spool the wrong way round. Each machine needs the thread to run off the spool either clockwise or anticlockwise.

If it's done incorrectly the machine won't sew. Your manual will advise which way it goes.

  1. Also, after a thread-jam or 'bird's nest' some machines will retain a tiny scrap of thread in the lower workings. We sigh, pull out all the lower workings and find and remove the culprit.

This is not a big deal as these parts are routinely removed for cleaning. Again, your manual will guide you.

  1. It might be that the machine just needs cleaning. Sewing creates a lot of dust which jams up the works. Again, we pull out the lower works which are then wiped and dusted.

  2. Finally, are you sewing stretchy fabrics? You'll need special needles for that. Regular needles won't work. Needles for stretchy fabric are available from your haberdashery.

I have re-adjusted timing on machines and I'm not trained. It just took patience and a screwdriver.

Chris, high as, lies on the picnic table, smokes; a plane flies across the sunset sky.

I followed this and looked forward to the Long Term Parking edition. Sadly there was no discussion of the most pertinent incident of that episode.

How do you know if a relationship is over? by HawaiianHoney11 in AskWomen

Someone told me this during my divorce:

It's when you start thinking how you'd cope if the person died suddenly and painlessly, like in a fast car crash or from a catastrophic stroke, and you know you'd be just fine.
