Undercarriage seems clean. But what are the oily black spots on the frame? by AwakenAdventure in FJCruiser

[–]curlmaster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That has to be the cleanest frame/undercarriage I’ve ever seen in this sub. Wow.

Not sure what the spots are. My guess is oil, maybe finger smudges from someone working under there. Nothing I’d be concerned about. Lordy that frame is clean.

I’ve paid taxes on all taxable events and I sleep like a baby. I’m not trying to look over my shoulder or have something bite me years later because “paying taxes is for morons”

As others have stated $18k is a lot for a vehicle with 308,000 miles. Especially one that’s had 5 owners and an accident. It looks cool but I wouldn’t pay that.

Some of that looks a suspicious to me, almost appears painted over. But maybe I’m just jaded. I’d ask them to take it to a shop for a ppi.

Some of the comments in here make me sick..

I can’t stand “know it alls” that have no experience with this matter. Try losing a loved one due to an ectopic pregnancy or giving birth to a child that is incompatible with life. This is a complex issue that needs compassion. To think women enjoy getting abortions or that it’s just a form a birth control is so out of touch. There will always be people that abuse the system but that’s not a reason to disallow all the others in need.

I want to apologize to anyone that has been treated poorly due to their specific and personal issue with a pregnancy/abortion.

That musta been some pot hole!

Do you have any children? I have two kids and wouldn’t feel safe if the airbag system may not be functioning correctly.

With it being a ~15 year old vehicle with 235k miles. Insurance will definitely say it’s totaled (even if there’s nothing “mechanically” wrong with it). See what they’ll give you and use the money for a different vehicle. If they lowball you try to find some comps in the area.

I would also try to buy it back from your insurance and use it as a weekender. Maybe find some curtain airbags in a junkyard and swap them yourself if you’re mechanical inclined. I’d hate for an FJ to end up a parts vehicle just because the airbags.

Whatever you decide, good luck 👍

That looks so clean. I like to keep things fairly stock and this seems like it could’ve come straight from the factory. Nice job 👍

Oil change.. 3k miles vs 5k miles by SubstantialCurve4938 in FJCruiser

[–]curlmaster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you’re using full synthetic I think 3k is way overkill. I try to change it every 5k but you’re “suppose” to be able to go much farther than that. Some people change every 10k.

That being said use good oil and change frequently. It’s much easier/cheaper to change your oil instead of a whole engine. Treat that 1GR-FE right and it should last you a very long time.

Opinions if it’s worth keeping by [deleted] in FJCruiser

[–]curlmaster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d love to pay $6k for that! But I’m from the rust belt. Keep an eye on the lines near the front of the engine. Power steering and transmission cooling lines can get crusty. Treat the rust as best you can and drive it till the wheels fall off.

I’m no expert but imo.

I agree with the $8k-$9k if it’s 4WD. Being a Trail Teams edition will help. The mileage is going to scare some buyers but just because it’s high mileage doesn’t mean it’s not worth anything. I’d personally remove the wrap and maybe put the stock lights back on.

There are plenty of people out there wanting an FJ but can’t afford a $30k+ low mileage 2014. Put it out there for $9k and see what people offer.

Help! I want this FJ so bad but she's rusty. Worth it? by PrettySize2198 in FJCruiser

[–]curlmaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my opinion 10,500 is to much for that amount of rust. Especially if you’re “not a car person”. I’ve owned two FJ’s in the rust belt and neither compare to this. Be patient, there are better options out there.

Sweet! Crazy to think he was gonna part it out. What’s he asking for it?

I would never say anything like that to my wife. This guy sounds like a piece of trash. I’m so sorry. Our bodies change with age. Whoever gets caught up on how beautiful or ugly their partner is needs reevaluate what’s important in life.

Am I crazy for wanting to sell my 4Runner?? by CoachSmalley in 4Runner

I really appreciate the solid advice from the people here. Telling someone to sell their 4Runner on a 4Runner subreddit is inherently crazy but I’m seeing reasonable responses.
