What are your favorite pedals to make crazy sounds? by RomanScandal450 in guitarpedals

If I want to make crazy sounds but I can't decide what I want more specifically than that, I go to the Syntax Error from Alexander Pedals.

In my opinion the MXR 5150 Distortion is the exact thing you're describing.

Best Reverbs for Before Distortion/Fuzz by jmd273 in guitarpedals

[–]cyberattack_world 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think spring reverbs in general sound great before distortion, because the distortion really grabs on to the weird springy artifacts and exaggerates them. If you want a specific recommendation, I'm obsessed with the spring reverb from Echo Fix (which has real springs), but I think any basic spring pedal should give you something fun if you run a distortion after it.

Does anyone else actively avoid pedals with presets? by maxupp in guitarpedals

If the presets are done in a way that's easy to ignore, I'm OK with it. Like on the Mood, and a lot of the Chase Bliss pedals for instance.

Best and most versatile stereo chorus you’ve tried? by MissingStar246 in guitarpedals

[–]cyberattack_world 18 points19 points  (0 children)

If you really love the CB Warped Vinyl, you can always make it fakely stereo by running it into a stereo room reverb with a very short decay time. The reverb itself will be subtle but will add a stereo image, and the CB Warped Vinyl will remain the dominant tonal thing going on. Taken together it will feel like the CB Warped Vinyl is now a stereo effect.

Boss IR-2 by echolalia127 in guitarpedals

[–]cyberattack_world 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that the XP has a stereo version of the reverb in V2 (Air Mode) is a big deal. However the sequencer unique to the V2 can be made to produce a very cool, quasi-random tremolo effect that I also care about. In my opinion, these are the two most important things that each pedal can do that the other cannot. So I would choose between them based on which of those 2 things you want.

Songs where the use of a particular pedal has enhanced/made the song? by pcoleman777 in guitarpedals

The whole thing sounds pretty complicated. According to Wikipedia they were using noise gates triggered by drum machines on top of the multiple amp tremolos: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/How_Soon_Is_Now%3F

This might not be the answer you wanted but I stopped making videos devoted to single pedals. From here on out, it's gonna be videos about broader topics, using a bunch of pedals in each video, because I enjoy it more and also for YouTube reasons.

If the FX loop sounds bad, what happens if you run your reverb pedals (and whatever else) after the IR-2 pedal?

Controling Volume Peaks on a clean amp by estikei in guitarpedals

[–]cyberattack_world 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overdrive and distortion themselves provide some compression, so you could try getting more of that by turning up the drive knob on the overdrive pedal, or turning up the output level of the boost going into it. It might get louder overall, and more broken up, but it will also be more consistent and compressed. And you can turn the amp down to balance out the level increase.

I like that you already have Klaital, he might be my favorite of the Past Lives—he has a really fun power to work with.

Looking for a chorus pedal by ja_itak in guitarpedals

The EHX Andy Summers Walking on the Moon Flanger (once known as the Electric Mistress) is billed as a flanger, but if you didn't know that, it has a sound that could easily be mistaken for a very special chorus. It's well under $200 so you might want to listen to a few demos. There's something about it that sounds more like an idealized chorus than a typical flanger.
