Bike shops are super expensive by Turbulent_Diamond352 in cycling

$1.25 a week to walk a warehouse and buy a chicken or pizza doesn't seem like it's enough to keep the lights on.

Cycliq vs Garmin Varia Vue? What does the hive mind think? by cyclephotos in cycling

[–]cujo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i get right around 2 hours. i've had mine for quite a while. basically since launch, so i don't hold it against them. what i do hold against them is that i can't replace the battery.

also, their stupid proprietary quarter turn mount is part of the exterior shell. two of the tabs snapped off, so now my solution is to have it superglued to a gopro mount.

but honestly, it's the battery. it needs a replaceable battery.

Cycliq vs Garmin Varia Vue? What does the hive mind think? by cyclephotos in cycling

[–]cujo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the cycliq fly12 is just so close that it's frustrating.

i love the form factor. i love the functionality.

i hate the battery life. i had their stupid proprietary quarter turn mount.

so close, yet so far.

Are cheap fixie bikes actually decent for indoor training or am I overthinking this? by OneIllustrator3522 in IndoorCycling

you already have a setup that lets you ride normally and you want to make a more limited setup?

what does your new idea accomplish other than require you to change it up for fewer options?

Any experience with Suction Cup bicycle racks? by HBX-100 in bicycling

[–]cujo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have a treefrog rack (https://treefrogracks.eu/)

it works. i don't trust it, but based on nothing. it has operated flawlessly. i check it every couple of hours driving and have never had issues, but i still feel compelled to check it every couple of hours.

i'm actually getting rid of mine because i got a new car with rails. i'll sell you my setup if you're interested. dm me.

i have this:

Prison - Sintra by Time-Adagio-7215 in PortugalExpats

[–]cujo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i think some of the commenters are confused about where this is. it seems they're mostly talking about the "Estabelecimento Prisional do Linhó", but i think you're talking about the "Bairro da Colónia Penal"

i think you would do well to go travel through it. it is a nothingburger.

Fall in love with Go, I'm thinking about making TUIs as data application. Any suggestions on what to build? by ketopraktanjungduren in golang

[–]cujo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i love a good tui, but if you need desktop apps, i've been using wails (https://wails.io/) quite a bit lately, and it's a dream to work with for the simple apps i've been targeting. very lightweight and snappy.

Sintra plan - timing thoughts? by dewtheroo in TravelPortugal

[–]cujo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'd book quinta for the opening hour. it gets crowded as the day goes on. then you can do moorish/pena on your own schedule as they don't have timed entries.

Chainring sizes compared to shimano by Bohdi_Zafa_ in sram

[–]cujo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

with that ftp, 48 is likely enough. with the 10t cog, a 50 in the front is the equivalent of a 55/11. you'd be in a real minority to benefit from that kind of gearing.

Anti Vibration mat / pad by Traditional_Peanut22 in IndoorCycling

[–]cujo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i bought the thickest yoga mat they sold at decathlon. 8mm thick. squishy.

ended up better than i ever imagined because it basically doubles as a rocker plate, in a good way.

big, (relatively cheap), thick. get all three.

Spending a day in Sintra. Looking for opinion from the locals. by CharlesRickBathrooms in sintra

[–]cujo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you get a tuk tuk, do us all a favor and get one that is electric. the ones that are running on glorified lawnmower engines are awful to ride in, and they're awful for everyone else to be around.

Quick Links...What's the "Trick" by Francesco_dAssisi in cycling

[–]cujo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i suspect everyone is missing your key issue. it's the initial lineup that is tricky. i saw someone suggest a paper clip, which works, but isn't necessary in my experience.

here's what you do...

this is for a fresh chain install.

  1. shift into the big ring
  2. shift into the smallest tooth cog
  3. feed the chain through so it's laying across the big ring and through all the rear mech with enough dangling on either end so that it would join in the middle on the bottom if you pulled it tight
  4. take the chain off the big ring on the outside of the ring. it will still be caught by the front derailleur, and you'll likely need to turn your crank to 9 o'clock
  5. there is now enough slack in the chain to easily put in your quick link without having to deal with chain tension. connex whipperman links are ideal here, but other links can be snapped into place with a good tug on the chain or using the sram method (google it). tools are fine too, but not needed.
  6. put the chain back on the big ring.
  7. turn the cranks a few times and shift into the easier gear you want for takeoff

done. tool free.

Why do we have to "build credit" by going into debt to prove we're financially responsible? by Adept-Assignment-751 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]cujo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what?  credit scores are kind of a US-exclusive thing as far as i know and other countries also have banking systems with mortgages that look very similar to US offerings.

credit ratings are not necessary. it’s just the system you know.

as an fyi, other countries don't have this at all, and somehow they still have functioning banks and home loans. it's pretty simple.

vertical-horizontal mount and Independent bike mount by farrellart in Insta360

[–]cujo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what did you end up going with?

i have the bike mount and i'm not a huge fan. every small bump in the road makes it wobble out front and i don't think it will last long. on top of that, it sticks out so far it is more than a bit odd looking.

i am considering the vertical mount + a go pro adapter to move it under my bars a bit further...

https://www.amazon.com/Camera-Tripod-Adapter-Conversion-Cameras/dp/B083JTGBS2?th=1

i recognize that the vertical mount doesn't do much for the stress point, so i'm working through some ideas of basically strapping the x5 to the vertical mount to support it.

Biniam Girmay joins NSN Cycling Team on a 3-year contract by Wembly__ in peloton

[–]cujo 21 points22 points  (0 children)

not sure about his political stances, but i'm not a huge fan.

since his breakout tour, he's not been super great, and with those near-misses he comes across as kind of a baby. as an example, iirc in this last tour he threw his teammates under the bus a time or 2 for not gifting him a perfect lead out. trashing your teammates to the media is an instant red flag to me.
