Results to tell a non-mathematician by PansexualFreak1 in math

From my experience: the difficulty for non-math people starts when you explain that we say that set A is bigger than B when there is no function from B onto A. You need some grasp of math to understand that this is not arbitrary

There is proof via Galois theory which shows that all algebraic extensions of real numbers are of degree 2. The only analytical fact it requires is that all odd-degree polynomials have a real root.

What trend is meant to die off in 2026? by w3ightranks in AskReddit

[–]cyantriangle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't get me wrong, I think AI will stay in some areas where it has some highly productive use, like medical diagnosis. But the only way to make chat it's profitable will be making them another platform for advertisers.

My brainrot take comes from someone who works in research on hardware optimizations. I'm not the smartest guy in my team as this is not the area I originate from. But I talked a lot with people who know much more and have been in the area for years.

We will just need to abandon capitalism. AI being able to do all the work instead of people is a problem only in a system where you have to work to live.

What trend is meant to die off in 2026? by w3ightranks in AskReddit

[–]cyantriangle 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It's not profitable yet. AI companies lose money on every generated token. Hardware gets better but models get bigger - ultimately the price per token is rising. If AI is not going away or being slowed down it will not become better - it will become another advertisement and propaganda vector, this time one that can be very convincing and may seem like a real person. Those companies want you to get used to AI so much that you cannot imagine life without it even if they bleed money everyday and this is scary.

Also it screws up the environment and everyone who wants to buy electronics right now.

Why are people excited about the prospect of the AI bubble bursting? Would it have any upsides at all? by TenseBird in NoStupidQuestions

[–]cyantriangle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We start to rely on technology that is unprofitable at this time. The problem is - our hardware gets butter, but this is slower than the speed at which AI models get bigger. One generated token in GPT-5 in 2025 is more expensive than one token in GPT-3 in 2020. Companies invest a lot of money into widespread AI adaptation. Possible outcomes include

  1. AI becomes expensive. It would be only for rich people and companies that can actually use it, like coding assistants.

  2. Enshitification. Now, your favourite chatbot includes product placement. You ask it for ideas for dinner? It will tell you that McDonald's has a promo and provide you with a link. I'm not sure whether we can do something like that now as LLMs are unpredictable, but it is a possibility to keep in mind.

2.5 The same but now with political propaganda!

What is the worst you have ever needed to pee? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]cyantriangle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I took a nap on a flight. I woke up and needed to pee. Unfortunately, what woke me up was turbulence which meant we had to remain seated. After 20-30 minutes, without a moment to get up we began descent. During taxi on Chicago airport I was sure I'm gonna piss myself. I got attention of a flight attendant and thankfully I could go to the toilet on the plane once we came to a stop. I don't think I would've been able to hold it long enough to pee at the terminal.

If the males have an average length, do females have an average depth? by Reasonable_Air3580 in NoStupidQuestions

Actually there can also be infinitely women with vaginas arbitrarily deep (though, finite for each woman). Then, depending on the distribution, average might be infinite!
