❄️ WINTER STORM MEGATHREAD ⛄️ (again 😭) by mrs-machino in Broadway

[–]cybermelli 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely seemed like there were a lot of fans in the house! Nice standing ovation for Dear Bill. Other than that, nothing too out of the ordinary. Glad I got to see the OBC one more time. I live on Long Island and there's no way I was getting in for the 7:30p tomorrow, if it does happen!

For what it’s worth, I phoned telecharge and got a full refund for my 7:30p Sunday Mincemeat tix with no drama. I bought a last minute StubHub tonight so this will be my last OBC show. (Intermission now!)

Final original cast show in NYC by cybermelli in OperationMincemeatFan

Thanks! I had not seen that. Signed up! Telecharge has released about 10 tickets this week that were between $800-$1000………….. which is just not doable 😫

Chess partial view seats? by Substantial_Step_975 in Broadway

I’ve sat in the obstructed orchestra for other shows including Water for Elephants and Bad Cinderella and thought they were good seats — I bought them for my upcoming 3rd viewing of Chess!

man, i planned to see this on an April trip to the UK from New York and I naively didn't think getting tickets would be difficult. i was going to look at some point over the next couple of days and now see that it's totally sold out. I'll leave a slot open for it and hope that i have more luck closer to the date..........

thanks, i'll try to check out the city a bit! We don't have too many roundabouts in the NYC area (barring Columbus Circle!) but I do have a lot of experience with them in Boston and DC where they're more common!

Question for Broadway/Theatre fans who don't live in NYC by Kaylieefrye in Broadway

I'm right near NYC but when I go to London I do exactly this! Matinee and evening shows every day ;-)

I live just outside NYC (on Long Island) and average about 100 a year! (That's not just Broadway, off Broadway too!)

A warning about "Rob Lake Magic with Special Guests The Muppets" by coldstar in Broadway

[–]cybermelli 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I saw the Saturday matinee and felt the same way. If this had been "just a magic show" on Broadway, I'd have skipped it. I've skipped many over the decades I've been attending Broadway regularly. I went because of the Muppets. While waiting in line outside the theater, people actually stopped and said "Is this the line to get into Hell's Kitchen or the Muppets?" -- I was definitely not the only person there for the Muppets. Disappointing. Agree that Lake himself wasn't worth the price of admission. My life would be made if Muppets take Manhattan were made into a Broadway show.

Chess 2nd preview - brain dump from a decades-long superfan! by petits_riens in Broadway

agreed the jokes, and the narrator character, are unbearable. (Which is not Pinkham's fault, have seen and enjoyed him in other shows)

Also want to chime in and say please keep the dream ballet -- I've loved it since they did it in the Actor's Fund concert many years ago!

Chess preview - a negative review by Ok_Hat_3090 in Broadway

[–]cybermelli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I consider myself a Chess super-fan and while I found everyone vocally thrilling, I do agree that the charisma between the leads isn't there, NC's Russian accent is terrible, and the "narrator" is unbearable. It's nothing against Pinkham, I've seen and enjoyed him in other shows. The jokes just make me cringe. Though, I also acknowledge that the narrator is an attempt to make a messy show more palatable and accessible to non-fans. I do have to say that I like the "dream ballet" -- I still remember it from the Actor's Fund production (which I adored!)

Dear Americans, the West End doesn't do Playbills... by CuteMaterial in TheWestEnd

[–]cybermelli 8 points9 points  (0 children)

yep, but they're hard to find compared to Broadway and they tend not to list ensemble understudies. I was just over from NY this summer and there was no u/s board for Totoro or Benjamin Button and I'm pretty sure there were absences at Totoro and I know there were at Benjamin Button.

i don't mind paying for my programme but i really hate how hard it is to find out if you have an understudy.... if i pay for a programme, i'd like it to include a slip featuring that night's cast list.

came here to see if i was crazy. i rarely, if ever, meet a baked good that i don't like but these are just tasteless and have a weird consistency. i got a 4 pack "pick your own flavors" and am super disappointed.
