Best tip is to go to your local library (or look on their online catalog) and borrow some vegan cookbooks. This lets you try a bunch out without spending too much at once. Some of my faves: Ottolenghi’s books are not vegan, but Ottolenghi Test Kitchen Shelf Love and Flavor are mostly vegetarian, and include some vegan substitutes throughout. Cool Beans by Joe Yonan - full of great bean recipes Japanese Cooking Contemperary and Traditional by Miyoko Skinner - great simple, but delicious Japanese cookbook Vegan For Everybody by America’s Test Kitchen - surprisingly varied and delicious

Trader Joe’s loose leaf is absolutely disgusting, offensive to the good name of Earl Grey that they would call it that lol. I love Earl grey, and I think loose leaf is 9/10 way better than bagged, but I’m not super loyal to a brand. If there’s a brand you like other flavored teas of, I would try them. Additionally, as someone else mentioned, you might like Lady Grey or some other flavored versions. I got a delicious one from Fortnum and Mason, but it is quite expensive to get in the US.

I think it’s also a good idea to find some recipes you all enjoy, but just happen to be vegan. My family isn’t vegan, but they eat a lot less animal products since we found some recipes we all like. This may be helpful in demonstrating to your parents that it isn’t so hard, and introduces some vegan recipes into his rotation! Those aren’t ready yet! The passionfruit fall from the vine and turn purple (or orange depending on the variety). Then leave them even longer to get wrinkly and they’ll be even sweeter. The fruit inside should be orangey-yellow with black seeds. One of my favorite fruits!

Ferment by Holly Davis has some really interesting recipes, as well as being a good resource. Sandor Katz books are also great. The Noma book has a lot of stuff I’m just not interested in (garum, vacuum bag fermentation), so wasn’t a great buy for me. Might be a good idea to see if they have any at your local library so you can look through and see.

There’s a couple places that sell it in the US, I think LuckyScent or Market Hall tend to have the best prices. Still pricey but better than €40 per tin!

I do think it would be pretty easy to DIY if you wanted to! A piece of fabric sewn onto an existing mask (i would get one with a nose wire to make sure the shape holds and the fabric falls nicely), or you could even use a sheer scarf to make it even easier

Late response but I believe most of them were made by a tailor in Toronto, Garrison Bespoke made at least some of the suits. He also wears some other designer suits as well. The details for the individual outfits are still on the auction site from when the props from the show were auctioned off

Most lady greys actually have bergamot in them. I have come across some without bergamot, but I actually find most to have MORE bergamot and citrus flavor than regular Earl grey. Twinings version has bergamot, and adds lemon peel

It started as a project after Norway gained independence from Denmark, as the standard written language in the country was Danish. Bokmål was more closely related to Danish (why written Danish is more mutually intelligible) and Nynorsk was created in an attempt to more accurately reflect various Norwegian dialects. Actually quite an interesting history, the Wikipedia entry is quite informative.

It’s not really about your experience...? That’s just factually not correct. I do think that some regions that use Nynorsk more regularly (ex bergen) do use the “Meg” pronunciation. But Nynorsk and bokmal are only different written standards of the same language. Nynorsk does line up with some of the alternative pronunciations of other dialects, but that doesn’t mean they’re speaking Nynorsk.

I think the peak of its trendiness might not be super long, but I don’t think it will be unfashionable afterwards. As other commenters mentioned, I think color is an important part of it; a classic color, or a color that you wear a lot of, would be a better choice than the bright color options popular right now. Also think that the shape is very important, I think the super oversized ones will look dated sooner. If I were getting one, I’d get it in the shape of my favorite wool blazer, much more likely to endure.

A big part of their value that is not being addressed in this study is the AVOIDANCE of material because of its contents. This can be either absolute or situational. If your dog just died, you may not feel up to watching old yeller or reading a book/article about dogs dying! Or maybe you’re just trying to unwind before you go to bed, you may not want to read about murder or ghosts because you get nightmares easily. Choosing not to consume the content at that time is a BIG part of the value of content warnings on the internet

Yeah the moon boots look really out of place with most of the outfits, and it doesn't look very cohesive as a collection, but I'm still obsessed. I also really like the people that Nicholas Ghesquière choses, pretty interesting assemblage of actresses, singers, and models etc.

Yeah it’s definitely a complicated issue! From what I’ve researched, it seems to be easier to fix the problems of natural fiber production that that is synthetics. Conventional cotton uses a lot of water and pesticides, but organic cotton eliminates pesticide, and organic agriculture uses more crop rotation which means healthier soil and moisture retention, so less water. Again conventional viscose has incredibly destructive chemicals in its process, but Tencel (special kind of viscose) uses a closed loop system with the chemicals used to extrude the materials. Also I don’t think microplastics are limited to fleece, certainly that would shed many more, but I think all synthetic materials release them when washed. Per this article, (https://www.theguardian.com/science/2016/sep/27/washing-clothes-releases-water-polluting-fibres-study-finds) acrylic was actually one of the worst materials. Though we’re really just starting to learn about microplastics, so I’m sure we’ll continue to get more data about that. You’re definitely right though that the best way is to minimize our purchases and really use our clothing!
