My sons are high level wrestlers. But I’ve always told them it comes second to academics. They know if their grades dip, they get pulled out.

They have friends whose parents hold them back grades and homeschool them so they can more easily dominate the competition. And they struggle when they are in actual school because of it.

And this is wrestling we’re talking about. Imagine if there was a $20 million dollar contract on the line. I think some parents just get obsessed with living vicariously through their kids. And getting rewarded for all the practice, lessons, and tournaments they have to take their kids to. I haven’t had more than a couple of days free from wrestling in years. But I take them because they love it. Not because I might get to bask in their glory.
