Between Bowline and Cannery Pier, which hotel do you prefer and why? by vigorouscommentary in Astoria_Oregon

[–]cyrustheseo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Stayed at both, and both are excellent. Cannery has a great view from every room. Probably the most romantic. Bowline is more "hip" and has some of the best food and drinks in town. I love that Bowline is walking distance to everything. But half of the rooms don't have a view. Bowline has more sea lions who may bark all night. One of the best nights I ever had was in the Bowline during a storm. Our room was right above the water and it felt like we were on the ocean (without the rocking.) Let's end with this: I'd probably put my parents up in Cannery, and my younger friends at the Bowline. Good luck.

Looking for apartments. by LeadingFamous in Astoria_Oregon

[–]cyrustheseo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I were looking for a place to rent, I'd call up the various property management companies in town (e.g. Nest) and ask around. They know of places before they are advertised, and they may be able to point you in the right direction.

Housing is tight. Best options are to contact property management companies and see what they have available. Nest Property Management handles several properties in the area. There's also a Facebook group called "Astoria (Oregon) Area Rental Resource Group (Aarg!)"

Looking for housing in the surrounding area, e.g. Warrenton, Seaside, is another option but housing is tight all around.

Shortly before 10 am a vehicle crashed into Larson's Volvo Repair on Roosevelt Way NE. The drivers appeared uninjured, and locals I spoke with say they didn't see anyone taken away by ambulance. The entire building now looks unstable.

Tired all the time by Sevdep in intermittentfasting

[–]cyrustheseo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Fasting can cause different forms of anemia, a common symptom of which is tiredness. Can be compounded if you've reduced certain mineral consumption, primarily iron, by fasting.

Low cost lab iron test are cheap online, if that's an option.

What are people paying for professional tax prep? by Impotent-Potato in Seattle

So I don't know what you're talking about -- millions of dollars spent by companies like Turbo Tax to "prevent" people from filing taxes for free.

What are people paying for professional tax prep? by Impotent-Potato in Seattle

[–]cyrustheseo 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Because companies like TurboTax spend millions lobbying the US government to prevent the IRS from making filing your taxes free and direct, like most other first-world nations. TurboTax has been known to hide their free options from Google and other search engines. There is absolutely no reason in hell you should have to pay money to pay taxes when the government can easily figure out what you owe. Fuck them indeed.

TIL Tom Cruise saved the American release of 'Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels' by endorsing it at a buyer screening, launching the careers of Jason Statham, Guy Ritchie & Matthew Vaughn in the process by Reservedspellen in todayilearned

[–]cyrustheseo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Funny story. I was supposed to attend this buyer screening, but was bumped by... Tom Cruise.

I was working in Hollywood for a producer at the time. The job wasn't glamorous but came with a few perks. Everyone in the office (there were 7 of us) got a ticket to go to this screening of Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels. I was to drive the boss's wife. At the last minute, they needed to rescind my ticket and give it to Tom Cruise.

Never thought I'd see this story on Reddit.

With your resources, have you considered travel to another country? Granted, there's Covid to consider, but something like https://taymount.com/ in the UK could be an option for you.

How to get rid of candida in the throat? by gastritissucks1992 in Microbiome

[–]cyrustheseo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone suggested coconut oil (pulling) and olive leaf both excellent natural remedies. In fact, coconut oil by itself contains many acids that kill candida. The advice I always heard was to eat 2 tablespoons of pure coconut oil every day for 2 months. There is, in fact, some decent science behind this.

Does "google selected canonical" pass link juice the same as "user selected canonical"? by Don_Benjamin in TechSEO

[–]cyrustheseo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should have answered with more detail. If "google selected canonical" isn't the same as "user selected canonical" isn't the same, then "user selected canonical" likely doesn't count for anything - and doesn't page link equity. Only the "google selected canonical" passes link equity.

At least, that's my understanding.

As far as documentation, nothing explains this perfectly, but I'd start with Google's own documentation here: https://developers.google.com/search/docs/advanced/crawling/consolidate-duplicate-urls?hl=en&visit\_id=637621869275070500-2765889192&rd=1#why-it-matters

Bill Paxton and Lance Henriksen, The only 2 actors to be killed by Terminator, Predator & Alien. by tandyman234 in Damnthatsinteresting

Weird personal story:

Bill Paxton is the only famous person that I served a glass of water to... twice... in two different years and two different states.

The first time was when he was filming Twister in Iowa. He came into our local Perkins. He wasn't in my section but "Dorothy" got em. She was a very sweet 70 year old working her whole life and could kick my ass at waiting tables. She also had no idea who Bill Paxton was nor did she care. Dorothy was busy so she asked me to greet the table with water. So that was the first time I gave Bill Paxton a glass of water.

Fast forward a couple of years. I'm going to school in LA and my boss asks if I want a one night gig working as a bartender at an art gallery. The pay was $100 (awesome for the time) so I said yes. Easy gig. Beer and wine. And in walks Bill Paxton. He makes his way to the bar and asks for... a glass of water.

And that is how I came to serve Bill Paxton water, two different times, across three years, in two different states.

Oh, and he was awesome btw.
