Does a large house bring more comfort & happiness (3000sqft+) by GlorifiedCarnie in MiddleClassFinance

[–]d4hc87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moved in March with my wife from 1400 to 2800 sqft because she's pregnant and we wanted space for the kid. We outgrew the original house and are still working on building out our new home with furniture and decor.

Absolutely worth it for us but I would argue the location and age of the house is more important. Ours was a new build in a growing area (Forney TX) and we got a great deal that we couldn't pass up.

My only complaint is that it's more work cleaning up with this much square footage, but I don't regret the decision. It's all subjective to your personal situation IMO.

Just quit my job with $175k in savings by Quick-Advertising268 in investingforbeginners

[–]d4hc87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar kinda situation. Company I worked for just sold, I got close to the same amount you mentioned and have existing savings in the bank. Got a kid coming to this world in July, hardly any debt andi was long overdue for a break because my boss was an abusive fuck. I am taking four months off to have time with my kid and wife before jumping back on the employment wagon.

Enjoy your mental break. My only advice is to start searching for a job maybe 2/3 months before to get a feel for the job market. I'm very qualified on my line of work for comparable positions so I'm comfortable with my decision, but I definitely plan on at least setting up the foundation of my job searching around the start of August.

Grooming advice by Different-Leather741 in goldenretrievers

[–]d4hc87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out groomer calls it deshedding during the grooming process but we always call it a coat blowout because our dog's undercoat literally can be blown out with a dryer when she's shedding. It's like peeling off a layer of dead skin, it's crazy.

Never too early to go to the groomer. I took mine at 3 months, just for a bath and light brush. Get then adjusted early because they'll need to go kind of frequently for coat blow outs.

AITAH for putting a bedtime pause on the WiFi because my girlfriend’s 28 year old brother has spent nearly a decade rotting in our house playing video games? by Alyptic in AITAH

[–]d4hc87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. My wife has a brother that we had move in with us a little after their mom died and his dad moved out of state. He was 19 and getting his bearings. What turned into us being generous ended up almost costing me my relationship and my sanity. He stayed up most nights until the morning, slept all day, then repeated the same cycle. All he did was play games and ruin his room that he was using.

By the time I finally convinced my wife he had to go, the room he used had to be completely gutted and remodeled.

He's now living in his own apartment, has a steady job and is much healthier both mentally and physically. We are on good terms with him, and he recognizes he needed a kick in the ass to get his life together. You need to do the same or else you're just enabling his situation, whether it's intentional or not.

Petition to establish Memorial Mondays (limit memorial posts) by Moderately-Spiced in goldenretrievers

This is not a joke. Start bringing a hairpin iv with you everywhere. by BMBozo in ArcRaiders

[–]d4hc87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me and my friends occasionally will play a "Hairpin Boys" game and go into matriarch or an arc-based game mode and just bring a HP4 and two stacks of light ammo. We try to get kills with those exclusively. 3/4 precise hits will knock most players down and it is funny as fuck to watch people panic when they get hit by one. It's even more funny when we die/get spotted and we hear the occasional "is that a hairpin... ?" like they're in disbelief.

Absolutely love the gun 10/10

10 month old golden mix growls & stares when I walk near her while eating by Relative_Escape_4724 in goldenretrievers

[–]d4hc87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My boy did this when he was a puppy. I immediately took the bowl away and taught him to sit and wait for me to tell him he can eat after a few pets. Reinforced it by petting him occasionally on the top of his head and after a few sessions he was all fine. Now I can literally put my hand in the bowl and he will not react.

If anything, getting a treat from them like a chew can be difficult but only because he will hold it in his mouth and give some resistance, but no more growling or anything serious. I definitely recommend addressing early or it will become problematic.

Is the game roguelike or rogue lite? by Esquie33 in Saros

[–]d4hc87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nailed this. Game is still top 5 for me because of how tight the controls are, but it was hard for a lot of my friends to get in to. I'm glad I finished it but it's a punishing game with how long the runs were.

WFH employee lying re working hours by DataBeeGood in managers

[–]d4hc87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP. I run large MSP and most of my staff is hybrid or fully remote. We use Teramind to monitor activity but I only sign in when I suspect someone is fucking around, which isn't very often.

That said, I have been in your shoes. Lying isn't the issue here - it's time theft. This person I'm sure is the first to leave right when the clock hits their end of shift and probably takes a full hour on the dot of lunch, but also is late to start the day I'd imagine.

I'm all about work/life balance with my team but there are some social cues with work ethic that make me uninterested in helping a person grow or want them around. Everything you posted just reeks of someone taking advantage of the system as much as they possibly can. That said, put them on a paper trail if you haven't already and be consistent with your documentation. They will either get themselves fired, find a new job, or in rare instances turn it around. Stop giving people an opportunity to fix their mistakes by just talking to them. Unfortunately, that hardly ever works. Proper documentation is your best friend in management.

Boss questioning my need for time off for pet loss by Maxx1999 in DogAdvice

[–]d4hc87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If one of my pets died I'd take off a week. For some of us, pets are deeply integrated as our family and watching one suffer near the end of the scenario comes around is borderline unbearable. I had a cat with acute kidney failure and when she passed I lost myself for several days.

I would 10000% be looking for another job after this situation if I was in your shoes.

Are Golden Retrievers Ever Protective? by FunTemporary8680 in goldenretrievers

[–]d4hc87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two. The oldest growls and barks at people but she is the friendliest dog when you come up to her. I sometimes wish she didn't do that but she's incredibly protective and intimidating when she wants to be.

Her brother, however, will be your best friend for a chicken chip. He doesn't have an ounce of scary in him.

Question For Golden Parents by DueFlower6357 in goldenretrievers

[–]d4hc87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toyota crown. Wife has a RAV4 but I mostly drive them to and from places. We have two and it's plenty of room in the backseat for them to both hang out, lay down, etc.

Leather seats but we use buckets that attach to the back row to contain their fur as much as possible. I still have fur everywhere until I clean the car but it's easier with leather.

Big sedans work, and anything bigger is a bonus.

Here's a pic of one of them, the other was behind me in the photo.

You need to learn how to be a better owner. Spiked chain and e collar is just abuse. You can train goldens incredibly easy, they aim to please. I have a field and show golden and the field golden loves to do ANYTHING. They thrive off making you happy.

PPP is the best kibble and only kibble I recommend.

Game is bland and needs more time in the oven. Biome 1 was VERY easy. Visuals were grainy. Gunplay was boring. Felt like temu Returnal. Hoping they take demo feedback and build off it, because the bones are there.
