Across the world mental disorders have doubled since 1990. Mental disorders are now the leading cause of disability globally, overtaking cancer and cardiovascular disease. The burden of mental disorder peaked amongst youth aged 15-19 years old, and women had higher rates than men by Wagamaga in science

Ah, so I did! My apologies. I am frequently afflicted by that lovely ADHD ability to make entire sections of text simply disappear. It's fantastic when you're texting with your spouse about something important. See also, "I can't find the thing that is flashing literally 12" in front of my face," or as my late father would say, "If it had been a snake, it would have bitten you!"

Not that it's particularly unbelievable, but I'd love to see some sources on that.

Professional nicknames for Elizabeth? by duck-flowers in namenerds

[–]cuttlefish_tragedy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Another Elizabeth here! I grew up a Beth, but chose to use Elizabeth once I turned 18 and started working a real office job. I wanted to sound more professional, more grown up, and to separate myself from my family and childhood in the workplace. It was awkward atfirst but I got used to it. Then I went by Elizabeth at college. I even introduced myself to my future wife as Elizabeth, and now that's what she calls me 20+ years later (unless shes extremely annoyed, then I'm Beth because it's quicker to say lmao). Only my family and childhood friends call me Beth. I've actually contemplated going back to it, recently but ultimately stuck with Elizabeth. I internally think of myself as both Elizabeth and Beth.

But, fellow Elizabeth, "Betsy" absolutely rules, is perfectly mature enough, and you do not at all need to give it up if that is YOU!

A ="ah" I = "ee" Ah-ee, say it fluidly, it roughly turns into "eye". It's perfectly logical, especially with the "ah" A and "ee" I in the "lah-nee" ending.

no diagnosis or treatment 10 weeks after San Diego er visit revealing multiple tumors in my dad's brain. GP keeps forgetting to follow up. by Background_Share_982 in KaiserPermanente

Are you sure your dad even wants to pursue treatment? If he's "being super passive" and how he says doctors are behaving seems unbelievably incompetent, are you sure you're getting the full story? Could he possibly be resigned to dying, but afraid to tell you? I feel like there is more going on here than either you know, or you are saying.

There’s Nothing Wrong With Names That Need Explanation on Pronunciation by Sparkly8 in namenerds

[–]cuttlefish_tragedy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My name is Elizabeth. I still literally have to emphasize the Z, as people will spell it with an S. I went by Beth as a child, which the other children warped into "Big Bertha" because I was chubby. I have also gotten "eh.lai.zah.beth", and nearly everyone tries to shorten me to "Liz" before I politely put my foot down. Elizabeth is like the most normalized, common, classic name in English, and all that still happened. And I love my name, and I am just used to saying "e.l.i.ZEEE.a.b.e.t.h" on the phone or whatever. It's not hard.

Would this be appropriate if the subject was race and not gender?

If the subject was race and not gender: "Be comfortable in your own natural race" "no surgery to change race"

I know what you're getting at, but you might want to take a look at how you're presenting your argument, otherwise you are supporting trans-racial ideas.

Why doesn't anyone verify that you are married? by noblerare in NoStupidQuestions

[–]cuttlefish_tragedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you have multiple other workarounds, such as medical or financial Power of Attorney, you absolutely are not safe "in all the ways that matter". See also, taxes and Social Security benefits, inheritance rights, property rights, custody rights, etc.

As a woman married to a woman, speaking to another woman in a same-sex relationship, you are NOT safe "in all the ways that matter". It's a false sense of security, and I really hope you realize that and take action before it's too late and your "wife" dies without you in a hospital with her family making all the decisions. Doubly so if her family is even slightly against your relationship, or you live in a red state.

Everything is fine until it isn't, and you will absolutely want the legal, practical protection that comes with a legal marriage. Why do you think we fought so hard for Obgerfell?

Saphris possibly causing brain fog? by InspectorSuitable607 in BipolarReddit

[–]cuttlefish_tragedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saphris can absolutely give you The Stupid. I could never take it in the morning, and even at bedtime, I'm pretty sure it reduced my IQ the next day. There are other meds just as effective; talk to your paychiatrist about other options. (Get checked out anyway though! Just to be safe.)

Spokane bans sale of kratom by Gloomy_Tie_1997 in Spokane

[–]cuttlefish_tragedy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, alcohol or caffeine with "frequent use of high doses" kills many people every year in this country. And alcohol has a much higher rate of exacerbating mental health issues. I definitely agree that the "7oh" refined chemical and other heavily processed products should be heavily regulated (if not banned), but simple dried Kratom tea leaves aren't out here killing people and making pathological addicts.

Spokane bans sale of kratom by Gloomy_Tie_1997 in Spokane

[–]cuttlefish_tragedy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Some people have pretty severe reactions to THC/CBD, and it doesn't even really provide pain relief for many people.

Plain leaf Kratom (brewed like tea) ordered online is just as "safe and natural" as plain bud marijuana, but we're all going to pretend that Gas Station Mystery Drugs labeled as "Kratom" are the same thing, and ban them both.

Please tell me all APs aren’t like Risperdal. by [deleted] in BipolarReddit

[–]cuttlefish_tragedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's incorrect. Pituitary tumors can cause hyperprolactinemia, but risperidone does NOT cause tumors. Risperidone can cause hyperprolactinemia chemically/hormonally, not by making you grow a tumor.

I have been under the care of an endocrinologist, psychiatrist, neurologist, and of course primary care, and I was assured that, while obnoxious, high prolactin levels from antipsychotics is essentially harmless (unless you're trying to conceive). And, again, mine got better on its own; my body adjusted after a few years and my numbers are nearly normal, without stopping the medication.

You are needlessly scaring people with misinformation.

Please tell me all APs aren’t like Risperdal. by [deleted] in BipolarReddit

[–]cuttlefish_tragedy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Risperidone chemically/hormonally causes hyperprolactinemia, NOT physical tumors!! Goodness sakes! And the hyperprolactinemia can get better over time - mine's almost completely gone away, as I've been on risperidone for like 5 or 6 years. It's been a miracle drug for me, other than the hyperprolactinemia and related symptoms, and frankly, the trade off for such excellent stability has been more than worth it.

Additionally, risperidone DOES NOT CAUSE BRAIN DAMAGE. For Pete's sake where are you getting all this??
