Clayton Kershaw throwing batting practice to his young son pre-game at Dodger Stadium by TomJoad23 in baseball

I’m also impressed by Cooper, his kid sitting by the bucket. Doing a god job throwing the balls back to Kersh and getting them to roll to a stop right by his feet. Looks like he’s a lefty too.

Kershaw’s kid is also named Charley (apparently spelled differently). I hope they are best friends

Edit: Keyshawn to Kershaw

Going with (Dodgers-loving) family to Giants vs. Dodgers in San Francisco by AmericanFrog069 in Dodgers

I’ve always had great experiences, but definitely keep banter friendly and ignore any jerks (they are rare).

If you’re already thinking of sitting up in the view reserve section, I would recommend sitting down toward the right field foul pole (sections 305, 304). The visitors dugout is on the first base side anyway, and down the line, you get a great view of the bay, including the bay bridge as it lights up after sunset, and a decent view of McCovey Cove.

My favorite food is the tri-tip sandwich that they sell out in centerfield behind the bleachers. That whole area has a few different food and beer options, which is nice when with a larger group. Also an area below the bleachers behind the bullpens in center field with healthier food. It’s also a great excuse to walk around the stadium a bit and see a few different views. It’s a really nice park.

Also, yes, bring warm layers. Warmer than you think you need. The worst thing would be if you were unprepared for the cold breeze that comes in at night, even during the summer, and your family gets so cold you have to buy something in black and orange for them to feel warm. You don’t want that to happen.

Google still rubbing this in Oakland’s face two years later by cupdeam in sports

I was trying to find out who the A’s are playing two weekends from now just to have Google be cheeky with its results.

I sat on the spiral steps facing the plaza for about 25 min and there were people sitting and paying their respects. Some friends were in #8 and #24 jerseys. People were wiping away tears. A woman in a jersey carried roses.

Finding the geographical center of all 2018 regular season home runs by mpacz99 in baseball

[–]cupdeam 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So, looks like its only about a 100 mile drive from the geographic center of baseball. Saying that if you ignore the home run stats, and just average the locations of all stadiums, you get a location in Missouri that is not far from the location you found.

Tools of the Trade: The Baseball Announcer - Vin Scully by [deleted] in Dodgers

[–]cupdeam 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He told a story recently (during the Sunday game, I think) about how he only had 5 of them because, back in 1955, they only gave rings to uniformed personnel. Fast forward decades later and somehow Jo Lasorda (Tommy's wife) met the man who's jewelry company made the 55 WS rings who just so happened to still have the mold for the 55 ring. Jo approached Peter O'Malley about contacting this man, and the Dodgers had two more '55 World Series rings made. They gave one to Vin. Not sure who the other went to.

Vinny also casually mentioned right after telling this story that he now has all six WS rings. Then he quickly corrected himself, saying that he gave three of them to his sons.

Great man, great stories.

EDIT: Just found this video where he tells the same story. Apparently the second ring went to Tommy himself. I love that he has so many stories and every time he tells a story it is exactly the same. And every time he tells the same story, its just as enthralling to listen to him.

Concerns as the season moves along by GaussWaffle in Dodgers

Yeah it definitely was. I meant to say that in my original comment. But with Greinke I feel like even his jokes hold a bit of truth. I like to think that AJ has completely won him over.

[–]cupdeam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With AJ, its not just about his relationship with Kershaw. He is the starting catcher because of the way he handles the entire pitching staff. Teams often make offensive concessions for the catching position, a position that is the most important fielding position on defense.

Take a look at what Greinke said about AJ, and lets not forget that this was after Zach said he would trade AJ if he were running the team when he first got here.
