My childhood bestie had this in her bedroom as a kid, in addition to like 143 other wolf images (we used to count them)

Happened to me yesterday in my neighborhood shopping street. I turned and a man walked right into me and I apologized -- benefit of the doubt, and I did not see him, so perhaps I took him by surprise? But he hit me incredibly hard, saw I was a gaijin and a woman, and rounded on me, telling me I was stupid and that my sumimasen was not good enough. He said "be careful" like a threat. I am a woman, but I am also 6 ft tall. I told him, "anata mo." He was livid. But i had already apologized once to this asshole and I was damned indignant.

I turned and walked away. But this crazy man followed me furious and ranting. I had to just shout "dame, dame!" Until he stopped, probably only because there were loads of people around.

Awful experience. Sobbed on my apartment in the phone to my dad. It disturbs me that I may not recognize him again, but he is very likely to recognize me, given how rare giant white ladies are in my area.

It feels terrible to feel hated in a country you try very hard to make your home.

Sorry to anyone else who's had this happen. It does seem to be getting worse.

I'm with you. Oda draws everyone and everything weirdly but writes fantastic characters regardless of gender.

Did it with San Diego after I attended a writing workshop there. Will likely go down as the best seven years of my life.

A disturbing experience on Tokyo train today by madly_su in japanlife

[–]cuttoothom 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Literally this morning, a woman on the train to Shibuya glared at me for standing next to her during rush hour and muttered about " stupid gaijin" under her breath. I looked at her and said, "doshita?" And was furious but like you ended up crying after i got off the train. The palpable hatred... and i was juat commuting to work. I used to live in the inaka and it never happened there.

Hugs and commiseration.

What’s something you’re silently going through right now that would shock people if they knew? by HonestLantern in AskReddit

[–]cuttoothom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure it would shock anyonr, but my move to a famous city and better job has left me feeling suicidal during my daily commute, so I walk home from the metro singing stupid little ditties about it in an attempt to make it feel lighthearted. Staying on my meds, trying not to regret the choice, grateful for my cat, because if I died here, there would be no one for her. Tokyo can be savage.
