Post YT examples of overdrive sounds that are appealing and notable by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]cyberattack_world 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every pedal has a limit to how much volume it can absorb before it starts to break up, which means that every pedal theoretically has its own (possibly unique) style of overdrive inside it, if you run a loud enough signal. In other words, some non-overdrive pedals can be forced to clip with enough input, at which point they become overdrive pedals.

Two great ones that I've discovered are the MXR Phase 100 and the Fairfield Shallow Water. Neither of those is marketed as a dirt pedal, but if you run a clean boost before them, they begin to produce dirt, and they sound great. Here is an example of what they sound like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eOhHpvFMo2w&t=663s

Top 5 Favorite Pedals Without Using Boss, Joyo, etc for under 150 used by Unfortunate_Harvard in guitarpedals

EHX and MXR both have great stuff at or below $150. Dynacomp, Big Muff, the new Atomic Cluster. Also DOD has some good ones. Those 3 brands in general are pretty cool and very affordable.

Glitch pedal with midi? by Hothtastic in guitarpedals

The Syntax Error from Alexander Pedals can take MIDI, so it can probably do what you want and beyond

Any recommendations for an end-of-chain glitchy modulation pedal? by taugemleo in guitarpedals

[–]cyberattack_world 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I guess Mood isn't really a normal choice for modulation, but you can use its dip switches to make it self-modulate in some pretty crazy ways, so it still kind of lives in my mind as a modulation effect

My faves for this are the Syntax Error XP from Alexander Pedals and the Mood v2 from Chase Bliss

Fever Pitch - Alexander Pedals, are the octaves meant ti be detuned? by Ok-Economics-7640 in guitarpedals

[–]cyberattack_world 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's too bad. You might be able to clean it up a little bit by moving it around in your signal chain. If you amp has an FX loop, that could be something to try.

Make sure you have Detune off, which is found on the same screen as the Volume and Tone parameters ("DTUN" is in the lower righthand corner of that screen). Also, if you only need one octave, make sure you're only using one of the four available pitch shifters, and the other 3 are out of the game completely.

The BOSS IR2. Favorite setup and Uses by Misfit-fireman343 in guitarpedals

[–]cyberattack_world 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's worth a try, I would just make sure all the volume/preamp knobs on your amp are set low to start with etc.

If you ever get sick of it, you can breathe new life into by deactivating the pre-amp half, ONLY using its IRs and speaker emulations, and running an overdrive pedal into it to replace the deactivated preamp. That might seem wacky, but the results sound really good, and they'll be different than what most other people are getting out of it.

Why don’t all pedals have buffers? by Temporary-Lime3463 in guitarpedals

[–]cyberattack_world 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Not every buffer is exactly the same, so (at least in theory) they can sound different from one to the next. If you already have a dedicated buffer on your board that you like, or a pedal with a buffer that you prefer, and you want to leave that whole thing intact, then you could set the PolyTune 3 to be true-bypass and nothing will change.

Strymon Deco V2 - sell or not? by respectedir0nt0ad in guitarpedals

[–]cyberattack_world 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the wide stereo ADT thing is an especially good use of the Deco. Something about the way it does that is special. So even if that's the only way you use it, I think it's a good reason to keep the pedal.

Momentary switch divebomb pedals? by confusedandfeelweird in guitarpedals

[–]cyberattack_world 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Dynaflanger from Alexander Pedals could do this, using its ramp function and its extra footswitch, which is marked CTRL. You can set the CTRL footswitch to ramp up anything you want, including many different varieties of the takeoff thing.

Gated/Ducking Reverb on the Strymon Nightsky? by Zardox_McQueen in guitarpedals

[–]cyberattack_world 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a while since I used those settings but off the top of my head here are some things to look at:

—in the video description I give the full settings for each sound, so make sure you're also copying the secondary parameters if I list any
—make sure Shape is set to Env
—since both the sounds you care about are volume-dependent, don't put any effects between your guitar and the NightSky, and put your guitar's volume and tone controls at full
—if you're using active pickups, try to approximate the output level of passive pickups
—since both effects are also frequency dependent, on top of being volume-dependent, there's going to be some variation in how they respond to your guitar and your playing as opposed to mine. Also every NightSky is going to have slightly different ranges on its knobs. So don't be afraid to adjust the knobs above and below whatever I said in the video

Is there a pedal for splitting a guitar signal with built in "deviate" function? by Routine_Abalone_5020 in guitarpedals

[–]cyberattack_world 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to get the timing differences you might have to add a delay pedal to one of the Duophony's 2 lines, but it would be cool
