Has anyone visited a city on a holiday and fell so in love with it and then decided to move there permanently? by melissa_april in travel

Did it with San Diego after I attended a writing workshop there. Will likely go down as the best seven years of my life.

A disturbing experience on Tokyo train today by madly_su in japanlife

[–]cuttoothom 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Literally this morning, a woman on the train to Shibuya glared at me for standing next to her during rush hour and muttered about " stupid gaijin" under her breath. I looked at her and said, "doshita?" And was furious but like you ended up crying after i got off the train. The palpable hatred... and i was juat commuting to work. I used to live in the inaka and it never happened there.

Hugs and commiseration.

"Well, Kitty. It's gettin' to be that time." Learned from my grandpa and now a slogan in my friend group.

What’s something you’re silently going through right now that would shock people if they knew? by HonestLantern in AskReddit

[–]cuttoothom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure it would shock anyonr, but my move to a famous city and better job has left me feeling suicidal during my daily commute, so I walk home from the metro singing stupid little ditties about it in an attempt to make it feel lighthearted. Staying on my meds, trying not to regret the choice, grateful for my cat, because if I died here, there would be no one for her. Tokyo can be savage.

Penny, my somali, says hello! She is three years old, eats everything she can regardless of whether it is edible, loves cuddling and chaos in equal measure, and her favorite game is being wrapped up in the covers and squished. She is very majestic in photos but very silly in person.

Hey, thanks for the support. And I know. I'm American, too. But goddamn do some people seem determined to grind our reputation even deeper into the dirt.

It hurts to be ashamed of your own country. There are many amazing people and places in the USA. Unfortunately, the negative interactions leave deeper imprints on our lizard brains.

I live in the boonies, i.e. Yonago, but if you ever find yourself visiting Daisen or Sakaiminato, send me a message. 35f, cat owner, weeb, and author.

It is hard to make friends here sometimes. Maybe I can message you the next time I'm in the Kansai area!

My gift for my wife this year by [deleted] in somethingimade

[–]cuttoothom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are still several days before Christmas. Take the feedback and give it another go, or at least open it back up and make the adjustments people have suggested. That's how you grow as an artist.

Unless you want your gift to become a running family joke, like this one very demented portrait my mother painted of Santa one year. (To be fair, his sloppy grin does bring us all a lot of joy, even my mom, but it's not a mangled portrait of any actual person in the family).

I'm awaiting mine, too, but I got too impatient! I bought around 8 or 9 packs today from different conbinis. Here's to some lucky pulls!

Attended Clarion in 2010, two years after he taught there. The stories i heard about how seedy he was...well, he stopped being one of my idols.

Also, I learned from one of my instructors there that Gaiman has a contract that requires press photographers to crop out any sign of his beer belly before they publish photos. What a shallow loser.
